Call of Pripyat ( 2015 )

To reduce Yar acting strangely, I always go to Kopachi by myself first
and clear out all the Zombies inside the House and the surrounding
area. Then I return to Yanov and initiate the event with him. This
way always helps in looting in that I have enough room to get all
the Mercenary stuff just by itself. I use the same method of
clearing out Kopachi prior to the Scientist escort mission.

Speaking of that, the Scientist escort mission near Plavni is another
location that you can pre-plan. Wait until the Loners, Freedom or
Duty arrive there ( don't wait until they may leave as the days ends )
and definitely don't let it be Bandits. Then go to the Cement Plant or
a nearby location with Loners/Duty/Freedom for fast travel to the Mobile
Lab. Initiate the Scientist escort mission and when you appear there
with Topol and his 3 men ( if they have all survived ) for when all the
mutants attack, you have 2 to 3 extra men to help out. Every bit helps.

I may not have the PSU problem I thought I did. Apparently when I
took off the side cover to my case to take the PSU measurements to
make sure I had some flexible room, I used an air can to blow out the
ghost turds. This action seemed to have made my abrupt power offs
go away since I have not had one since. Might have just needed cleaning.

Nice! Glad to hear it was a simple fix. It's really hard to imagine you not playing a STALKER game for any extended period of time, when I first started reading this site I thought it might even be the only series that you play at all.

In my previous CoP games I had always cleared all zombies from the area before accepting Yar's mission on the notion that they might kill him, but I recently had read that they wouldn't attack him as he approached the house so I decided to leave them all alive for the Mercs to contend with just for variety's sake. His dance fever most likely was caused by the presence of Dutyers who were lounging around the Ash anomaly at the time.

That's an awesome tip for the Plavni escort mission, I hadn't even considered enlisting some extra help in that way. I actually don't have any squads of Bandits roaming Jupiter yet as I've yet to really have any interaction with them whatsoever within the level. I think I may do the Ecologist's escort missions next just to see if I can get Controllers appearing in the level before any Burers, Chimeras, or wandering Bandits show up at all. The flexibility of the missions and the various spawn triggers are a huge part of what makes these later playthroughs so much fun to experiment with.

No interaction with the Bandits? No Diplomat achievement?
That's one of my favorite achievements I get in every game.

Not as of yet, but I'll free Mitay and pay Vano's debt right around the time that I get the Artifact Hunter achievement so I can use your technique to get the Monolith refugees inducted into Freedom. There's no plan to skip over any missions entirely, I'm mainly just seeing how much I can complete without triggering certain spawns. But I will have to trigger Burer spawns in order to get Sokolov to join up, so I'll probably also allow the Chimeras in around that time too by finally acknowledging Trapper and doing his missions.

Doing things in this order does significantly reduce any danger during the Fen anomaly portion of the scientist's escort missions, though. Only having to contend with the few groups of boars and fleshes that spawn for the mission turned the whole thing into a total cakewalk.

I'm not sure if I read or was told that there was a limited time to do both
of those. Unless you never go near those two locations, I was under the
impression that the payoff/ransom must be done quickly within a few days
of arriving in Jupiter or the conditions deteriorate or cease to exist. I've
never bothered to test this but have done both of them rather promptly.

The other advantage is Grizzly rewards you with a Goldfish artifact ( best one to
carry more weight ) which coincidently was 1 of the last 2 artifacts that I needed
( other was Gravi ) and could not find in Zaton to get the Artifact Hunter achievement.

I lucked out and found a Goldfish and Bubble very early in this game, so loot-hauling has been a breeze. But on the downside I have yet to see a single Flame, Firefly, Snowflake or Shell.

It's been almost three weeks since I first entered Jupiter and Vano, Grizzly and Torba still behave as they did on the first day. I imagine that the quest availability could be compromised by the important Bandits being killed by hostile forces. But so far I've been avoiding the Container Warehouses while carefully defending Jack's group at the checkpoint from threats (mostly zombies), so they should still be fine. I think that any time-limit associated with the missions would most likely begin after talking to the quest-givers.

I'll use a save to check on the availability of both once I get home from from work.

EDIT: Nope, no need to rush. The missions in CoP are all fairly compartmentalized, they're ready pretty much whenever and in the order that you choose to tackle them. http://i.imgur.com/iyRije1.jpg

The Controller spawns have been relentless, I've killed about a dozen in less than a day since the scientist mission. They're my favorite mutant though, so I'm always glad to see them (unless they see me first).

I just broke 1 million RU on my 27th day in this game. http://i.imgur.com/ES2tlmw.jpg

Nearly 37% (365,502 RUB) of this amount was earned within six days spent in Yanov hunting zombies and selling artifacts to Beard. Roughly 60,000 per day, mainly due to an increase in zombified Stalker spawns after taking the Altered Insulator and releasing the Yanov Controllers. 301 of the 818 zombies total were dispatched within this same period. I achieved this by regularly traveling between all zombie hangouts and spawn points in between hunting a decreasing number of artifacts.

There are still no random Burers, Chimeras or Bandits in Jupiter due to my avoidance of certain characters, missions and areas. The vast majority of money-earned comes from the looting of dead Duty, Freedom and Stalkers, along with the near-constant influx of zombies. I've also killed easily more than 50 Controllers between those who linger at the tunnel and the ones who've ventured out in to the Zone during this time.

I'm still holding-off further progress in the game until I earn the Artifact Hunter achievement. However, the artifact spawn-rate seems to have decreased since my helping to install the artifact detectors for the Ecologists. Not sure if this is scripted or just luck of the draw, but I suppose I'll have to start travelling to Zaton more often as moving between maps always seems to increase the spawns for me. Probably hit up ol' Snag next and see if completion of his sequence has any effect on the Bandit spawns.

Anyway...

Yes, I thought you knew that installing the scientific equipment for the
scientists inside the specific anomalies causes them to eventually get
bugged and they stop producing artifacts. At that point you have to go
back to Zaton for the continuous productions and selling of artifacts if
that's your needed primary source of income. Now you know why I have
not done the Scientist's missions yet ( not that I sell any ) which in turn
means I have not yet activated the Controller spawns. I have lots of
Bandits, Burers and Chimeras everywhere in my Game. Best of times.

I had always completed the scientist missions much later in the progression during previous playthroughs, so it's possible that I never even noticed the drop-off in Yanov artifact spawns. Plus I tend to stop focusing on collecting once I acquire all of the artifacts needed for practical use. The final third of the game and freeplay tend to be more about amassing the rare ammo types for me, and then unleashing them on my enemies until I get tired of it all and start messing around with SoC again.

The heavy concentration of zombies and Controllers does give the level a different sort of feel, almost a Yantar kind of vibe. I don't recall the Controller spawns coming as fast as this in previous games where I had all available NPC and mutant types within the area, as they currently spawn almost immediately after I kill either of the two that can usually be found (one in the tunnel and one that randomly travels to certain terrains). Exo-zombies bearing RP-74s have seemingly become much more common as well, and now I'm starting to build a decent stash of 7.62x54 PP.

Haha, nice shot. I could never understand why anyone would want to just sit around in that tunnel. Much better to quickly run in and out with Eliminator in hand. Catching two at once is always a pleasant surprise: http://i.imgur.com/03UvFqL.jpg
