COP was a lot scarier than clear sky. but it was NOTHING compared to SOC. what gives? and don't go telling me that you can only put so many giant brains in so many giant jars. the scariest part of x16 was the entrance and exit anyway.

what happened? COP only gave us tiny labs that weren't even that scary. why are you so reluctant to strike the type of fear in the player that you did with SOC?

NO MORE HALF ASSED LABS! creepy shit makes stalker work!

Could it be that, from experiencing the 'scary' labs in SoC, you have now grown a thicker hide and don't feel the same gut reaction to things similar to those already dealt with?

That initial scare would probably still be there if CoP had been your first foray into the Zone. But you have already anaesthetised yourself against it by having experienced it in SoC.

i've thought of that, but whenever i envision SOC, i just don't think the other games hold up.

I admit i wouldn't be as frightened by the SOC labs as i once was, but they still top the COP ones big time.

and the labs need to be bigger too.

Some people just don't understand that the zone is changing from CS through to CoP and so is the game play and what we encounter.

The three games are telling a story that is no where near finished and the story makers do not pander to type of players want everything to bigger and nastier and scarier which each new version of the game: they are telling the story they want not what you want.

also, when you put too many scary labs in, it loses its effect because you know that there is wierd shit in there.

I think it was good on GSC to take the "less is more" approach with their games, rather than other games, like call of duty's "let us give you 3 playable characters and kill off 2 of them because you were all so sad when jackson died". sorry for the not that related analogy, I dont often play horror games.

Well; Clear Sky was about adding Faction Wars and the SoC Prologue, while CoP was more about a sidestory to SoC with a focus on storytelling in a PS3-game kind of way (plenty of cutscenes etc.).

I might agree with that, after playing SoC, you can hardly top the experiences of the original X-Labs, and especially the approach to the brain scorcher outdoors.
Certainly you could easily add much tougher Labs, with tougher encounters and more mind-twisting events, but you can't bring back the feeling from your first Agroprom Underground visit and whatever else Soc...

We just can hope that GSC has some bomb ready and armed for us, for STALKER 2

I was pretty scared in the lab in CoP. Hell, Pripyat itself probably scared me more than nearly everything else I've encountered in the STALKER series. I simply do not dare explore it at night.

Agreed! Pripyat is pretty creepy place, especially at night. As much as i love it during daytime,i fear it twice when it's night time. The empty streets, the wind, the sounds, the mumbling of the zombified, the roar of a bloodsucker...oooh,sends chills down my spine I always rush in and return to the Laundry when the sun sets.

With atmosfear mod it is scary, without it, not much.

shoc was scary, that I can confirm, but maybe because I was younger back then. ;D
