USB mouse freeze - may not be Stalker

I've been happily playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for years, and generally it runs fine.

Yet there is one issue, and it has been bothering me like an earwig laid eggs in my brain; random mouse stutter/freezes. I have not seen this issue in the FAQ, or anywhere else in the forum. I'm posting here because I have difficulty believing that I am the only one affected by this.

My USB Logitech MX 300 mouse will stop responding for a few seconds, or stop entirely until I unplug and replug the USB, and then the mouse works again. This is different from the in-game prefetch stutter. There is no trace of error message in the OS Event Viewer when this happens. I am posting this on Stalker forums because this happens with markedly increasing frequency when I play Shadow of Chernobyl. However, the mouse continues to freeze in Windows after exiting the game

Frequency of these freezes is not static. This has happened 10 times or more within 5 minutes of gameplay. A few weeks ago, the frequency of mouse freezes stopped being noticeable - for a day or two (and I was playing the mod NS/AMK/DMX/DKZ-02 (1.3.2) at the time), and then started again, with no apparent reason for the change in frequency.

I am Comp TIA A+ certified, but I simply have no idea what can be causing this problem. BIOS updates have no affect. There is no option to use different mouse drivers with this mouse. I am trying to use different mouse controllers, but that testing is still ongoing.

I´m certainly no authority, but

is the USB-stick by any chance hot/warm?

I sometimes experience poor mouse-response on that account.. have no cure though, except for the obvious: remove the stick and let it cool off.

Good lcuk!

My Razer Diamondback recently started doing this on a number of games and then windows in general. It passed away shortly after.

Replaced with a Mircosft sideweinder X3 and all no issues at all now.

Could be your mouse is about to give up the ghost
