question to the gun enthusiasts here
So after years of enjoying the Stalker series, and having completed CoP a number of times, I've decided to try shooting guns in real life at the gun range as a hobby. I know I'll never be able to shoot probably half of the guns in Stalker out in the real world, but I figure I should be able to try a number of them.
This past week I purchased a Bulgarian made PMm Makarov to use in shooting classes and I love it My main question is how many of the guns featured in Stalker can be legally used in the US like my Makarov? I know many of the NATO arms can be found, though the Warsaw pact stuff isn't always obtainable.
I'm a huge enthusiast, and I shoot for sport. My friend owns a range, so many weapons I don't buy, for that reason. However I own an original, true eastern made Ak-47, incredible, a Carbine, not in the game.. Several WWII weapons, MP40, Thompson, Luger, 3, and several bolt action rifles.
Now, I spend a LOT of time shooting, I also spend 3x the amount of time playing Arma2 Military Simulator than Stalker, all games combined, it's that amazing. My two favorite games period.
I've always been impressed with the ballistics, they're very good. They're not close to perfect in many ways, however they're at least there, and it's a part of the gameplay. More than anything, accuracy IMO is ..good. But better is muzzle velocity, although the Ak is far better in real life than in the game.
Off Topic: Arma2 Military Simulator: ATTN Stalker fans, untapped greatness!
Anyways, Arma2 models and 'simulates' these weapons with incredible accuracy and I have not found even one inconsistency between the simulator and real life. Arma2 is an amazing feat, and I recommend it to ALL Stalker fans. Now, it doesn't have A-Life, but it has the 2nd best AI ever made, and damn close to that of A-Life, however the system is different and cannot be implemented. The fighting/gaming in Arma2 takes place in an area 225 square km, actually it's an exact copy of an area of the Czech Republic. They went to great extent to replicate this "real" life area, including downs, forest, all. The game engine has animal life, incredible graphics, very very good AI, nearly the equivalent of A-Life. But not A-Life, I LOOOVE A-Life and I've studied what's been made public of the technology, it's amazing to me.
Now, Arma2 is FAR more of a game than any Stalker could ever be, but it's the culmination of years of work all put together perfectly into one simulator. Also, Stalker simply isn't supposed to be what Arma2 is, and it shouldn't be. However there's no denying the [only visual] similarities. Many ask about the engines, many suggest using Arma2's for Stalker...never, Xray rocks, not as good, but too perfect for Stalker, the engine can never change, no way, all immersion will be lost!
Anyways, I love Stalker, soo much, but if you want an incredible experience with infinite replayability, even single player because of the included and incredibly simple to use editor, allowing you to create [any] battle you can imagine. Just youtube search video's for it, nothing but amazement. I've made several of my own missions, and downloaded probably a hundred user made missions from the community, it's never ending, and incredible. So the single player user can have an incredible experience, and multiplayer, well, it's as real as it gets, absolutely remarkable. However, I must admit, it truly requires a pretty hardcore PC. At least a good, modern quad core, lots of fast memory, very good hard drive speed, as the engine is streamed, and naturally a very beefy graphics card. This game is simply unplayable and just different with bad hardware. A great dual core, fast DDR2 and at least a Radeon 4850 or GeForce GTX280 should be sufficient for medium graphics. But this game truly requires the best of the best to play on high settings. Forgive the length, I just see the Stalker fans getting one hell of an experience from Arma2. There's a DEMO, however it hardly reveals anything at all, you're not squad leader, but..it's a very very small, free taste, with replayability.
