The answer to both questions is: because CoP is newer than SoC.

I've got to disagree with the first statement.

Maybe because developers mastered the engine by the time they started making CoP.

Do you actually believe that? I mean, for me stalker SoC is the most stable. CS is a virtual nightmare, i mean they released like 10 patches for a reason. Cop is more stable than CS... that is true. But the most stable is SoC. But things, get screwd in CoP... it only takes you to enable autosave and goodbye game.

The best scenarios, are in CS... the lightning is amazing. But how are we fixing the game? The game is so messed up... we are going to make things worse.

If we are talking about crashes, all three games are relatively stable when patched.

SoC always crashes in Pripyat after a certain time (known bug).

CS always starts to crash after very long games (a couple of months or more).

CoP crashed a couple of times during my first playthrough, after that I can't remember (I've never played CoP much to begin with).

Nonsense, my CS is about as stable as SoC, and then I've still played CS more than twice as much. I haven't counted the number of crashes in either game, though.

I assume you've patched your copy of CS, run it on adequate hardware and don't use any buggy mods. Also you should disable DX10.

BTW I recall reading that SoC was pretty unstable when new, and needed lots of patches to work. I often get the impression some people are comparing the fully patched version of SoC with unpatched versions of CS.

The game is fine (the first couple of months). What is making things worse, CS mods? That could well be true, but let's not blame CS for that. My CS has always been vanilla.

I have never had problems with all 3 games when fully patched. And they all performed fine.

And Cs almost never crashed on me when fully patched, dunno why ppl trash it, maybe because they played it when released and seen all the crashes and tossed the game away , and trash it months later when they never even tried when developers released new patches.

Lighting? Yes. Optimisation of said lighting? My i5 3570k and 560Ti would like to have a word with whoever made the sunray effects!

You know, the strange thing is, I've never run into this issue, Vanilla or no!

I think at the end of the day, we should all at least be thankful this isn't running on Bethesda's favourite Gamebryo engine. I've had more crashes with modded Fallout 3 (and unmodded Morrowind, and modded AND unmodded Oblivion...) than I have in any attempt to play a (non-Alpha) STALKER game, with or without mods.

I think Tejas Stalker mentioned the details yesterday(?). IIRC it was when you make saves in the Pripyat level and then stay in the level for a while that it crashes.

It's been fixed in mods, though.
