Does 'Wearyourgoddamnedhelmet' not go well with this? Maybe it will merge in.

I found out why Degtyarev had apparently gone deaf. And I repeated it, too: after I went 'red' hungry and ate, 'something' reset one of the volume sliders in the options section. I let Degtyarev get 'red' hungry again, ate again, and the sound went off again - the slider had been reset again.

Not sure how game volume relates to the actor being very hungry, but I'm sure it shouldn't.

Sorry, don't have a link. I'm sure there will be one in 'mod downloads' somewhere. I've never used it, just heard of it.

As to merging, I think there are freeware programs that assist with that. One is called something like 'winmerge'.

Its quite easy to use multiple mods if done carefully. The main thing to watch for is any mods that bring in files that conflict with others. Basically, if something has to be overwritten, take note of what which file(s) it is. Can you find out whats different about the file than usual which might be what makes the mod what it is? See if you can copy those exact changes into the version of the file you're using without overwriting it completely.

Doing this can take a lot of trial and error, but with some work, its usually possible to merge successfully. I use SGM 1.4.5 with different sounds, custom nightvision filters, slightly altered weight, MUCH stronger mutants, Alfa squad turned on, etc.

I'd have 1.5 by now, but the download site is that damned Narod.ru filesharing service again. I can never get to the actual download links there - I always get stuck with it wanting me to install some damned toolbar. I can't get the translators to work on the site either without preventing the security number from generating.

Is there any other way to get 1.5? I can't get the Alfas to spawn more than once or twice per squad in 1.4.5. Seems this changes in 1.5. Also, I want to figure out exactly what makes Faction commanders and Alfa commanders so strong so I can apply that in varying degrees to anyone with the stronger suits. For the most part, armor is STILL broken on NPCs - While resistances to elements and mutants improve, gunfire resistance from the player is largely always the same, even if it works properly against other NPCs, which makes no sense at all. Even Alfa squad soldiers seem as weak as anyone else. Its their commanders which make the difference - bastards can take TWO Gauss rounds to put down. No one else can claim that, and that needs to change.

There are certain lines taht tell what Degtyarev wears when he puts on a certain suit, as of now, it says, freedom_light_hero or something like that
I have no patience to actually mod it, but you just need to replace the actor hero mesh with what the NPCs wear, it'd be done every time the mod updates though I bet
Its straight foward just have to have the patience, its all in outfix.ltx

I'm looking at these lines. Took me about 5 seconds to find the file after I read your post, 20 more seconds to see what you mean.

There's lines, back to back, for "Visual" and the outfit visual when worn by you. Sure enough, there's an "actor_visual" version of each outfit, which probably means every outfit minus the headgear so you see his face. If your outfit has a helmet visual (like a SEVA or Exo), I suppose you could just copy what the Visual entry is into the actor_visual line to achieve the desired result. Probably wouldn't work quite right on helmetless outfit appearances, but that would only be an issue with earlier outfits. Also, this would have to be done on every outfit you wear and plan on wearing soon.

Unfortunately, I just checked with the "Wearyourgoddamnhelmet" mod and naturally it only applies to vanilla outfits. Likewise, it would undo the outfit changes SGM does.

Hmm. Ok, I'll go see about that.

..........and it worked. Thanks for that. Shouldn't hold me back anymore.

Now, some might be wondering how I encountered Alfa before 1.5. There's an option in gamedata/configs/mod_parameters/mod_parameters.ltx to switch them on. I wouldn't recommend this just yet. I did it almost from the beginning and made my latest foray through Stalker a true challenge. Its the kind of challenge I sometimes desire, the kind that makes wonder if I went too far for once and will have to start over the game because I just made it f**king impossible.

And I was almost there. The first time I encountered the squad was just after I'd dealt with the bandit base for the first time. I'd paid the 4500 RU fee to be let in. After browsing around, I went over to the anomaly bridge with the abandoned army envoy. I was browsing around when I suddenly died. Eyes widened with WTF factor. I had to reload the game before I realized I was shot. Had to reload again to find out who did it. Had to reload again to get into position to retaliate without being noticed. Had to reload again after they saw me anyways.

After about 15 attempts, I finally landed a secure position on the bridge, behind a pillar past some anomalies. They wouldn't approach through the anomalies, so the squad scaled the sides of the bridge but wouldn't step on it. This gave me time to weigh my options. Unfortunately, I didn't have much to hit them back with - I was only in a Stalker Heavy Suit, with a freshly purchased TOZ-34 Pathfinder, and the Vintorez from the burning village with mostly PAB-9s. I slowly put down the squad with carefully placed slugs, but the commander was a behemoth. I marveled at the superhuman endurance of this titanic stranger, the one in the odd rubbery Exo-looking suit with the Fallout Power Armor helmet to match. Nothing I had was enough to put him down. He alone took 13 reloads before I tried running for it. That too always failed.

Then I got inventive. I ran back into the bandit base and took a meat shield, a bandit standing guard just beyond one of the gates. Eventually, the Alfa commander showed up and recklessly opened fire. The damned bandit took hits a lot better than I did, but still went down quickly. That turned the WHOLE base on the assailant, which forced him indoors for cover. He was taking hits left and right all over the place. I eventually caught him reloading around the corner, and placed two 9x39s in the head, which finally brought him down. By then, most of his squad had despawned, which left little to loot, but what was had was quite good, and I got some free upgraded guns for my extensive troubles.

This incident turned out to be nothing compared to the following day, when I realized to my horror just how many of these squads there were in Zaton, and how adept they were at spotting me from afar. Running to Skadovsk for cover almost ended my game right there. They couldn't come in, but waited endlessly outside - 2 dozen of them. They'd randomly shoot the hull and call for my blood. I'm just glad Alfas ignore everyone else by default - had it taken down any Loners on the way in, I'd have never gotten out. I had to wait until nightfall for a Loner leader to guide me elsewhere.

Since then, it'd been mostly guerilla warfare - sticking it to the man from afar with explosives aplenty. When those ran out, I ran back to the Bandits and instigated a small war. Fortunately, by the time Chapaev had about run out of flunkies to exploit, I had an Exo and enough ordinance to become self-reliant against any impending threat. I thanked him for his time with a smile and a pack of C4, and helped myself to his stash.

Best 4500 RU I've ever spent.

The regular Alfa soldiers are in Brownish Bulat suits. The Commander wears something quite unique. An oddish looking kind of heavy suit what looks like a dark rubber. The helm is a direct model rip of the Brotherhood of Steel Power Armor helmet from Fallout 3.

Dude is balls tough and impossible early on without heavy explosives, assistance, or direct blasts of buckshot to the face. Often uses an Avalanche or modded Mossberg w/slugs so expect him to punch through whatever you're wearing better than others (since, for some mind-boggling reason, no one else in SGM seems to be using AP rounds of any sort, aside from 9x39s & sniper rounds. its almost as if all the armor was INTENDED to be this weak.......)
