Please help! Thank you!

Hello!

I currently have 2x2GB of DDR3 and using a Windows 7 Ultimate on 32bit version. I read on the internet that if I upgrade to 2x4GB of DDR3 it will be a waste of money because Windows only uses 4GB of RAM. Is this true or false? My motherboard supports up to 16GB of RAM.

I ask you this because I want to play STALKER with MISERY mod and I can't. Every time I change the options I get a CTD! Someone implied that I should get more RAM.

My PC specs are:
Motherboard ASUS P8H61-M LX
INTEL Pentium Dual Core G620 SandyBridge, 2.6GHz/3MB L3, 65W, Socket 1155
DDR3 2x2GB PC1333 CL9 Kingston
Gainward GTS450 1024MB DDR3, 128bit, PCI-E, PhysX
Windows 7 Ultimate 32bits

I'm able to play Call of Pripyat vanilla on max, I even play GTA4 on max, but I can't play MISERY mod?
Can someone help? Thank you very much!

True, 32-bit Windows can only use 4 GB of RAM.

STALKER itself will only use 2 GB of RAM on 32-bit systems, 3 GB if you set the LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag. If you set the flag on 64-bit Windows, the game will be able to use up to 4 GB.

I want to play the MISERY mod which requires more RAM. But I don't want to upgrade to 64bit only for that. Also some programs won't work on 64bit. My question is, if I buy 2x4GB RAM will I be able to play Call of Pripyat with MISERY mod or not?

If you buy the RAM and are able to play the mod, it won't be because the game will have more memory.

Your friendly neighbourhood mathematician.

I have no problem playing Misery with 4gb ram.I'd say if your gonna change something get a 64bit os. My specs are Win7 home premium 64bit, 2.7dual core, 4gb ram and HD6770 and it runs Misery great. My fps is a bit low if I max everything but it still runs fine.

But how can I upgrade to 64bit if my motherboard is on 32bit? I don't want to buy a new PC...

That would be a hypothetical scenario, since you have a 64-bit motherboard and CPU.

your motherboard/cpu combination is fully capable of running a 64-bit OS (virtually all modern PC's are).

you are already running Win7, but you can't do a simple OS upgrade to 64-bit. you have to get a 64-bit version and do a completely new install of windows.

backup all your files first, on a external drive, so you can copy them over after the OS install, then get some more RAM.
