[Rel] NightSkies

NightSkies is my attempt to add a bit more realism to the nights in Stalker. I figured that the several hundred square kilometer area around Chernobyl should be mostly devoid of light pollution, and thus at night we should have a pretty decent view of stars and the milky way on occasion (when it is not cloudy)

Along the way to making this 'Night Sky' I fiddled with the weather_default.ltx, adding all new lighting, weather and some previously unused sky textures. I also added complete day night cycles. You can stand in one spot and watch the shadows slowly shift around you. Finally, I added an extra texture with a slightly more spectacular dawn.

I have not tested this with anything other than my own setup. I have most of my settings quite high, including full dynamic lighting and global illumination, so I am not sure what this will look like for people on lesser settings. Hopefully decent.

Anyways, enjoy!

*edit* updated to version 1.01 -removed sky rotation

Why did you remove the sky rotation? Does that mean the sky is not dynamic anymore?

I know the one in the defualt is not, but someone did say there was a file for the dynamic one like in the beta somewhere. Does this mod activate it?

I removed it because it served no purpose other than to add some slight motion to the background clouds. Doing so bungled up some of the other sky alignments I had set up. Or at least spoiled their implementation.

To usefully or realistically activate the 'dynamic' sky rotation would require creating a set of sky textures which all depict the sun in the exact same location (horizontally) in the sky. The default textures do this to a certain extent, but not well enough for me, and not all of them.

So I am making a new set. Once I finish (which I more or less have) I will add in full rotation.

However, the actually effect will be barely noticable. Which is probably why it is not done in Vanilla.

Nevertheless, for realism sticklers, NightSkies (or something under a new name) will have a sun (or it's glare through clouds) that you can track across the sky, and a milkyway band that slowly winds it's way through the night. Oh, and the textures will be 4 to 16 times larger than the originals. Stay posted.
