CTD ladder to Pripyat

Hey guys, I know this was probably covered at some point but I looked through every page here and couldn't find a tangible solution to the problem. As the thread title says, I get a repeatable CTD every time I go up the ladder into pripyat. This happened with a clean install of the U.S. version of the game, no mods installed. I then uninstalled and reinstalled, played the game all the way through again and still happened on the ladder. Then I tried installing the Complete mod with the same result, so I'm at a loss here on how to get past this point. Game plays great up until this ctd. I'm on XP using a HD6950 on 11.9 drivers and a dual core mobo.

I've since uninstalled the game so I cant post any info on error logs, but if needed, I'll reinstall the game again and play through to the point where this happens, it might take a day or so to get there again but I can do so if requested.

I also want to add that this is not a cracked version of the game, I bought a 4-in-one pack with this game, and for the longewst time I couldn't find this game anywhere around here so I was suprized to find it. I made a couple of photos holding the package so no one assumes it is cracked. I buy my games fair and square.

SO should I pull the settings down to minimum? I tried it al lthe way down but with the same result, maybe there's a specific setting in the options or an .ini file I can edit to get past this part?

What else are you using pc wise? A 6950 is a good card isn't it? What else have you got?
You say xp is it 32 bit, if so there is a 3gb switch you should use which allows your os to use more than it's 32 bit maximum.
You do not need to use the game part because Stalker is already large address aware, you need to use the other part for the operating system, of course I am saying all this presuming you are using 32 bit. If not then ignore me. It's only a possibility anyway. good luck.

I get similar CTDs quite often nowadays. But it is only a relatively recent phenomenon. There is only really one thing that I've changed that is probably to blame: my hard drive died a while back, and I only ever used static lighting in games when it was still alive. Since the new one was fitted and the game reinstalled I have used only dynamic lighting.

If you're using dynamic lighting and getting 'out of memory' CTDs you could do worse than switching to static lighting to see if it makes a difference.

Other than that there are two possible other in-game options:

In the Underpass, after the fight and such in the largest chamber, you go on through the door you had to power up to use, along an acid-anomoly-infested corridor and up a stairway. Unlocking the door at the top lets you into a corridor with a couple of zombifieds at the other end. After dropping them you enter another tunnel. To your left is the way to the ladder - to your right is a small drain that may or may not have a couple of tushkanos in it. Above that is a tunnel on a level you can't reach where a snork leaps from. Up there is an unmarked level-changer that will deposit you in Pripyat.

Behind Yanov station are two buildings (not counting Zulu's tower). One of them has windows, the other doesn't. On the roof of the windowless one is an unmarked level-changer - the end of the roof nearest the building with windows moves you to Zaton. The other end takes you to Pripyat. If you gather your squad for the 'Leader' achievement, leave them in Zulu's tower, then use the Pripyat end of the level-changer you'll end up in Pripyat with your team intact.

All you need to use either of those possibilities is to raise your jump_speed in actor.ltx to about .10 for the Underpass changer or .16 for the Yanov roof changer.

I'd try static lighting first though.

Excellent, the static lighting switch worked, I'm now in Pripyat. I could have sworn I tried this before and it wasn't working but it worked just now, so thanks man! I appreciate it.

Personally I have used that particular one is in SGM and SMRTER, I have tried it on other occasion's and it has not been working, But I can't say if I tried it in Vanilla or not. I just remember there have been playthrough's when that changer has not been active.

SPOILER SGM,
If I turn left in the underpass and kill all the zombies but do not go through the final archway to the ladder, instead of going through I go back and use the changer Steely mentions that brings you out in the colonel's office. I then play on like normal and before returning to Zaton save Zulu as normal. When I next enter the underpass Zulu and co are down there, or at least there doubles are because I left them back in Pripyat, meaning I get to kill them all and get Zulu's stash info and gun. Which means that on top of the other gun trick you can end up with 3 of Zulu's machine gun (I stash one in each area) and because they are alive in Pripyat the game uses them towards the good ending. It works every time, But if you go through the final archway it will not work.

Also, this is fiddly, awkward and easy to fall off but using the metal rod opposite the walkway leaning up against the wall and the thin ledge you can use the underpass changer without any adjustments to jump height etc.
