Comparisons/Opinions of this and past STALKER's

Firstly, if this is the wrong forum i apologise, the forums layout is hard to navigate ( I iz noob).

Anyway, I was looking through steam after purchasing Call of Pripyat a while ago (completeing it) and I came across CS and SOC.

I never usually buy games before the one I have brought, however they seem to look exactly the same. I loved Pripyat so much that I was thinking about getting CS or SOC. However i've only got enough cash for one (I iz poor too) so I was wondering which one do you guys like the best. Can you list any features about them that Pripyat has/doesn't have.

I also heard that SOC doesn't work too well on VISTA, any confirmations about that?

Thanks a lot guys!

Most people seem to like SoC best, probably because of the atmosphere, storyline and because it was their first Stalker game. It uses no artifact detectors and no suit/weapon repair/upgrades. It has several spooky underground levels. Another nice feature is NPCs migrating across levels.

My personal favorite is CS. It looks and behaves more similar to Cop than SoC, but is much harder/dangerous than CoP. It features several factions you can interact with (faction wars, generally considered tricky and sometimes buggy), and can be varied a lot during replays. The final level is pretty awful, but you don't play Stalker in order to end it.

Never heard about problems with Vista, OTOH I don't use Steam.

Hmm I actually played CoP with the view of completing it, and I think i've missed a lot. Any help to get the most out of CoP, because there isn't a central 'quest hub' or any indication where to find new missions

COP is full of side missions and the best way to find them is by talking to everyone who is hanging around in the bases, Skadovsk has the trader and Barman and Technician with tasks and there's also several fella's hanging around in the bar area with tasks. Yanov has the tech and a few fella's inside the station with tasks, and there's work available from several people in the Scientists bunker. Just go to these three places and talk to everyone you can find and you will find the tasks.

There are many mods for the game aswell but not that many of them actually build on what you need to do. Once you know the vanilla game pretty well you could try a mod that adds new tasks etc. There are some pretty good ones that can significantly increase what is available to do.
There's also mods now that include areas from the older games and there tasks and ultimately these are free.

Don't get me wrong I think if you like Stalker then you need to try all three games. Personally I think it is best to do them in there order of release so you get to experience the additions made as it evolves but having done COP first that's not possible. They all have something different to offer.

Do you have a list of mods that you'd recommend?

duderock101~

Welcome to the GSC Forums!

You should play the Games in the order
released so that they make more sense:

SoC ( 2007 )
CS ( 2008 )
CoP ( 2009 )

There are so many variables, different ways to do the same thing
and different outcomes depending on your actions to each of the 3
Games it's really sad so many people are eager to Mod then before
ever taking the time to discover them. Think of it this way...the people
that made the Games put a lot of stuff into the original Games for a lot
of replayability but Players are always in such a damn rush to the end that
they may only experience about 50-60% of what is there before Modding.

Sad but true.

In all fairness, you can mod the game to personal taste and still discover all that stuff. Abs+AF3+MSO+extras doesn't really change all the extra side quests, stashes, and easter eggs... SGM, well, okay, yeah.

Yeah...but most people install Mods not realizing every single little
thing that is changed and then they have no idea what was already
in the Game and what the Mod added. Worst is when they then get
on the Stalker Wiki and start editing things that they think were part
of the Unmodded Game or they don't know how to uninstall their Mods
correctly and they come here swearing things that don't exist aren't Mods.
