S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC XR_3DA.exe Shortcut CTD

Alright, so I'll keep this as simple as possible. Anytime I launch SoC from the desktop shortcut, the logo thing comes up, goes to the intro screens and then crashes back to desktop. No log, no errors. I can launch it just fine from the XR_3DA in the /bin/ folder. Any ideas? I really need to run from the shortcut because I need to use the command switches "-nointro" and "-noprefetch"

I have mods installed, this is not the cause of the problem.
-
I've tried running the shortcut as an administrator and compatibility mode. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB.

Can you right-click on the XR_3DA in the bin folder and create a shortcut on the desktop from it? XP will allow that, but I don't know about Win 7.

If so, try deleting the current icon and making another.

Nope, still doesn't work. It's worked from the shortcut before, but that was on my old computer; I've re-installed twice and still nothing. It's quite annoying. Is there anyway that I can use the command switches on the XR_3DA in the bin folder, instead of having to make a shortcut?

If it is a new machine it could be that your graphics drivers are a bit much for it. The game engine is getting on a bit and new things frighten it, often into complete withdrawal.

Maybe an older version of the driver would coax it out of its shell.

To be honest I'm no kind of expert here, just parroting stuff I've read and tried myself.

EDIT: I know it sounds like a noob error, but did you leave a single space between the end of the shortcut target and '-nointro'? It does need one.

Try to launch it as for "Windows XP". Right click on icon and Properties->Compability. Or As Administrator (sometimes it is really effective)

@Steely - Yeah, everything is how it should be.

@Punish - I've tried that numerous times and still no luck.

I tried switching the XR_3DA.exe with one from the "STALKER Lost Zone - Armageddon" Mod, but that was a fail.

I'm going to try and re-install one last time, hopefully it'll work.

Actually it probably is. One of the problems of some mods is that they can't show the intro movie/credit stuff, and the workaround is to use "-nointro". You can prove this by renaming gamedata (and maybe replacing any changed .exe or .dll files) and starting a new game.

It might be related to the "(x86)" directory in your 64-bit OS. It might be a permissions issue resulting in a virtual store conflict -- yes, I know you are running as admin, but mods often have their own installer, and it owns the gamedata folder, not you. See my post in this thread:

What is the error at the end of the log file as a result of your shortcut crash? Also, is this a Steam install, a retail DVD install, or what?
