If you mean you've just gone to the NPP from Pripyat and you have 4 seconds left on the timer, either run extremely fast to the entrance of the reactor 4 building, or restart by using the last autosave.

You can avoid the timer entirely - just don't cross the bridge when you first arrive there. Go to your left and get over the fence near the pipes. Run along the road, watching the helicopters as you go - they won't shoot at you - until the pipes on the right of the road end in a small building. There you'll see the wall around the NPP compound turn 90 degrees. Follow it and you'll come to the main building. You can go along the front of the building and jump down to get to the door into the sarcophagus. The timer will not have been triggered, so there will be no blowout.

my auto save is all the way back to the redforest. Is the NPP the end of the game? or should I just start over at red forest?

Your most recent autosave should be from the transition from Pripyat to the NPP. That would have overwritten the autosave from Red Forest to Pripyat.

Once inside the sarcophagus there are several possible 'endings'. If you approach the Monolith and ask a question you will get one of five 'false' endings. If you instead find the code-locked door and open it with the decoder from the hotel in Pripyat you will be faced with a choice - one way you end the game there, the other leads to several hours of further gameplay.

Welcome to the GSC Forums!

Don't rely on Quick or Auto Saves alone. They overwrite each other
and if you replace your last good save with a bad one you're screwed.
Always, always, always make frequent Manual Saves. You name them.
Make them before leaving a level and after arriving in a new one. Before
you venture into an Anomaly to get an Artifact and after when you have it.
Before you participate in a task, battle or meeting with an NPC and after you
have survived the encounter with your loot, reward or newly assigned task/job.

Manual saves are good advice, I've had corrupted saves before from using the quick save and load system. The only downside to making manual saves ( if you can call it one ) is choosing which to delete or backup.. and hoping there wasn't something back in Cordon you wanted to do after deleting a 'justsavednimble.sav'.

Thanks for all the responses.

I went back to the red forest and just gonna start over from there. bummer , but what do you do. This game is great though, looking forward to playing the other two. Just for kicks, which one does everyone like the most?

Favorite?

I've heard that Clear Sky is a bit of a bastard child of the series, but it's my favorite, even with the funky faction wars. I liked that it added in weapon and suit repair and upgrades. I know there's mods that do that for the first one, Clear Sky is still my favorite though.

It's really hard to choose a favorite because each of the Games has
some unique features that you can focus on for maximum enjoyment.
Generally the first Game people are exposed to has a way of being #1.

Yep and that's why I believe CS is my favourite (which is why i'm disappointed I can't get it running, damn tages) I know the others have better features, (SoC with it's A-life and atmosphere, CoP with it's overall polish) but something about CS just draws me to it more than the other two (and that was a completely unpatched version), that and I love its red forest.
