Long way to go to commit suicide.

Generally I agree with you. But if you think about it, if one had nowhere to hide, the Zone would be a great place for him. Also curiosity is a strong motivation for many people. I definitely want to travel to the real Zone sometime in my life just out of curiosity, I don't know if I'd dare to go to the Stalker one.

As a rule the Stalker worlds zone would only be visited by certain types of people. A, Official goverment sponsored types, B, Mercs on highly paid missions, C, Criminals normally facing life or death sentences, D, Daredevils and fools, and finally E, The Noahs of the world. I think that would cover 99% of visitors and really any others would be covered by D aswell.

Another possible would be the man who's dying daughter could be cured by something only available in the zone. But you could sit here all day coming up with scenario's that would force a mans hand to go there, At the end of the day you would do it for money or out of desperation or because you have been ordered to.

Personally, nah I like living to much. It would be great seeing some of the things in real life though.

F....people who are sick bored of every day routine and are in need of something new out of this world..

I would go ...been in the army before so it could help a little.

Edit . now that I read it again I might fall under the "Noah" Category

Boring is preferable to dead.

Seriously, even with the impossibly-protective armours the game has, anyone going more than a few metres into the Zone might meet with a gang of tushkanos and be torn down in seconds - real beasties don't have hard-wired, highly-predictable attack paths like Zone mutants do.

Meeting your first bloodsucker and suddenly realising you don't have a target cross hanging in the air in front of you that turns red when it passes over an invisible enemy would be a pretty trouser-filling moment. Only a moment, because then you'd die.

Interesting question. Which Zone do you mean? The ones from SoC and CoP at least offer some light at the end of the tunnel. The one from CS only leads to death.

Let's just take the Zone in general. Once I made it into the Zone, I would have a very small chance of ever leaving. I would probably get shot by the military. So, once inside, I would roam around looking for oddities. If I met anyone, I would not be able to trust them fully. I would always worry about being knifed in my sleep. Plus, add in that I don't speak Russian, so I would not be making many friends.

It rains a lot in the Zone, and I would inevitably get drenched with no quick way of drying my clothes. I would not be able to get a shower or use a toilet, because most if not all the pipes in the Zone are rusted and the running water has probably been cut off a long time ago. Most of the lakes and ponds are radiated, so that would not be a good option for either drinking or washing.

There are no females in the zone, so that is a real morale sapper.

So, I would try to find artifacts to sell so I could buy ammo to kill anyone getting in my way. My only hope would be to collect enough artifacts/money so that I could one day be lucky enough to leave the zone and set myself up somewhere where I could have peace and quiet and health.

My guess is that even the best stalkers among us would be dead in just a few days. In real life, there is no "hit enter to continue".

I think the Zone is best left to being experienced in a game.
