S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat ( 2021-2022 )|
I decided after all to make a new post for a new game testing my new Computer with an RTX 3080. Before I go into more details about it, I wanted to copy some tips I made before in 2015 that I'm following. Some of those I will do the same and others I will not. I will go into detail about the changes.
New Game ( old tips )
- At 8:00am each morning, the Stalkers leave the Skadovsk. Be there and
ask each squad leader leaving where they are going. This enables you to
have free travel and safe passage. Be ready to fight upon arrival as there
may be mutants or zombies ( after the saw mill is wiped out ) Know the
difference between the normal places offered ( those you are charged for
when you ask for choices ) and the places where the squads are going
that are never part of the list ( always take those and/or learn the names
of those locations as they are rare and unusual ). Fast travel is also very
beneficial when you are loaded with loot. At 18:00 each day, most all of
the Stalkers out and about, they return to the Skadovsk. Again fast travel
is free travel and safe passage. Use it to your advantage twice a day.
- Give Cardan 1 bottle of vodka: 10% discount. 2 bottles: 20% discount.
- Don't upgrade the AK-74 other than the scope mount until you get an
AN-94 from one of the military Zombies. Upgrade the AN-94 for accuracy.
- Don't kill Tuna. Take the Altered Wheel and immediately run across the
water ( may a bee line to the Skadovsk ) and you can escape him and his
men without harm. After you purge the Bloodsucker Lair his status will
improve from enemy ( red ) to neutral ( yellow ) so avoid going back
there or near there after you escape him until this action takes place.
- Wait until others can/will attack the Saw Mill with you. Wipe out all the
Zombies there. If you grab the tools and not kill the Zombies you will
get weak and poorly equipped Zombies for the rest of the Game. While
the same action will produce mega-Zombie squads ( until you are killed )
having them low rank and carrying meager equipment is not worth it.
- Completing the Bloodsucker Lair gives you the best reward that you
can get in Zaton. It is the Veles Detector ( best for artifact hunting ).
Don't gas the Bloodsucker Lair. At the steps down that lead to where
they stand, jump from there to the top of one of the nearby electronic
consoles where they can't reach you. Then use a shotgun to kill them all.
Do this on a second trip when you return by yourself to protect Grouse.
This allows you to return any time as the gas prevents return visits.
- Buy the Clear Sky suits from Nimble as soon as possible ( it is 40,000
rubles ) which it is the helmet that is the most valuable since it has 1st
generation night vision and can quickly be upgraded to 2nd generation.
It's up to you if you want to wear/upgrade the suit. I wear the Stalker
( Sunrise ) suit since it can be upgraded to carry more weight and can
have it's own weight reduced to 1.5 kg. I find no need to buy anything
from Owl as simple looting of the dead gives me everything that I need.
The higher the upgrades ( more expensive ) means armors and weapons
are more expensive to repair. This means avoid excess damage to your
armor in battle and when hunting for artifacts. Additionally avoid excess
use of upgraded weapons. Is it worth it to kill a dozen passing mutants
that don't harm you to have to spend 1,000 rubles for weapon damage?
Another tip with the Skadovsk and Zombies. If you go there each
evening, Zombies will pass by it in the night. First of all make sure
you pay attention to the display number of people on board. Since
you don't get "beeps" like SoC does when more people appear or
have a PDA that identifies contacts, that number is your only clue.
To be able to take a weapon to the highest roof deck in the rear,
equip a pistol or AKSU ( AKM-74/2U ) and then get on board from
the tug ( or go forward all the way and come back ) and then go
up the ladder. Other weapons will holster and not come back out
but with those weapons they will either remain out like the pistol
or let you bring them back out ( most of the time ) and once on
top, you can switch to a better scoped weapon. Zombies don't
always appear within range to be detected on your mini-map so
keep an eye out during the day and at night using night vision.
Watch the mini-map to look for red dots if they come within range.
Another thing I'm doing that I forgot to mention has to do with the
Emissions. Even though the Player can find the 3 doses of Anabiotics
in Zaton and take them for immunity and get the "Marked by the Zone"
achievement, I do not do this. The reason is I think that makes the
Game too easy. I actually enjoy being caught out in the open and
having to scramble for cover like everyone else. It makes you pay
attention to the time and place you're at. I do carry one dose of the
Anabiotics just in case I don't make it, but I've never had to use it yet.
One thing you can do if you are with a group of Stalkers when you get
an emission warning is to immediately go to the squad leader and ask
to be taken to the Skadovsk and the delay in time is given for travel.
I only do that if I'm overloaded with loot. Otherwise I will make the
same effort as any Stalkers or Bandits I am with to go seek shelter.
FYI: The scientist mission to go inside the train tunnel to recover the Altered Insulator where there's a Controller, initiates Controllers coming from there in the future. Want to explore Jupiter, hunt artifacts and have a Controller free time? Don't do this until later. Once you do, the Controllers can be found everywhere. Always carry the "Psy-block" and put on a hot-key when that time comes. Hit that key at the very first indication of meeting a Controller to reduce their powers and to combat the mind pull attack.
