When a body 'bursts its banks'

Has anyone seen this before? I was using one of the perma-bodies in Army Warehouse as a storage facility for ammo, artifacts etc (actually, I was using 3 bodies as I had so much stuff, but I think the problem may have only been caused by one of them). Anyway, I dropped some more stuff into the bodies and saved my game. When I later reloaded it (I was standing next to the bodies when I saved), I turned around to face the bodies, only to find my PC bought to a standstill framerate wise. What I could see was the body with the artifacts and ammo was ablaze with light - as the artifacts were sitting on top of the body! I thought 'oh no, I've stuffed it too much and it's broken', so I rushed out to the Duty farm to pick up Skull's body and take it to the Warehouse, to try and move some of the stuff from that body to another, fresh body.

Imagine my surprise when, after I had picked up Skull and had reached the gate of Army Warehouses, my FPS suddenly dropped to a magic 2FPS (this on a Quad Core PC, 4GB Ram, 8800GT video card). I kept on plodding along at 2FPS to my destination (the railway tunnel), and when I got within sight of the tunnel, I saw what was causing my FPS troubles. The whole tunnel was ablaze with light, floating artifacts and ammo packs! The weird thing was, when I eventually plodded into where the body was, the body still contained (apparently) all the artifacts and ammo, but they seemed to have duplicated themselves outside of the body, and apparently the STALKER engine was having trouble rendering hundreds of artifacts and tens of thousands of rounds of ammo.

I did try to take all the items from the body, to see if it would clear the tunnel up, but all the items were transferred to my person, but they were still sitting in the tunnel. I then tried to pick them all up one by one to transfer to Skull, but no go - it was too much and locked up the PC. Now I have one savegame where when I turn around, I can see the artifacts and ammo start to burst from the body I was storing them in - and no other savegames either unfortunately, so I don't know what to do. Maybe I need to get them from the body before I go and retrieve Skull's body? The tunnel only filled with artifacts after I left the tunnel to go and get Skull - but maybe that was just a matter of timing (in the sense had I stayed and watched the body, it may have exploded anyway). And then I have another problem - I have two more bodies there, Wolf (who holds my medkits and other misc items) and the Duty body from the destructible wall at Army Warehouse (who holds all weapons and armours). Will they 'burst their banks' too? I have no idea unfortunately.

Has anyone come across this bug before?

Thanks,

CM

Ok, I may have managed to retrieve the situation. I reloaded the savegame, turned around, and yes - the objects had started to flow from the body. I quickly moved to it, and hit the F key many, many, many times to pick up everything that had fallen out of the body. I then went and grabbed Skull's body, and returned to the tunnel to find that no more items had flowed from any of the bodies. I then moved all the items I had picked up before into Skull's body. Next time I reload STALKER, I will find out I suppose if this has totally worked or not. It better have - my hand and arm is sore from all that F key pressing and mouse double clicking

I still have that nice savegame though where the objects start to burst forth- I think I might keep it. I did have FRAPS running at the time this happened and I did think about hitting the record key - it would have made an awesome video I think, walking towards the tunnel, seeing the objects dancing madly about inside. I contented myself with some screenshots though - with my PC chugging along at 2FPS, I don't think it could have handled a FRAPS video also...

It was awesome. Some piccies I think to illustrate the scene (all pics at 1680x1050, a couple of hundred KB each):

[link]http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xr3da2008042818073246wf0.jpg[/link]
Ok, this first pic is the scene that greeted me when I reloaded that savegame and turned around to face the body. Not too much to worry about there, right? It looks like only a few items (hint: looks can be deceiving!), and only a small area after all...right?

(Proceeds to exit tunnel, walk to Duty outpost, grab Skull's body and return to tunnel)

[link]http://img518.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xr3da2008042817385409gw0.jpg[/link]
This is the scene when I first re-entered the tunnel with Skull's body (PC has been doing 2FPS since the gate where the Freedom guards are, it took a while to walk back to here at that pace). Oops, looks like the problem has grown a little out of control...

[link]http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xr3da2008042817391507qr5.jpg[/link]
A more close up view - yeah, that is a problem all right.

[link]http://img204.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xr3da2008042817433037ag1.jpg[/link]
Now, that is impressive - I had to laugh at how the railway tracks are channelling the items into nice neat piles. Except for the items out of screenshot to the right, they are a little messy.

[link]http://img524.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xr3da2008042817434625tj9.jpg[/link]
And this one I think really gives you a idea of the scale of the problem. Look at all that I would have to pick up - and that is only in one section. There is another section of items to the left and right as well, and remember that my PC is doing 2FPS at this point (so just think how long it would take to pick all that up)! That is Wolf's body right in the middle by the way - his body was not the one that caused all the trouble, Wolf was just someone who got caught in the crossfire!

That savegame is a keeper I think - I just have to get a video of this somehow. The piccies just don't give it that sense of awesome that seeing all those artifacts shimmering and moving do - I'll have to take a chance that my PC can handle the load I think...

That it is And I now have a video of it. My PC actually held up rather well - it would seem that the game chugging along at only 2FPS was actually an advantage. Even with FRAPS recording, my game FPS stayed at 2FPS, so it didn't affect my framerates any. It also helped with the file size immensely - the video is 5:56 long and at 1680x1050 that would normally transfer to a file size of over 10GB (FRAPS records uncompressed video - 2 minutes of recording at that resolution I've found gives you about 4GB worth of file). This video is only 1.06GB (uncompressed, I will encode it with DivX or XviD, and that should bump the file size down nicely and I can make it even smaller by removing the first 4 minutes and then if I wanted, downsizing the resolution). I started recording from the time I reached the Freedom guards at the gate, it took about 4 minutes to reach the entrance to the tunnel (so pretty uninteresting, basically shows how slow it was getting to the entrance) and then a further 2 minutes of moving my view around inside the tunnel to catch all the items The video looks stuttery, but that is because the game was stuttering along at 2FPS (so the video is actually playing at the full 30FPS I had FRAPS set to) - but it does show the items inside the railway tunnel nicely...

*laughing* Only initially, and only 'cause I had to pick-up all those items again, after I'd spent about half an hour double clicking them into those bodies. I do now see the funny side of it - it really does look like a body was stuffed with artifacts and ammo, and a bomb has gone off underneath it, spraying items everywhere One interesting thing I have noticed now on closer inspection - in the first pic I posted, you can see the items starting to leak from the body. That was the body (the Duty guy) in the middle - Wolf was on the left, Screw was on the right. After the items were strewn about the tunnel, I found that the Duty body responsible for the mess had physically moved to the left, so now it was further to the left than Wolf, and thus was the 'new left'. Really reminiscient of the body exploding and being blown over to the left of the tunnel.

I think I will load up that savegame again and just wait around the tunnel and see if it will happen in front of my eyes - I am really curious now as to how that body could physically move all by itself!

I am surprised the game didn't crash at your last screenshot. What a discovery!

Actually, so was I - I was definitely expecting it to bomb out at any moment, game was chugging along at only 2FPS according to FRAPS. It didn't though, I was able (with a bit of patience) to get some nice screenshots and video of it, as well as having the savegame as a keepsake. This has now happened a second time (in a different play through of the game), and luckily this time around I realised what was going to happen and managed to prevent it from doing the same thing (the body had only just started to expel items when I got to it):
