Hello Tejas Stalker! Its been a while I can reccomend the mod its very good, excellent atmosphere and hard. Theres a Lets play series on my yt channel if you want to see whats it like.

Crazy difficult!

Hi all, I've just downloaded RTTN (the most recent variant from ModDB) and I'm finding it impossibly difficult.

Experiences to date include:

I met some dogs - I die.
Got spotted by a dot on the horizon - I get shot, and die.
Step foot into a minor-crackle radioactive zone - die.
Walk for more than 15 minutes - I get hungry.
Brush the smallest shrub and every bandit in about 500 metres hears me and comes running, guns blazing - I die.
Someone fires a bullet - I get hit and die.

So I edited myself some improved gear and a radiation/gas mask. No more than five minutes later - I died of radiation as the filter was clogged...

<...the next day...>

...yet more editing and I've finally got out of the Cordon. In vanilla form I'd find this unplayable, as it is it seems overly full of irritants for me - short lasting batteries, air tanks that expire, filters that last mere minutes.

I'm not saying that it's not an impressive piece of work, but I couldn't recommend this to anyone.

Okaaaaay....

Well, after a bit more tweaking (ahem!) I'm starting to enjoy the 'mod'.

It's not without issues (the creatures all wear body armour!), but with a decent suit and helmet I'm no longer a 'one shot kill'. It now takes three.

The necessity for batteries can be turned off from the options (thank heavens), I've fixed a hard crash when talking to some of the traders, and adjusted a few other aspects to make it marginally more user-friendly/rewarding.

I'd now cautiously recommend this, it's huge, and the story is starting to get interesting.

Yes, for sure

Progress to date includes:

FIXED a crash to desktop when conversing with some characters.
MASSIVE reduction in travel costs
WEAPONS dropped will tend to be in better condition*
LOOTING dead NPCs gives you the money they had on them**
TRADERS now buy equipment that is badly damaged
BINOCULARS now give a taller view
CREATURES a small reduction in bullet sponges

CLEANED the visors
CHEAT killing the bear mission in Escape/Cordon gives you the necessary equipment to escape (ahem!) this stalker/starting location - else you will stand close to zero chance of making it out - this is a hellishly difficult area
TWEAKED the rewards from Beard in the 'icebreaker' in Zaton
TWEAKED some dialogue here and there to fit in with my changes
TOOLKITS sometimes come as mission rewards (I think this might be pointless...)

* This needs reviewing as zombies now drop weapons in very good repair, which seems a bit silly to me.
** I probably need to fine-tune this for zombies, who are acting like mobile ATMs at the moment.

Just started and at the risk of sounding big headed , so far in Cordon I must disagree and find the mod well balanced.

I've just completed the mix tape quest by hiding/low crouching in bushes until all the bandits were dead [they come close and kiss a shotgun], and luckily have avoided wildlife -- by avoiding wildlife.

Just adding my 2 cents as I don't want peeps put off.

I for one was hoping for something like this.

Misery has alway been one bridge too far for me and seeing how this mod is in line with it according to their website I've been hesitant to try it out even though I'm hungry for new story mods.

I'm not trying to put people off tbh as this is actually a very impressive 'mod' and the author is still actively building it.

Once outside the Cordon the game seemed to ease up for me, and I'm enjoying it overall, and it seems that you can select where you start, so I'd suggest starting outside the Cordon. But as you say, others may have no problem, so it may be 'user error'...

I'm having a problem with my big head its frightened the bear off and I've spent 3 days and nights searching.
Does it spawn randomly? I'm going to Garbage for a few days to see if that works on my return.

Back to old save restarted and found it.
