S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Demosfen Mod

Trying this based on friend's recommendation on Facebook. Pain in the ass to download, extract and getting it to work. Maybe I'm just rusty with .rar files.

* * * * *

Demosfen - the largest project on the Call of Chernobyl platform. It is based on the new x64 version of the OpenXRay engine, thanks to which the game has advanced improvements in terms of speed, which allows you to put a large number of graphic bells and whistles. You will find many new locations, several new quest chains, new models of characters and mutants, a full-fledged A-Life, new features, such as flying a helicopter and customizing weapons, and also, only here you will find open 3D sights. For the first time in the history of Call of Chernobyl - Bar "100 Roentgen" has been expanded, now it is the real capital of the Zone. To improve the character creation process and the parameters of the new game, the add-on "TRX: Fresh Start" was added. Constant work on the improvement of various aspects of the game, the introduction of new and unique content, the addition of new features and features - all this shows that the project Demosfen keeps up with the times.

Trying this, it's a bit bitty but shows promise and will benefit from a more comprehensive translation; mutant quests in Cordon are best avoided as no markers are shown on the map.
I unpacked the DB's to fiddle around and I'm quite enjoying it so far.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Demosfen Mod

I find this Mod to be another one with a ridiculous economy. I started off as a Loner just south of the Military Checkpoint that I had to skirt around. I made it to the Rookie Village okay. I scrounged for supplies and checked stashes. I went to the tree stump on the hill just outside on the southern side of the Rookie Village.

Apparently this action exposed me to radiation. I had no anti-rads or vodka. Sidorovich wanted over 800 rubles for a bottle of vodka and my character only had 600. Basically I was going to die because red flashes kept appearing on the screen and my health bar decreased despite using a medkit. I did find a bottle of vodka in the cellar on the table however it took two swigs of it. I don't understand why basic things are so expensive. Why? Why does the Anomaly Mod and now this one decide to start with an economy that far exceeds any retail Stalker Game or even the Call of Chernobyl Mod it is based on.

I would like to try one of these Mods with their different looks and a wide variety of different items but they all jack up the cost on everything to suck the fun out of it. I don't understand why Modders think this is cool to charge 2,200+ rubles for a Medkit ( Anomaly Mod ) or 800+ rubles for a bottle of Vodka ( Demosfen Mod ) when the Player can die from a Cat scratch, Boar bunt or walking in the grass. It doesn't make any sense.

You can alter many variables in and out of game in actor.ltx for example and even trader prices; Google helps. I try to stick to vanilla, except for jumping and lighting, and once the challenge lessens so does my interest.

It's a shame you find it frustrating as modders will continue to make the game more challenging to keep seasoned players interested and your missing out of some great mods.

I don't want to miss out on great Mods. I just want to know how people do it. How do you play when you start out with 600 rubles and an economy where a bottle of vodka is over 800 rubles? I didn't know the grass on the hill was radioactive. I'm used to gear having better audio and/or visual clues to warn me before going too far.

Maybe my problem is the initial load out. I like the idea of having 1,000 points to spend and choose from multiple items. Do I choose poorly? What did you choose? I selected the cheapest outfit, the cheapest gun, the knapsack, some medkits and bandages. The Echo detector. I assumed the suit, knapsack and gun would be expensive. I learned my lesson from the Anomaly Mod to have the medkits and bandages but never dreamed a bottle of vodka would be insanely expensive compared to SoC, CS, CoP or CoC.

What were the exavt items you chose with your 1,000 points?

So you are also saying to adjust prices in the actor.ltx? Individually per item or is there a way to do it like Game difficulty? I too like a challenge but I like a challenge to be earned through hard work and not dying because I'm constantly several hundred ruble short just to live a few hours.

Stalker suit, bandages, medkits, long shotgun, bread, anti rads and vodka I think, normal loot, hard AI aiming, I've just checked and I thought I choose realistic difficulty but it says stalker in options?

Prices are altered via trader.ltx as far as I remember; I had a drive docking station blow which took 3 hard drives and I lost all my stalker stuff, including notes on how to do and I can't remember sh.t. {I've got 280,000r from Cordon so its quite generous}

Obviously avoid rad, do fanatics training, shoot from a bush [cover] to attract enemies, they can't see you as you pop them off. I cleared the bandit vehicle park and Mil outpost dozens of times until I had good weapons/ ammo.

The suit I choose somehow hasn't damaged, which is wrong as its been hammered and I find the loot generous, veles was the last big find but hardly any arts in anomalies so far.

This really is an innovative mod and I've only explored the meadow so far, I'm enjoying myself and looking forward to many hours more as its massive.

Don't give up so easily and throw your toys out; your a meticulous player and I know you will enjoy these mods, just think how bloody frustrating The Long Dark is.

EDIT
I've now returned difficulty to "realistic" [has to be done prior to loading game AND ingame] and changed traders will buy weapons from 0.6 to 0.45 which seems fair - and easy to judges, about half way on condition bar.

How its done.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Demosfen Mod

I gave it another try. Did a Loner start at the Flea Market with the Sunrise suit ( hopefully better protection ) and some form of a pump shotgun. Those two things gobbled up 900 points. I was inside some bunker I had never seen before which is cool. Looks like the Garbage level from Lost Alpha and not Call of Chernobyl. Bunker was outside the ruins as what we know as the Flea Market from SoC/CS but in the LA position.

Lots of roaming NPCs good and bad. Found a heavy Duty suit nearby but none of them are good lacking artie containers. Went north towards the Garbage hangar and found it full of Bandits. Survived my assault by pure luck, standing in the right place at the right time. However Game performance was really lacking as lots of freezes.

It got so bad coming back when attacked by Boars. Then Dogs. Changed my Game settings to lower grass density and grass distance. Lowered sun rays to medium. Tried a few other things but only slightly helped. Game is just choppy. Went back to Flea Market Bunker. Two NPCs block the stairwell and I had to jump over them. All the weapons I had looted were junk and no money. One AK was only half damaged and I was going to keep but RT wanted 12,000 to repair and ecomony still f*cked.

Got dark and went to sleep. Woke up the next day with two new visitors, one in Bar and another sitting on couch with RT watching TV. Looked over loot and noticed I had advanced PDA. Lots of material still on it in Russian not translated. NPC on couch said I could hire him for travel. I did and other guy in Bar joined.

They could not get out of the stairway due to those same two NPCs that seemed stuck. Left alone and went south to the level changer. I figured I could tell them to "follow" and going through a level changer they would appear next to me. They did, in the Cordon at the Military Checkpoint. We ran into an ambush and the Game got supper choppy-freezing again. Decided to quit. I just don't think this Mod is optimized to run well. Too many quirks ( stuck NPCs and other stuff ) and not enough English that makes sense. Many translations are horrific and nonsensical.

Amazing how smooth as butter Call of Chernobyl runs but this derivative runs horribly. I like the alternative reality maps, especially the PDA shows many I have never seen before. I like the many unusual items. I don't like the economy and how everything is worn to garbage in looting. If it ran better I could put up with the other stuff but I don't like playing a slideshow. Hopefully more time will get this more refined.

Thats a shame, perhaps they will optimize it in the future. I never have companions as they distract and maybe that's why it runs better for me [on DX9] The trans is rough but so far not too many problems.

TS my old friend, just the thought of it turns my fingers to wet noodles.

I'm a typical leech, a taker not a giver, love to read but not to post, in fact I'd rather have a mild dose of Covid.

Take care.
