Yes, I restarted my game with Story mode. I have the three quests displayed in my quest list. I don't know anything about pursuing that helmet though !!!

Call of Chernobyl mod (Official Thread)

That action is the original one that is taken from the first game. Go to Yantar. Might want to see Doc in the Marshes first though to get everything on your PDA before doing any underground levels. Doc can be found wandering the Marshes between the Clear Sky Base and the Bandit Boat House. Sometimes he sits in the trailer on Anomaly Island. Don't shoot his Pseudodog.

Cool!! Thanks... I guess I wasn't expecting any historical triggers to be present, given how much isn't there in CoC !! Thanks for the leads...

A few more things to add:

Go to Yantar as quickly as possible when you have 17,000 rubles to give Sakharov for the calibrated Psi Helmet. You'll have to wait a few days before it is ready, so go on and travel around and do other things. You will get notification when it is ready to be picked up. I believe if you instead go do the X-16 lab underground, you can come out and he will give it to you for free or a reduced price. I can't remember that alternative, because I did it in an older version of CoC and it may be changed.

If you are playing CoC without additional Mods, as stated your Companions are the greatest source of buying more severly damaged weapons. They pay good. The only other people or NPCs that will do this are any NPCs that is part of a search & rescue job or similar task where you retrieve people. Be sure to sell them weapons before you return for your reward, as they quickly vanish. Likewise the Scientists in the Escort missions at the Clear Sky Base ( given by Spore ) or from the Mobile Lab in Jupiter are treated as Companions if only temporarily.

Make a Manual Save before getting the mission. Reload to get the maximum 2 Scientists in the Marshes and 3 Scientists in Jupiter. You want the most Scientists because each has 5,000 rubles you can sell damaged weapons to, just like Companions ( ability, not money amount ). Reload to get an ideal location that you can safely travel to and return with success. As the locations can rotate through reloads, you can see and learn what the choices are. For example, the Machine Yard in the Marshes is controlled by the Military and is too hot to undertake. Even if you clear it out, the Military quickly re-spawns to take it back. It's up to you on whether you want to take what is given or reload as an option to choose.

Lastly, if you don't find a Veles or Svarog detector rather quickly ( days, weeks or months, depending on how long you want to rough it ) be sure to check non-activated stashes too. Just don't think only activated stashes have stuff in them, although many non-activated stashes are empty. Anyway, getting back to the Scientist Escort missions, all of them are bugged. Nothing happens if you return to point of origin and try to talk to them. You have to make a Manual Save, reload it and then they have the dialogue to complete and reward you. The Marshes Scientists reward with 6 different Artifacts. Choose as desired but also try to get the Artifact AND a stash activation, which doesn't appear every time. However it is the Jupiter Scientists I wanted to mention. They give the same 6 different Artifact OR a Veles Detector. That detector is extremely valuable if you have trouble getting one through other means.

After re-reading your previous message, I met with Doc and got his data, then went to Yantar. I immediately got a quest to "help the scientists deal with zombies", which had me circling around the base several times fighting different groups; once I completed that, Sakharov rewarded me with the calibrated Psi Helmet, and I was able to proceed with the other tasks which required it.

I was really by the "Escort the Scientists" mission!! I got *no* indicators on the map, of where I was supposed to take them, no clues at all... I tried roaming around the marshes with them tailing along behind me, but nothing else ever happened. After an hour of that, I just reloaded a game before I took that quest, and went on my way...

In my current game, I have yet to have the initiated "help the scientists deal with zombies" task, which is kind of a pain in the ass as they appear out of nowhere and are really close to the perimeter. Seems like it's never going to end sometimes. In my previous Game, this took many visits to Yantar before it happened. Perhaps because I kept my visits short and you have to hang out for awhile. I guess I just usually go ahead and pay for the helmet even though I remember getting it for free long ago.

Basically to turn the Ecologists friendly "green", you bring high end mutant parts to Sakharov ( good thing to save them and stash in Yantar ). High end parts are: Burer, Controller, Chimera, Pseudogiant, but NOT Dogs, Pseudodogs, Snorks, Flesh, Boars, Rodents, Tushkano, or Bloodsuckers. Also ask Semenov who patrols outside in the little marsh for work too. Both of these repeat again usually after 24 hours. Other than these two main tasks, you can do simple Ecologist "fetch" jobs from ordinary Ecologists.

The Escort Scientist missions require you to talk ( open dialogue window ) to first Scientists that walks up to you. You will see the choice "okay" so click on it. Then you can look at your PDA to see the selected site. As mentioned before, make a Manual Save before you ask for the nission and reload as needed for your choice of the number of Scientists and the ideal location of your choosing.

Hah!! I guess I cheated by starting out as an Ecologist... I chose that because he started out with a pretty useful weapon. Side effect, though, was that all the Ecologists were already green!!

Hmmm... apparently I did something wrong with the Escort mission... I thought I *did* talk to the head guy in the team, assuming that was the guy with a yellow star instead of dot... maybe I mis-read the map...

I guess I just assumed you were a Loner since I consider them the best choice having the most allies, which means access to the most Traders and their inventories. I guess I've never wanted to be an Ecologist because Sakharov has a crappy inventory ( does he sell more to a fellow Faction member? ) and Kruglov only does repairs and not upgrades.

I forgot to warn you of a small detail. Some Scientist Escort missions may show up at Anomaly sites. That means when you look at your PDA Map, you may have to click on the tab to remove the Anomaly circle locations to see the target identifying your mission.

Plus I don't want to be enemies with the Mercenaries...or is it Freedom?

Yeah, Sakharov's inventory is pretty useless... however, all the standard merchants are still available - Yanov, Cordon, 100 Rads Bar... and Yanov is available almost immediately, since Ecologist starts out in the Scientists bunker right near it (that was one of two options). It *was* a challenge, though, stepping out the door from Yanov station the first time, and being greeted by a pseudogiant!! Got me off to a rousing start!

I'll keep in mind your comments about the Escort mission site possibly being concealed, if I go back to CoC at some point. For now, I'm done with it... once I had my preferred kit, wandering from region to region with no purpose except fighting mutants, wasn't very interesting...
