I didn't even realize that was possible and I'm not too far into the game yet. You perform a group of SGM quests first before you find keycards to enable you to examine the choppers.

There's more than one key card for the choppers? In 1.7 there's just one and you get it from Sokolov in the Jupiter mobile lab when you identify yourself to him - makes the cutscene in Pripyat seem a bit odd, though, when you identify yourself to the soldiers and Sokolov acts like he had no idea. He says, "I knew it!" and you just want to reply, "of course you did - I told you in Jupiter."

Maybe it is just one keycard...I don't know yet. Some of the quests seem hard as you have to search alot. No handholding here which is good.

Call of Pripyat ( 2015 )

This person just took 7,000 rubles from me yesterday.
Today I caught up with him and got back 16,997 rubles.
After that I escorted him all the way back to his camp safely:

HA! "Bandit Jack" would be a good title for a game.

Dwarf robbed 2,100 rubles from me when I tried to leave Shishak.
When we met again I took 6,436 rubles from him and left him alive.

He's the first NPC I take out after getting the Gauss rifle fixed. That added bit of robbery, and the fact that you can do nothing about it without killing all of them, annoys me.

Plus, with SGM, Dwarf has a personal flash drive that contains the location of his stash. And it has the best contents of any personal stash in SGM 1.7 - I think whoever put that mod together left that stash a bit over-filled: XM8 assault rifle (available to buy from the Merc trader at over 100,000 Ru), 5,000 rounds of M72 Dum Dum bullets (only available to buy after finishing the game, at 12,000 Ru per 100 rounds), Vintorez and a few other things.

No-one takes any notice if you shoot him with the Gauss. Any other weapon has them all coming after you.

Shishak has a personal flash drive, too. But getting his is easy - just go see him and, while you're there, place a remotely-detonated charge. Takes out all in there usually. Or you can just lead a couple of boars in there. Bandits don't seem to be too good at killing boars, but they can take out chimeras without much problem.

Call of Pripyat ( 2015 )

I was in Zaton for 5 weeks before leaving. I left and entered Jupiter
on September 10, 2012 ( one year after Scar woke up at the CS Base )
and I have to admit my Game play style has entirely changed. To begin
with I left Zaton with about 350,000 rubles. That was entirely just from
selling loot and not any artifacts, armors or helmets. Additionally I kept
every single artifact detector I found including a small collection of PDAs,
guitars and harmonicas I bought. Weapons, medkits, bandages and some
excess 9 x 18 and vodka have been the major sources of earning money.

In Jupiter I did the scrounging of supplies at the Cement Plant for Nitro
( which gave free labor but not parts ) on all repairs and upgrades. Then
I did the hunting of the Bloodsuckers ( which finally turned all my Loners
friendly ( green ) meaning I get the best prices buying and selling to them
which included Nitro & Hawaiian but not Cardan & Owl. Since I have also
saved every single weapon I looted after 5 weeks in Zaton and only had
repaired those not too damaged that I could make a profit on, now I can
haul those weapons back to Jupiter every time I run excess supplies the
other way. I'm keeping my Jupiter stash at a minimum in anticipation
of the day when Snag will loot and relocate it. Of course I got the Bandit
related "Diplomat" achievement paying off the demands with cash rather
than giving up artifacts or fighting them. Why kill Jack when I paid him
7,000 rubles, and can find him later and sell him anti-rads for 16,960
rubles and a sausage for 37 rubles leaving him 3 rubles. If I killed him
instead I would not get the achievement or the 10,000 rubles on him.
I was there when he was later killed by Freedom and I recovered all
that I sold him which means I lost nothing and the 16,997 was pure profit.
I'm still waiting for someone to ask how I got the money back from Dwarf.

My playing style is different because I really haven't done any artifact hunting
yet. In Zaton I found all the artifacts but 2 ( Gravi +8 weight carrying and
the Goldfish +12 ) however Grizzly did give me a Goldfish for rescuing Mitay.
Since I have plenty of money, looting is less important than completing tasks.
In the Burer tunnel I didn't fool with shooting and playing duck with them. I
just ran in and knifed them for one of the quickest Burer kills ever. The last
mutant task of the night Chimera was different. I went there and got on the
tower and the Chimera hid from me. Then a blowout hit and I ran to the
Container Yard. I came back and got a few hits but when morning came the
Chimera disappeared. I had to come back the next night and fight it again.
An emission hit again and the second night was like the first. Finally after
making some damage I climbed down and went in for the kill with a shotgun.
I recently sold Topol's crew ( they can trade while Topol can't ) some shotguns,
TRs-301s and IL-86 ( they each have 5,000 rubles ) so that they have a better
chance of survival when the time comes for my escorting them for the scientists.

Nice tactics. You seem to plan way ahead. I don't know the game that well myself. I guess I better get after it but I'm waiting for the new video card.

Call of Pripyat ( 2015 )

FYI: The scientist mission to go inside the train tunnel to recover the
Altered Insulator where there's a Controller, initiates Controllers coming
from there in the future. Want to explore Jupiter, hunt artifacts and have
a Controller free time? Don't do this until later. Once you do, the Controllers
can be found everywhere. Always carry the "Psy-block" and put on a hot-key
when that time comes. Hit that key at the very first indication of meeting
a Controller to reduce their powers and to combat the mind pull attack.
