But SGM is the only mod I've put in that uses that file. No other mod I have uses it at all.

EDIT: And after looking at the vanilla files through the extractor, ui_custom_msgs_16.xml isn't even used in vanilla, so the only mod that is adding that file to my gamedata folder is SGM.

Ok. I found the issue. It was in the closecaption.script file. The lines for the megaphone announcements were given the wrong value for what closed caption they were supposed to be and the game kept crashing because of it. I went in and tweaked the values and it works fine now.

Now, I need to figure out how to get the captions working for all words uttered instead of just quest specific ones.

EDIT: Ok. Turns out you have to start a new game if you want all NPC speech to be captioned.

If you guys want, I can release just the caption portion of this if any of you wish to have captions.

You haven't properly merged ui_custom_msgs_16.xml. And yes vanilla uses it and also s-cop uses it...

Well sorry.

As I said, turns out it wasn't an issue with that. It was an issue with the closecaption.script file.

As for ui_custom_msgs_16.xml being in vanilla, then why can't I find it using the extractor?

And the latest SVN build of the mod I got didn't contain ui_custom_msgs_16.xml anywhere within configs\ui. And even if it did, it shouldn't have required it for the subtitles to work anyway.

[error]Argument 0 : cs_subtitles_object_shadow
[error]Argument 1 : ui\ui_custom_msgs_16.xml

Means that there's missing cs_subtitles_object_shadow inside ui\ui_custom_msgs_16.xml.

AddCustomStatic(), GetCustomStatic() functions use ui\ui_custom_msgs.xml.

closecaption.script uses AddCustomStatic() and GetCustomStatic()

Means that the bug is NOT in closecaption.script and it is in SGM - or was created by merging them together...

Which is why this bug was fixed when I tweaked closecaption.script.

There's not a problem. It's fine. Game hasn't crashed since I tweaked it.

The problem was the megaphone announcements weren't given the proper value for their caption type. The value was an 8 (not even used), when the values you could use ranged from 1-4. I simply changed the value to 1 to have it be a message and set some more parameters to have it say who the person is who was speaking those lines and voila. No more freezing. And the captions display perfectly.

There was also a bug in the script that prevented the normal sentence dialogues from working on load. It was referenced wrong. The line for saving the variable originally read:


save_variable("cc_vrb", cc_icc)



when it should've read:


save_variable("cc_vrb", cc_vrb)

Why thank you.

Though this isn't my mod, per say. This caption system is from the original English translations for the Russian version by the s-cop team. I'm just simply taking the caption feature out and using that as a standalone feature.

To tell the truth, I don't even know if I can release it on its own. I may ask the team if they're still alive so to say.

But if I'm able, and I see if everything works ok, I may post a link up. As well as a link to the Russian Audio Mod.

I don't think so. tsl16b (author/scripter of s-cop) already stated that s-cop project will become subtitle mod, but I don't know why there are still complete translation files...
