I was just reminded of the stuttering/freezing. After 5 seconds of playing the game froze for 15 seconds more before the first NPCs deigned to appear.

There is no Garbage in CoP. Garbage is only in SoC and CS.

There is lots of junk, though.

Another thing I don't like is the Achievements.

Since they have nothing to do with Degtyarev (rather they are a reward from the game to the player) they ruin immersion. And since they hardly affect anything in the actual gameplay or storyline they are pretty useless in practice.

I think it's good that the game keeps track of your playing style, but the result should reveal itself in the game world or storyline itself. Good examples of this are the different bad endings in SoC, or the reputation system of SoC or CS, or better inventory at friendly traders in CoP.

A Wealthy Client, Boss, One of Ours, Friend of Stalkers, Friend of Freedom, Friend of Duty, Pioneer, and Research Assistant all affect traders stocks, while another set of achievements can get you the good endings for one (or two) things in CoP.
And some of the achievements do have an effect, excepts its subtle, so you don't instantly notice it.
If you didn't know this, then you obviously haven't played the game indepth or properly enough yet.

I already mentioned the effect on trader inventory, but now that re-read my own post maybe that sounded like a suggestion more than an observation...

But I must admit I've only read about this effect on traders, I haven't bothered checking it myself since the achievement labels as such don't interest me the slightest.

If the effect is that subtle maybe it's too weak? I'd rather see the effect speak for itself.

In any case it's no reason to use achievement labels for proclaiming it. A smoother way might be in dialogs (like when Sidorovich promised a lifetime discount in CS).

Just two (pretty thorough) games. The third time I simply lost interest and went back to my 12th CS game.

That's how I read it as well.

Most achievements affect only traders. Seasoned Stalker and Artifact Hunter supposedly increase the chance of artifacts spawning. I for one have noticed a slight increase of high level artifacts in nearly all anomaly fields with these two. Probably since I spend so much time in freeplay.

I know. I like Zaton and Jupiter. Pripyat doesn't do much for me at all. CS still has more stuff going on, in general and interesting as well. Might be a CoP mod at some point that makes CoP more interesting for me at some point.

I think CoP turned to be a double edged sword . . .

GSC listened when everyone complained about CS feeling too crowded, that it didn't feel "empty" enough, compared to SoC - and that's what we got with CoP, "empty."

But, there's more than enough AI around though to keep CoP from feeling too empty and boring, they're just not active enough. Fights only break out around key areas, and AI don't really venture around to much.

problem is SOC felt empty, but there always felt like there ws a reason for it, hmm, there's not much going on round oh god i'm going to die sort of feeling. COP just felt empty for emtiness sake.

I don't see anything "empty" about SoC. With all the 25 mens military, bandit, stalker and mutant squads spawning out of the blue every 30 minutes.

The thing is, CoP isn't empty. It's just that NPCs are much more scattered, and combats are too far and few, thus even when you manage to get into a fight, it never poses any challenge.
