My personal compiled bug list

1.) Upon entering the bar in the Bar Area, the bouncer by the entrance constantly repeats "I said come in, don't stand there" when the player is standing within 5 meters of him. It is very annoying, so I would be appreciative if the amount of time it takes for him to repeat it were greatly reduced, or even better, just have him only say it once each time the player enters the bar.

2.) In menus where there is a scroll-bar (when for example placing items into your stash, or taking them out), the scroll bar flips to the top after one double-click. This is extremely annoying if you have lots of loot in the bottom: You need to grab the scroll bar each time and scroll down again, which is nerve-recking. Also, the scroll bar itself doesn't function very well....

3.) .... Because when you grab it, you only need to go 1cm to the side of the bar for it to stop scrolling. Like this:

Some may consider these 'bugs' small and insignificant, but it's the little things that form the entity.

4.) New Mercenaries spawn every single time after I have left and re-entered the Wild Zone in the Bar Area. It doesn't matter whether I re-enter immediately or after 2 weeks; they always spawn at the same places each time, and in quite large amounts. This is very annoying if you have to make multiple journeys there, when for example looting. It is also unrealistic, and takes away from the immersion quite a lot. I also somehow have a feeling that this "bug" isn't only limited to that particular area. Please do something about this, preferably making the respawning of NPCs be independent of whether or not the player has exited the area, and only have it rely on the respawn timer.

5.) The repetition of certain lines of speech extends far beyond just the bouncer mentioned first in this post. Please fix this, as it's very immersion-breaking to hear "get out of here stalker, we don't let just any loser go through", "get out of here stalker, we don't let just any loser go through", "get out of here stalker, we don't let just any loser go through", etc. etc. again and again. (This particular line of speech gets repeared by the Duty Soldiers in front of the gate to the Bar Area in the Garbage Area)

6.) Sometimes NPC's block doorways, and if they do not move, there is nothing you can do about it except shoot them (which you shouldn't have to do to get them to move), or reload a previous savegame because you cannot push the NPC even the slightest bit by walking against him in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Why do these types of bugs have to pollute this otherwise brilliant game?

7.) When trying to sneak, you are detected by the enemy. You then try to load a savegame where you have not yet been detected, but your enemy/enemies will act as if he/they have seen you! Even though you just loaded a save where they have not yet done so!

8.) Flickering Shadows, blocky shadows - Both of which were introduced by patch v1.0003. Please fix. For more information and proof that the problem is widespread, see here: https://www.gsc-game.com/main.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr&thm_page=1&thm_id=8838&sec_id=12

9.) Prefetching is still fubared. I tried to play the game with prefetching enabled after installing patch v1.0003, but it hard-locked my PC. I then applied the "-noprefetch" target parameter tweak and haven't had a crash since. This problem is also very widespread. 10.) Some monsters show up as being "friendly" after having killed them.

11.) Enemies sometimes shoot through walls.

12.) In some maps, there are farmhouses which have ladders you can climb to reach the top floor of the farm house. Going up is not a problem, but sometimes there is a wooden ledge blocking admission to the ladder when trying to get down. The player then needs to jump out of the farmhouse, and sometimes even this doesn't work. Please fix this collision bug.

13.) A small spelling error spotted in the "Duty Illusion" Local Folklore diary entry: In one part of the entry there is written: "...that'll be the end of me" I though, even though it should be thought with a "t" in the end. See image below.

Some sort of memory leak is present in the game. Doesnt matter where in the game you are. The fps goes from fine to lower, lower and lower. A vid_restart are required like every minute and thats annoying. I have tried to change graphic settings which doesnt help. I have read about others that have the same problem. Some say its because you have over 2gb of RAM installed.

Im running the game with an Radeon x1950Pro with latest drivers, 3gb of RAM and Windows Vista x64.

What about Vista compatability? Stalker runs fine on my PC apart from the 'crash to desktop' fault. This occurs when trying to save the game.

Only Sky is rendered after opning cinematics

Here is the problem I am having.

I am running Windows Vista 64bit, AMD Athlon 64 X2, 6000 (3ghz) processor, 4Gb of DDR2 800Mhz memory, EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640mb GDDR3 and with the latest 158.18 driver. Both patches 1.001 and 1.003 were installed. The game version is US Retail release.

When I start the game the menus work fine, then the opening cinematic with the “death truck” and Sidorovich guy work fine until the actual game loads. Then the strangest thing happens: the only thing that gets rendered in the game is the sky with clouds and the HUD items. There are no walls, not ground, and nothing else is around me except blue sky with clouds. Sounds work fine too, but I guess they are kind of useless if I am just hanging in the air with nothing around me but a blue sky… Using “un-patched version” yields the same result….

If needed, I could send a screenshot.

Im running Stalker on an Athlon 2800, 1gb ddr 3200, geforce 6600gt, Audigy 2, Win xp Pro (with all the patches).

All drivers are up to date, no temp problems at all.

When running Stalker (and stalker only) my pc randomly crashes, hardlocks and reboots. This doesnt happens in any of my other games.
Im sorry I can´t be more especific, but the reboot prevents any kind of memory error check out. Im sure it must be some kind of memory leak.

I did run several test program on my comp, none of them showed any kind of memory, cpu, psu, video or OS errors.

UPDATED: If I run Stalker in windowed mode, it won´t crash, nor my comp reboot. Been playing for a couple of hours, so far so good

On the other hand, I noted some of the problems descripted by Decane, the worst of them (for me) is the sudden awareness of nearby enemies when you quickload, it makes impossible to sneak!

I have the next problem, I don't know if the problem is this ot not.
When I have many Items in the stash and when I entering the map
moving in same plase the game freeze for at less 40 seconds or a minute after that the game return to run, this happend me in
each map that I have many itmes colected in the stash.
I think that the problem is this.
The 2 problem is same time Yantar crash and I think is in the
respawn NPC.
The 3 problem is continuisly Priptya crash and imposible to play
in this map.
All this problems are with patch 1.0001 and 1.003.

And please do the sun going from east to west
this give light changes like a real life and change the light scenario.

Solution

Ok i found this on Nvidia forum, ironically...

The guys have been able to solve this by disabling AA override in Nvidia Control panel. Hopefully this will be solved in one of upcoming patches.

I have also noted the same thing as Gilgamesh Uruk, about the long pauses in certain spots. One of those spots is, for me, right before/after (depends which way you look at it) the bus not far from the Bandit camp in the Garbage Area. It's always at that spot when I get a long, perhaps 20-second long "lock-up". My PC eventually recovers from it, but it is concerning nonetheless.

1) ATI issues need to be sorted. Too many people are having crashes/hardlock up's regardless of the quality of their card.

Mine is an ATI x1950, and was playable until I upgraded to Catalyst 7.4. Went back to drivers that DID work (7.1) and game doesn’t work at all.

I don't buy the "card overheating" story being put across in the forum. Too many ATI users are reporting problems, and doesn’t explain why I can play other games at Max settings with no issues and the bigger fact my game USED to work on max settings and Full Dynamic lighting.

Error message we are all getting says: error[ 1450] : Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. People are reporting ‘some’ success with using Catalyst 7.3, but isn’t working for everyone.

2) Before the problem I got the game ran fine apart from occasional texture tearing, often noticeable in the sky. Again similar problems have been raised by the ATI community.

3) Agree with Decane. Repetition of spoken lines is clearly bugged. I go into the Bar and turn my speakers off! I agree the example he gave was annoying, but I have a better one: "Come over here Stalker, I may have information that may be of use to you". Even if you pay him to give you all the information he has he WONT SHUT UP!

4) Agree with Decane on point 6 and 7 as well. Blocking doorways is a nuisance, and the reloading a save game to find your enemies are alerted to your presence are problems I’ve encountered many times.

5) Minor Gripe: Certain missions repeating themselves too often. The amount of times I passed through the Garbage to have the Bandits attacking the camp mission is daft. The bodies of the bandits at the gates must be in their hundreds! Either make the bandits smart enough to try a different attack direction, or reduce the frequency of attacks (removing the old corpses as well).
Also, the defenders of the camp don't move to repel the bandits. They stay near the rail carriage in the building. The amount of times I’ve single-handed saved them I don’t know...

==> hey buddy, the green arrow has nothing to do with quests, it means that the weapon in customized, improved at least in one of its characteristics (rate of fire, accuracy...).

ps: when it the game freezes, it doesnt work after any period of time.. if im lucky i get the desktop, if im not, a black/blue screen or some funky scary effects with the screen flashing colors.. xD

With patch v10003, I still get CTD in the Cordon area unless I use the -noprefetch tweak. Also with or without the tweak I am unable to continue past the point of the army warehouses. I also get a crash there about 5-10 minutes into game play. Often from pressing ESC or quick saving. Even did it once when accessing the inventory.

Obviously there are plenty more bugs, but the above crashing issues on my Vista 32 bit system are all I care about at the moment. All I want to do is complete the game from start to finish. The devs should have clearly stated on there website that this game does NOT run on the vista OS. I hope they are working on this and have not moved onto their next STALKER project. CTD’s should come first above all else on the bugs to be fixed list. MP can be fixed at a later date. Just get the single player game up and running.

Most map icons for secret stashes, and some quest icons, don't update properly after they've been cleaned out. I can get stashes to update after dropping an item in, taking all, repeating if it didn't work. I still have the target on my map to kill the agent from the freedom's snitch quest. Same target on the bandit camp in cordon to kill the leader.

Some quests are buggy. I got one recently on entering the freedom's base zone to kill bandits at the agroprom, with an icon where smartass is. On my way to the merc camp I spotted 2 enemies at the farmstead and killed them for the bandit quest complete(return to Lukash).

Defend the border quest: After wiping out the mass of monolithians, a new quest pops up a few minutes later to defend against the next wave. The next wave never comes, but if I zone over the quest will update and I can return to finish it. This quest popped up a 2nd and maybe a 3rd time on later entering the zone with no new monolithians and the same way to fix it.

Destroy the bloodsucker lair: I like to explore ahead before taking on too many quests, so when I got there I killed all the bloodsuckers. When I returned for the quest later on, there were no bloodsuckers at the tower and the quest couldn't be completed.

That's all I can think of at the moment

Update: Protect the stalkers at the Agroprom quest will pop up after a certain amount of time in the army warehouse zone. Target at the junk/fire barrel area next to the village where smartass is. About 10 seconds later it's complete with return to Lukash.

And I've noticed people have been dying around the fire barrels. I'm guessing they get too close? Sometimes I have to give them a medkit.

This is a great thread - I hope the game developers are reading it and making sure these things are fixed in the next patch(es).

First of all, the second post on page 1 (Decane's) were all ones I would have hit upon:


--The bouncer at the bar is incredibly annoying to listen to, as are other NPCs who constantly repeat things - the Duty announcer over the Bar loudspeaker, the guy in the Bar who has information to buy, etc.


--The scroll bar for menus always goes back to the top after a double-click, meaning that if I need to move 500 rounds of ammo from the bottom of a list, I have to scroll every time. Doesn't help that (a) the scroll bar itself is useless (as Decane described so well), (b) using a mouse's scroll wheel is still terribly slow, and (c) sometimes it moves ammo in as small as 3-round groups per double-click.


--NPCs get in the way, and you can't move them. You literally have to shoot or drop a grenade to get them to move! Yet they can push you around, and usually end up moving you into the line of fire during combat. THIS DRIVES ME NUTS!


--Enemies still shoot through walls. Hell, I've seen them walk through them after a while.


--Also, as Blazter pointed out, there is most definitely a memory leak, because the game gets slower as I play, and a restart (or just dropping to the menu for a few seconds) will fix it temporarily for me.


--And as corestandeven mentioned at the end of page 1, the repetition of certain missions is getting annoying. I've had to help the Stalkers at the Garbage almost a dozen times in my current game, and I'm just getting to the Red Forest! And yeah, they always attack using the same route, making it terribly unrealistic and not at all challenging.



...Now for the big one I've come across - I have never seen this before playing with the 1.0003 patch. I just arrived at the Red Forest for the first time with the new patch installed, and am finding that roughly half of all of the Monolith soldiers aren't responding to me being there. I can walk up to them and watch them breathe (which looks nice, I must say!), but beyond that, they do nothing. I can even kill them, and others who are in the same state within close range will refuse to act. Here is a screenshot of one such occurrence:

I reloaded the map, and found it to be the same. Gotta say, this really ruins the 'epic-ness' of fighting through them to get to the base, what with them just standing around. (For the record, in case anyone is wondering from the visible HUD, I'm using the Reality Enhancement 4.5 Mod)

A further problem here is that with these immobile NPCs, they do not drop their weapons when killed. I'm finding that even with unaffected NPCs, many times they do not drop the weapon. Instead, it stays connected with their hand, usually clipping through the ground. I do not get a prompt to pick it up if I get close, and a lot of times I miss out on valuable weaponry. Here is an example:

I would also like to add that the Reality Enhancement Mod has a lot of features that I would really like to see added to the actual game. The level of darkness at night, for example, is MUCH more realistic, and makes things many times more challenging. The standard nighttime is so bright that I usually don't need the flashlight! Also, the money system is more balanced, so I don't end up with hundreds of thousands before even reaching Pripyat.

The other AI issue I've found is that NPCs are far too sensitive to enemies in the vicinity. So far I have only seen this happen when I have either accepted or finished a mission involving helping a group of people kill another group. The three places this applies to are: (1) helping Bullet save his friend at the Valley, (2) helping the Stalkers at the Cordon defend against the Mercs, and (3) getting involved in the Freedom/Duty fight at the Warehouses.
**In the case with Bullet, the moment both Bandits are dead, he immediately begins firing at the nearby building, and ends up going around killing everyone he finds until he ends up dead - this means I can never get my reward for helping (and the guy we save runs away immediately, so I can't activate the other quest either!). Even if I run ahead and kill every Bandit in the nearby building, he'll just run to the other building to the North.
**In the case with the Cordon, once all the Mercs are dead, all of the remaining Stalkers immediately walk (not run, oddly enough) to the Military outpost to the South, and are slaughtered. Again, the guy I need to talk to goes along, and I can't talk to him to get the reward. What's worse is that the Military responds by sending waves of guys to the town, and at that point everyone (except the Trader) is screwed.
**In the case with the Warehouse map, I don't know where to start. Freedom attacks Duty automatically once I arrive, whether or not I approach Duty myself. If I'm lucky, they don't attack at the start, but its rare. When I talk to Max to get the actual attack started, all of the troops suddenly go into 'alerted mode' and slowly approach the part of the wall that Duty would later blow up. I've checked, and there are no Duty guys there when it happens. Then all of Freedom bunches up behind the wall until their guns clip through the wall, at which point they start shooting at the Duty camp. This entire map drives me crazy, all due to these bizarre AI interactions!


--I'd also like to mention that I'm finding even MORE bodies by campfires than ever. Literally, there are piles of bodies waist-high, and many times there are plot-important people found inside. What the hell?


--The hand model is flawed for several of the guns. At the moment, I know of the SPAS-12 shotgun, where the hand is suffering from a lack of smoothing and the wrist seems to have a spline-based issue (I'm positive its a spline issue... I've seen things just like it with my own modeling work).


--Many of the animals/mutants I have killed are listed as "friendly" when I check their bodies. Weird.


--Mercs keep spawning in the Bar area, which is weird as is, but if I fire at them, I'm immediately attacked by every Duty soldier and Loner that's near.


--Spawns in general are still strange. I've seen Bandits spawn in the field just by the northern exit of the Cordon area, which is impossible, since there are neutral Stalkers holding the checkpoint. I've also seen Zombies spawn at the Warehouse entrance to the Red Forest, which makes no sense since (a) there are no Zombies south of the Red Forest, and (b) if there were, they would not have made it past the Freedom checkpoint!


--Speaking of Zombies, I keep seeing them run away from grenades - and they run faster than I've seen any NPC run! This is just weird.


--My reputation randomly goes to "terrible".


That's all I can think about right now, though I am sure there are more things I'll be posting here soon enough.

Sound Issues

I'm noticing some missing sounds in 1.0003 that were in 1.0001. The rain sound sometimes disappears. Also I'm not hearing people sneak up on me all the time either (no footsteps) I also have noticed crackles in the audio when opening lockers and other random times. I have an X-Fi Extreme Gamer and I've done the OpenAL Fix which worked wonders in 1.0001....1.0003 seems to have brought the issue back

Another bug here: sometimes you can grab things from locked lockers (when you approach, some items briefly appear on screen and you can get them by pressing F).

Shadow problems

The sunshadows are not responding like they should do in the envoiment. I can see that some shadows are there because a house is nearby, but it isnt positioned to the object due to the sun, its moving around as a walk or turn my head. and you can see it in the screenshots

Shadows are also flashing. Like where there is a fire and the shadows that fire casts, they are not on the right spons and the keep flashing. nothing is synchronized

ive also noticed that the shadow problems isnt there when i start a new game, but they tend to show up after ive played for a while in the game story, or load a game where ive been playing for some time.

another bug, how many times have i had the perfect head shot lined up, for a stupid NPC TO PUSH ME OUT THE LINE OF SIGHT! thats annoying you cant push back you just have to get out of their way. why should i move, im about to blow one of your enemies away and your making my job difficult. i mean come on.

I just discovered that the memory leak problem doesnt exist in those areas that are inside, like the underground base. It seems that the problem only exist outside in the nature.

Another annoyance

This may not quite fit into the description of a "bug", but it is annoying nevertheless, so I might as well let myself be heard. Sometimes the Barkeep fails to walk up to me when I approach him at the Bar, and if this happens he is usually too far away for me to speak to him. Now, I'm sure anyone can understand that this is extremely annoying when for example doing a timed mission for him.... Anyway, could some kind soul at GSC please create a script which would have him move towards the player each and every time the player comes to his vicinity? Thank you.

EDIT: The shadow issues should really be taken seriously by the way. I just encountered the most annoying shadow corruption I've ever seen. Take a look, and no, my hardware is NOT overheating.... This kind of corruption only started occurring after I applied the v1.0003 update.

Refilling Stashes. You can revisit stashes and keep on collecting items and some stashes are never full.Plus the pda marker doesnt disapear.

So are the refilling stashes a bug or not? and are gsc going to fix this anytime soon e.g 1.0004?

I think the best way to overcome this, is for all stashes to be full so if you find a hidden stash ur rewarded.The pda markers should have been there to help you find them (if you needed help )not to triger a stash to fill.

1. Constantly repeating NPC voices, i.e the doorman at the Bar, the "my information may be of use to you stalker" guy and the scientist at Yantar mr "hello, hello" himself.

2. Army warehouses is severly broken for me, if i touch the escape key here I am going to CTD often with no bug trap. Just straight out program termination. (Vista 32bit). If i run through the zone as fast as I can to the next one i have a 50/50 chance of making it through. otherwise it could and does crash at random.

3. Multiplayer, If i click on a server to join it will actually go into the loading process and sit there untill right at the end before it tells me about the version mismatch, can we have it check the version before loading anything else please.

4. there needs to be a slider for the GUI mouse speed?, navigating around the inventory is just painfull.

5. Allow me to specify how many rounds of ammo i want to buy, clicking to buy/sell is annoying, have you any idea how long it takes to sell all the pistol ammo that piles up as you roam around. click, click, click, click arrrrgh.

6. Add information to the gun data that states if you can fit a scope to it or not, perhaps mention what type of scope slot it has if any.

7. Seconding the trapped by unmoveable NPC bandwagon, the ammount of times i have had to reload a save because of being trapped astounds me.

8. Add the ability for NPC to repair weapons and armour, having to mod to do this is silly.

Oh boy, Atem is back!

Even if DX9 is unplayable with current hardware, it is working and I can play a few minutes to compare scenes. And what I want to report is that we don't see our own shadow in DX9 but it is so obvious that you must already know that fact.

I played a complete mission no crash with patch 1.001 then took a break for 2 weeks (gf was happy!) and when 1.003 I took another turn.

All I can say is that I wanted to play it a bit faster, not following normal path. I think the game was designed to be fully playable that way, right? Well, I realized that after many tries that I would not be able to climb the hill and reach next loading screen that bring us in Pripyat because I didn't have the psi helmet so I headed back to help Professor Kruglov reach mobil lab but once I press F to talk to him after the tunnel the game crash to desktop. Just like the game realize I skipped some parts or missions and that condition is unknown and crash. Be sure also to check soon the video I made of Kruglov acting strange. He's doing a non-stop run.

Finally, maybe not a bug, just a feature where time was missing (!) for you to implement that in the AI but look at that video I made http://stalker.heroesradio.com/ViewVideo.php?Video=Resources/Users/Killing_staying_neutral.wmv&Width=640&Height=480 and see what (does not) happen when you shoot a barrel close to a friend. My complaint (not to mention the damned known ATI problems) is the following:

you've introduced some 16x9 video modes in version 1.003, but the aspect ratio isn't taken into account. All things that are supposed to be round (circles in the rifle scope view, for example) are still distorted and oval in 1680x1050.

clean install, patched to 1.003, win xp sp2

In Warehouse area (possibly other areas)- some bodies do not give stash info at first, but did when I leave the area and come back.

Unable to complete the Freedom mission to Kill the Duty team (Skulls team) - went to talk to Skull after initial ambush upon first entering area; got the kill the tower sniper mission.
Walked into freedom base, talked to guard at gate.
Talked to then guard inside base; spoke to freedom leader;
Spoke to Max; followed Freedom to Duty people

Started killing the Duty people both before and after Freedom engaged them; wiped out Duty - everyone but Max returns to base.

Waited half an hour - Wolf turns up, then eventually a Duty soldier with the custom Tunder (takes AK ammo) - killed him and mission complete - but Max died in anomoly during my wait

Reloaded save - killed same soldier when he reappeared - no misson complete - reloaded several different saves to no avail. Waited an hour and killed a second wave of duty - still no complete.

I also experience the following reported bugs - annoying repetition of speaking, esp in bar; map icons not updating after stashes emptied; stashes being empty even when marked on map; AI occasionally not caring if i shoot comrades in front of them

Shooting through objects

The enemy is able to shoot through walls, concrete, and pretty much anything else that I take cover behind. This really has ruined the game experience for me since it seems that almost everytime I take a position behind and object, be it a wall or bus or cement block, the enemy is able to shoot through and kill me.

Sad to say that I'll have to shelve this game until it's fixed.

Wolf Seems to go AWOL. I found him in the military base area with a few other stalkers.

Wish I had a better screenshot but this one shows two bugs in one. First Wolf wandering off after first mission (still could ask him for the destroy the boar lair quest) and the second is AI spawning in fire barrels.

Wolf DEFINITELY spawned in the barrel though I watch to my dismay as he walked out of the barrel calmly and then sat on the ground.. on fire. He lived though.

Annoying CTD

I get an instant CTD if I happen to push a breakable crate into a vortex anomaly. The easiest place to see this is just after you transition from the bar to the wild territory. There is a small house/room raised up from the ground to the right of the sniper nest with 2 anomalies under it. The room has 2 crates in it which can be easily pushed into the anomalies. The crash happens just as the box is deleted, but hasn't been replaced by its fragments.

Other stalkers pushing you into line of fire. E.g Find a spot hiding behind a crate another stalker comes to hide in the same spot and pushes you out of the way!

You should be able to push stalkers! This way they wont push you into oncoming fire and you can move them out of door ways.

2 with Night vision enabled.

When in night vision and you change of area (loading screen) it is no more activated after the load.

When in night vision and you collect another armor on the floor, it is no more activated. I have a video of that.

Another one: NPC's (enemies such as bandits, military, etc.) sometimes spawn right in front of the player, or somewhere within the player's close vicinity. This is extremely annoying! NPC's should:

a) Spawn more seldom altogether. Even though this issue was supposedly already fixed in patch v1.0001, it's not - the NPC spawning is still way too fast. It should take at least 3 DAYS (i.e. 3x [day--> night] ) for new enemies to spawn, not 2 hours! Excuse my heavy use of exclamation marks, but this is truly frustrating.

b) Spawn out of the player's sight, preferrably somewhere very far away.

its even worse once your inside the power plant... i had guys spawn right behind me with some really nasty weapons.... makes it somewhat of a challenge when your in the middle of a hallway and both ends has enemy.... even though you had just completely cleaned out the area behind you :S.... Napkin Squirrel thinks getting shot from both sides is lots of fun!

The new patch made no difference with my particular bug. When I rescue the Duty guy, it crashes as he walks away. I tried following him around for a while and it didn't crash, so it appears to be something to do with the distance between us.

Here's the saved game if it's of any use. If I turn in the opposite direction he's travelling the game will disappear within 45 seconds. No log is written. Could just be my system, who knows...

Well today I thought I would play this game and it's acting up again. Hence this polygon flashing is preventing me from playing.

I think I wasted my money



If you have your video card over-clocked, then set it back to normal and see if the flashing rain polygons are gone.

I'm using 160.03 (beta) and haven't had the flashing polygon problem like I did with 97.92.

Something else to consider. I played through the entire game with the release version with very little bugs or problems. Versions 1.0001 and 1.0003 give me frequent CTD's on transitioning to new areas.

I >think< that switching to binoculars prior to entering the transition point may help. I'm still working that theory.

BTW, I'm running it on an 8800GTX. Other cards may not have the problem.

Fire causes extreme stutter in Dynamic object lighting and full dynamic lighting

I have noticed several people that also have this problem. The fps goes from 45-50 fps to 2-3 fps when looking at fire or fire barrels.

I recently upgraded from a 7600gs to a 7900gs and this problem occurred.
when i do rs_stats and look at fire barrels my dynamic lighting count goes from 10-20 up to 80-100, and 200 static lights. There is no stutter at all if i do not look in areas that do not have fire or fire barrels.

Sounds very strange, but true. PLEASE SOLVE THIS PROBLEM!

Here is what i am running:
P4 - 3.06Ghz w/HT
1 GB Corsair Ram
160GB 7200 rpm HD
XFX 7900 GS 256MB
93.71 Drivers
500 Watt PSU
SF Audigy audio card
all current drivers for MB, and sound card.

Here are my settings:
Resolution: 1028x720 (same stutter at all resolutions)
Full Dynamic lighting
No AA or AF
All sliders at 2/3 to top
Sun Shadows off
Grass Shadows off
60hz refresh off

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet. I've only noticed it happen once so far, and am curious whether it has happened to others. Once when I killed a top 20 stalker (an expert Bandit), his name did not get removed from the list. I've seen many other top 20 stalkers come and go, but this fellow remained in the list long after he had died. Usually it updates right away.

He keeps dyingon me in the Army Warehouse.
As soon as I get to the hill he is on the other side of, he spawns into a campfire and dies. Annoying since I fail a mission due to this and no more Wolf.

WTF!!!!!

This isn't a bug, but bugs me more than anything!

1.Release of a game with OVER SIXTY bugs.22nd of March release date.
2.2 patches within the 2 months.Wich basicaly fix nothing of value in sp.
3.NO FEED BACK WHAT SO EVER FROM GSC (DIRECTLY) concerning status of patches.

To buy a game and be kept waiting over 2 moths to play it is Inexcusable.
ADVICE : Fix stalker before making number 2 and test it before you release it .You may keep more customers that way. ME BEING ONE OF THEM.

Happens while loading some kind of saves = currently I'm at Yantar but it used to happen from Agroprom. Sometimes save (or quicksave) becomes to be corrupted. It was also happening with 1.00001 ver.
No matter if i use static nor dynamic lighting. No matter if I use "-noprefetch" option - w/o this it's just CDT.

Are we sure they read? I kindly asked anyone from the team to let me know when they have seen/grabed the video so I can remove it and I never got a reply so either they have not read here yet or they don't want to reply privatly to me.

In some circumstances I understand they cannot reply to eveyone but this time I was here to help and just asked for a quick note telling it's in their hand now, whatever what they plan to do with it.

I just encountered a very nasty hard-lockup at Yantar, prior to which I had gotten a strange sound problem: The sfx volume would be much lower than usual even though I hadn't touched the slider. This issue even infected a previous save game when I tried to load it. I then proceeded in restarting the game to see if it would help, but to no avail. Later my PC hard-froze and I had to reboot it from the power button (which I HATE doing). I went into my x_ray crash log and the last line included an insufficient system resources error. I have a 1024mb pagefile for goodness's sakes! Anyway, I just thought that I should inform someone, so I did. I hope GSC investigates this issue, though it might just be that my RAM ran out and hence got a random crash.

Hey, thanks for the insight. I'm afraid I made a small error in my post; I actually have 1536mb of virtual memory (changed it some time ago, forgot I'd done so), and I'll be damned if 1Gb of RAM 1,5Gb of virtual memory ran out. :/ That means STALKER was using 2,5Gb of RAM! If that is the case (which it appears to be since my hardware isn't overheating), then there must be a memory leak somewhere, as noted in a previous post. Snorks' sounds, huh? That's strange... Would this mean that increasing the sound cache size in the user.ltx file would help alleviate these symptoms at Yantar?

A Few More...

1.) While playing today, I completed the first part of the "Defend the Garbage Stalker camp" quest. I had eliminated all the bandit threats and received the "go collect your reward" message. I then proceeded in loading a previous savegame where I had not yet killed all the bandits, yet I still got the "go collect your reward" message immediately after loading. The game-events are infectuous! Fix this please! This very same sort of thing happens with sneaking: when you are detected in one save, then you load a previous save, you are detected again even though you shouldn't yet be.

2.) Why has my reputation suddenly changed from "excellent" to "terrible" when I haven't even killed any neutrals? Only random creatures and mutants..

3.) When I was in the Bar Area today, some random merc invaded the area and guns started talking. Anyway, one Duty member started shooting at me, and when aiming at him, my crosshair was red (so he was hostile towards me). I had not done anything to provoke such hostility, and in hopes of fixing the problem, I loaded a previous save. no problems with that one, the siren still went off because of the merc, but no-one was hostile towards me. Please investigate.

Stalker uses just over 1gig of ram plus windows services. Does not matter if you have 200 gigs of virtual memory. If you have to use virtual memory (it's on the hard drive) any game will stutter.
I have a computer with 2gigs ram and NO pagefile. Runs Stalker great.

i have a theory on the reputation randomly going to terrible... i've noticed that you lose rep for killing friends... i have also noticed that some dead mutants info screens say they are friendly... therefore i figure you lose rep until the mutants change back to being enemys?

Playing on 1.0003, of course.

Here's a strange one: You can morph one ammo type into another.

Here's how I was doing it:
- I had 14 normal (SS) rounds in my GP-37, and 60 armor piercing rounds in my inventory.
- With GP-37 active I go to a different map.
- When the new map loads the 14 normal rounds turned into 14 armor piercing rounds. If I unload the GP-37 I'll have 74 armor piercing rounds in my inventory.

Speculations:
Probably happens when your current clip is less than full and there are rounds of different type for that weapon in your inventory.

4.) I encountered yet another major bug today. I was doing a few quests at Agroprom, one of which was a 'bandit elimination' quest, and the other one was a 'defend the camp against bandits' quest, both of which I had received from the Barkeep. So, anyway, I did the quests, and the proceeded into the Agroprom underground tunnels to pursue my journey of meeting the Doctor. Once I got underground, I got a message "destroy the bandits at Agroprom", which was a mission for the first trader. Well, after I had dealt with everything underground, I went back up only to find that I was unable to complete the quest because all the bandits were already taken care of (since I had just done the same quest for the Barkeep)... Please make it so that the undertaking of a quest like this is only possible after the game has checked that a sufficient amount of killable NPCs exist in the game world. This is one of the worst bugs this game has, and should be fixed ASAP.

i have no trouble with a few missions failing or being unable to complete.
like in army warhouses lukash gives you the kill boars and fleshes / bring a part of an boar missions which should complement each other. BUT I killed all the boars in whole warehouses and could not find an boar leg and the mission failed after one day.....
i think it's good that some things just don't work out like planned .... it's the ZONE

Probably a repeat post... I didn;t check, but surely repetition is the point of bug-catching?

Anyways, evry time I head into The Army Warehouse / Freedom Camp district, Duty soldiers return to their spawn and check those dead freedom bodies.

Even if I've saved one of them with a medkit, they re-appear there, a green dot on my minimap...

Yet another few bugs to report...

1.) When hugging the wall near the first trader's layer, this is what happens at a particular spot:

Try it out for yourself if you don't believe me. Just hug the wall all the way down to the trader's door and you'll notice that at one point your screen will flash white.

The "c" in "controller" is circled because it should be a capital letter ("C" ) like all the rest of the mutant names.

i have the same light bug and the bandits quests in agropom are also bugued, the one that i have to kill the rapist in the underground (duty quest) i see the icon but no rapist there

Bodies disappear...

As the title says, bodies sometimes either:
a) Fall through the floor or
b) Just disappear for what could be a short time or an extremely long time. I've experienced this especially often with Snorks.

... And blood decals are glitchy...

Take a look what happens as I walk towards the static blood decal in the ditch before the Duty barricade at Rostok (Bar area):

Listings of a rambling person ;p

Ok... i got a few bugs in my copy of STALKER (patch 1.0003)

1. the duty task from Skull in "army warehouses"

part 1- After i killed off the sniper and exploring the freedom's base before all hell breaks lose thanks to duty a get 2 updates about 2 more sniper towers for no reason.

part 2- skull refused to talk to me when i walked up to him so i couldn't get my reward nor the next part of the task to kill off the base/snipers/leader.

part 3- skull and the duty squad was killed off by standing next to the bomb that blows up the wall (smart people O.o) while the straglers were killed off by freedom. My tasks with skull didn't fail nor update and a weird text string was left on the PDA map (sry, i didn't catch it).

2. Duty task killing "poker"

-It's bugged, he's stuck in the wall between the two rooms, making him unkillable.

3. Dead bodies dissapearing randomly after death

-some enemies just dissapear after they fall to the floor after you gun them down. This happens randomly.

4. Arena and the killable specators ;p

-this happened during the fight when you only got 4 F1 genades. Appently i tossed one to the westen wall (were the people are watching) and apon detonation one of the specators came from the wall along with shattered glass...

5. Super quick 100% radiated with large resistances

-around red contry i was walking on the path to the brain scorcher (just after the first large wall). certain parts of the area give off insanly large amounts of radiation even though i have 90% radiation resistance and the crsytal anomaly on my belt.

6. Other bugs

-A bug my dad had while playing, starting trader's door gets stuck

-some enemies don't detect getting hit at all, mainly the arena fight with the two dudes from the millatry.

That's about it... i will report anything else i find that bugs up ;p

It would be more realistic if enemies spawned from there perspective bases and then walked to were they should be. Like duty guys at the garbage can rack up 12 guys who do absolutly nothing, or the guys sitting across from the factory, they do nothing, guys at cordon can rack up 16 stalkers and after the merc mission sit there and do nothing.
Theres alot of NPCS on the map, not doing anything. And the player should be able to interact more, have NPCS follow or when in a fight feel as if they are fighting with you, Like when you try to help them they act like your not even there til the fights over and then they treat you bad by demanding you to lower your weapon after you saved his life.

I know the above is not a bug, But this can cause problems for some cause these objects take up memory, vid memory, The amount of time for dead bodies to go away is much too long, and I believe weapons never go away. Each of those object persistant on map can cause lag and or lock-ups for some. Thanks

Problems even with patch v10003

<font color="#000080">A few points with an otherwise great game. they are:</font color="#000080">

<LI>1. When going to a mission which requires you to cross levels (moving from the Agroprom Institute to the garbage) i find that if you die befoer the mission has been completed (or even started) when you respawn the mission has been completed and you are able to collect the reward.</LI>
<LI>2. When looking at the map, and you try to either zoom in or out the map and zoom has a mind of it's own. You try to zoom in you either end up zooming way out or in on a different part of the map.</LI>
<LI>3. When using the night googles/vision, they are not very good at seeing in the dark, no matter what i seem to do with the contrast/bright levels they never seem to compensate for the crappness vision. A number of times it has been easier to use the tourch than use night vision. Only draw back in this is you are easier to detect.</LI>
<LI>4. Feezing. until i installed the new patch i never had a problem with the game freezing, now it happens quite a bit. This is quite annoying, especially when you are in the middle of a fire fight..</LI>

These are my bug bares. I have tried all the normal routes of reducing game asnd visual settings but this does not help. And i dont see why i should have to when my system more than meets the max requirements.

I get the same thing.

Another bug: If you run up the hill directly to the north of the point in garbage that takes you to agroprom, (see pictures for exact location) and then you come back down, the radioactivity will not go away. My radioactivity meter just keeps going and going no matter where i go, even if i use an antirad, it will just keep going. If i save and reload, the noise of the detector is gone, but the radioactivity keeps going up and up.

I would also love to see the 'Kill poker' Quest fixed, because without doing it you can't do any more quests for the duty guys, and you can't become their friends.

I found a few more bugs as I was playing.
RPG - if you pick up a loaded one, and click on it in your inventory and hit unload, the ammo just dissappears.

This is an explanation for an earlier reported bug, someone said that the stashes sometimes dont show as empty after you loot them. Reason: If you have found out about a stash say 3 times, you go an loot it, and it still shows on your PDA, just put your gun into the stash, press take all, put your gun back in, and hit take all again. You should be able to do this with any item, not just your gun. If you have found out about a stash 5 times, you have to loot it (1) and then put your gun in there and take it out 4 times. 1 4=5, 5 is how many times you found out about it.

Heard the developers are looking at this thread, so to remind them of this issue.

Constant Freezing/Lockups

Mentioned a while back in this thread, but would like the freezing issue sorted in the next patch. All well having tweaks to make the game run a little better, but some people cannot even play the game!

What I'd also like:

2. That they are dealing with this in this next patch, or one after. Or not at all. Some communication would be nice.

b) Some Official Support - I emailed GSC Support 34 days ago about this and have had no reply. Thats how long I haven't been able to play the game I paid £35 for.

1- Enemies shoot and can be seen through walls often

2- I can often see the shadows of npcs on walls if they are behind it

3-cannot load quicksave (very annoying bug)

4- Cannot shoot lights out or fixtures off

5- Grenades dont always blow up

6- Grenade launcher does not attatch to GP 37 although it says it does

7- Typo in dialog when talking to the commander at the border (freedom mission protect the border)

Bugs I found.

In the Dark Valley, X-18 lab:
Complete the lab and once arriving on the main floor, go to room on roof and snipe, toss grenades, etc to kill the arriving troops.
While standing at window some of the troops will come up through the floor (about the 2nd or 3rd column between the windows)
Sometimes they appear in the column, other times they just duck their head & shoulders in and out of the floor while shooting at you.....

NPC's seems to lose sync with the enviroment now and then. In Yantar after returning from the lab and heading to the mobile unit, I looked back and some Snorks were crawling around in mid air. Another time troops were moving in air in the Garbage and Cordon.
This usually reoccurs after a reload or quick load.

No mention of a quick save or load (F6 & F7) in the manual, or either dev or publishers sites.

Chaser pump shotgun:
Cannot change ammo when it's fully loaded. You have to shoot off 1 round before you can change ammo.

Professor in mobile lab, in Yantar keeps saying "Hello, Hello" over and over even if you walk away from him a short distance he'll still say it.


That's all the bugs, glitches, etc I can think of off hand. (that haven't been posted)

Bugs so far in patch .xxx3

First let me say I've been through STALKER 4 time in the 'novice' level... Started out the 5th in 'stalker' lev when the 2 patches killed my saved games so I started over in stalker level, but had to switch back to novice because damage and armor damage was too far off for novice since the patch.
Have seen improvements in the amount of spawning (good job devs)
Did not get the troops in the dark valley come through the floor (don't really know if its fixed or they just didn't show up, so I went after them)

Now the bugs:

Cordon: Got the "Kill sales rep" twice (both were in different locs though) the 2nd came after completing the 'dark valley'
The thing about the 1st time was he was all the way to the 'bar' map and I got this just before going to the 'garbage' so I had to complete the entire garbage, save mole, under ground, complex, ..complete, kill rep, return to Cordon and only had about 1 or 2 hours to spare (if I hadn't been through the game before I would have never made it)
(personally I'd like to see 'mission' time limits removed)

Novice level... 60k for armor? Lol, you don't get that much cash until waaay into the game)

(dark valley) Lights still show through walls in just about every area and the critter in the X-18 lab (last level) glows through the floor.

Here's a goodie: Borov (dark valley) Go into his office and adjoining room with the lockers...... Lockers are locked, but I could 'see' items in the lockers, desk, drawer, etc. without opening them....Plus I could 'take' the items without opening the lockers as well.

Shooting critters close up seems to miss more then hit (just IMHO)

NPC's still shooting through walls/ objects.......

That's it for now..... Only starting the 'take the proffessor to Yantar' map...... Will drop by and list any others I find.

Bugs in 1.0003 continued.

Since patch 1.0003:

Yantar/ inside x-18 lab: Just after killing some NPC’s the body would vanish, then reappear a few seconds to maybe 30 seconds later.

Just to mention: for some reason STALKER does not support keyboard sound control (vol up, down, mute) Most of my other games do.

Wild Territories: (Just upon returning from completing Yantar) Fired grenade from a Thunder S14 and the shot failed to explode (I only had one shot so couldn’t see if others would fail as well)

Warehouses map:
Went straight to border (before going to the freedom leader) Got the ‘protect boarder mission to PDA. Killed all the invaders, got message to return to boarder leader, he rewarded me…. A minute or so later I got the message to ‘protect the boarder’ this time I was suppose to go to the freedom commander, he failed to acknowledge the mission.
(Here comes the trick part, hope you can keep up
I know that if I save and reload, the mission shows complete as soon as the game starts (this happens every time) Sadly I had already agreed to help the leader defeat the duty camp before I saved and when I reloaded the game…. The entire freedom camp was on alert and running around with their guns drawn and aiming in the direction of the duty camp.
At this point I had to go kill the duty by myself as no freedom fighter would speak to me.
I reloaded from an earlier save, got the message to get my reward, this time I asked about jobs first…. And things proceeded normally.
As mentioned if the leader fails to acknowledge the ‘protect border’ mission, save/reload corrects the problem 100% of the time. (even since the patch(s)

Border mission repeated after I completed “snitch” mission but although I got the mission flash on the screen, it did not show in PDA, nor did either of the freedom leaders acknowledge it.

Freedom trader runs out of money to buy items from you.

Bulldog 6 was missing from cellar. Grenades were there, no BD6. Saved and reloaded, rechecked the cellar…. Still missing, saved and reloaded again and it was there.
(it was there the other 4 times I played before the .0003 patch)

Ok now the bad one….. Returned to the bar after completing the helping the freedom against the duty…. All duty in the bar map now attack me along with several ‘neutral’ stalkers. (the NPC’s in the actual bar and just outside are still neutral)
This makes going back and completing earlier missions just about impossible….
Before the last patch, I could go back and finish the Bulldog 6 mission (even helping the freedom against the duty) Now I can’t even get back to the ‘Garbage’ without having to kill the duty at the gates (or on the way to the gates)…… Big problem!

Oh yeah! Since the patch the game seems to run slightly less jerky, but noticed (at least for my system there have been more pause/ black screen/ move moments then before in the warehouse map (before the patch I had far less)

Excuse the long messages and comparisons. Kind of an old habits thing (I used to be an independent game tester before I retired)

I feel so bad for all of you guys having to deal with huge bugs like certain quests not working perfectly...

Seriously, if the devs read this... FORGET all the whiny BS that goes on and try and focus on the fact that there are still many people out there who can't even play the game (8800/Vista crashing, etc.).

Version problems...and more.

For those that are having problems with crashes, try tweaking the video card settings and keep checking the manufacturer.....
I know I played "Farcry" a few times and one of the N-vidia updates caused it to crash constantly, so I reverted back to the drivers a few versions earlier and it ran great again...... Vista/MS acknowledged there are problems with drivers and so has just about all the card makers.... Keep checking their sites for updated drivers.....

NOTE TO DEVS>
1.0003 patch:

Am in mind burner map... Just threw the switch and about to fight the waves of NPC's..... Since the patch armor damages so easily my best armor is down to 20/30% effective (this is in novice level)
Assuming I survive the NPC's don't think I can make it back to the warehouse area (even less the bar).......

Don't think armor should be damaged.... game charges way too much for good replacement (which is a must in the later maps) and the armor you find randomly is almost like wearing nothing in the later levels.....
Loved the game before the patch.... no so now... too frustrating.
I was chatting with a guy that just got your game and he hates it....Told him to delete it, reinstall it and don't patch it, and just play without the patches... and he loves it now (lol, so it's just not me

well... now i'm having a weird crash/freeze in the beginning of the prypiat map. it's strange because i had in that map in the first time, cleaned the area to the stadium, i even entered the NPP map to have a pick (saving before in Prypiat) and exit to explore a little more before going to the final showdown now, when entering prypiat for the second time, there's a big number of loners in the beggining and one minute after i have this freeze or crash to desktop
i'm playing in win xp with a nvidia card and never had this problem till now in the first run with this patch (1.0003) all ok, i spent a lot of time exploring this map and kicking monolith's ass without any problem and now i can't reenter it to finish the game


by the way...still the best game ever for me

I had the same problem. I fixed it by setting Lighting to Static. If I turn on dynamic, I get this problem for some reason. I have 2Gb of RAM and an nVidia 6800 Ultra, so it's not for lack of hardware.

Some of the worst bugs i have encountered in v.1.0003 :

1. At the CHERNOBYL NPP mission inside the SARCOPHAGUS, its almost impossible to load a saved game = even if u have killed and cleared everyone before saving - when one loads the save, theres 1 - 8 exoskeleton soldiers standing around you and you die instantly from their bullets.

I had to manually save about every minute new different named save, because only about 1 in 5 saves had only the ONE exoskeleton enemy waiting, and i could kill him and continue playing...


2. also at the CHERNOBYL NPP, inside SARCOPHAGUS, there is constant flow of enemies attacking you from behind, even there is NO WAY they could have gotten there. Before i get to the first railgun/gauss dude, i have to kill about 2 to 6 soldiers attacking from behind.


3. The time adjusting buttons dont work. No effect whatsoever on PDA clock speed no matter how much pressing the buttons. (did try this only AFTER the ppl spawned like mad at the Sarcophagus level, tought slowing time down might reduce their spawn rate, but to no avail.

this was on Novice level, so i only am afraid how many soldiers spawn around you when you load the game at Sarcophagus on higher levels - 50 exos maybe ?

As a result its impossible to get very far at the Sarcophagus level - unless you dont load any saves - which is impossible... ive yet to finish the game... Maybe after next patch

Otherwise i loved the game, and suffered only minor bugs that didnt kill the game before the Sarcophagus level. No NPC:s were spawining at game load and shoot me or ppl didnt spawn behind my back every minute on other levels. Only this level seems to be bugged severely.

BtW, thanks for the -noprefetch and -nointro tips those helped nicely.

Since patch.

Game in Novice setting seems like it's been switched to a much harder level.... Armor gets damaged to the point of being ridiculous.
I was in Chernobyl, before I got to the top of the stairs, I had gone through 25 anti rad injections, 11 yellow, 16 reg med kits and 97 bandages...... Not to mention the 3 suits of armor that were destroyed....
I constantly get the "Protect the boarder" and all I have to do is quick save and quick load and after the first time (when you actually protect the boarder), the save/load gets you free "Return for reward" without doing anything.... (I did it 4 times) Seems to occur mainly when leaving the warehouse map and returning... Although it did trigger twice within the warehouse map.......

Seems my old outdated system runs the game better then the newer blowout PC's.

Man, I'd hate to see the hardest level........ Devs, sorry to say these patches just screwed up what was a really enjoyable game..... Prob will wait a few weeks to see if 1.0004 rolls out before starting another game.
If no patch, will delete the game and reinstall it (without the patches)

Granted the game runs a bit better since the .3 patch, but, would rather play with the jerky motion, then the way it is now......

On this 2nd play-through i seem to constantly run into a problem : my reputation drops suddenly from Excellent to terrible, without any reason.

Gladly, i save manually a lot : (learned this from 1st play-through) every time i enter a new area, every time before i take new missions and before completing missions etc, so i have PLENTY of manual saves from where to load the Excellent reputation back.

Some missions i cant complete at all because if this bug :
(or i can, if i want terrible reputation)

1. Barman gives "kill stalker" mission, if i accept, reputation immediately sinks to terrible.

2. Purge the Dog Lair 2nd time. First time i killed the dogs, it was OK, no rep hit, but now i cant kill a single dog from the lair, rep hit is immediate if i kill one dog there. Its annoying, i must run & sprint like mad past the dogs when i want to move from Bar - Carbage or Carbage - Bar and hope the dogs dont bite, cause i cannot defend against them without reputation sinking to terrible !

3. Bring the Dutyer weapon back. I have the storming obokan OK, but when i try to hand the Obokan to the drunk, rep goes to terrible

Strange, this reputation bug did not occur at all the first play through, and now i cant play 30 minutes without it. Very bizarre bug indeed.

Been there, had that done to me. Repeatedly. But I did not see ANY difference in how I was treated. Maybe trades are affected. Maybe -- but my rep is back to "Excellent" after a couple more transactions...

My take: For now, ignore it. The game does.

I hate reloading a save while in the Freedom base and suddenly getting a new quest automatically assigned, like "Protect stalkers at the Agroprom" (they mean at the campsite NW of the military warehouse base), which will fail before I can even get there!

But I guess that's pretty realistic.

GP 37 & Grenade Launcher

I seriously hope this bug will be fixed in the next patch... The M203 grenade launcher says in its description that it can be attached to the GP 37 assault rifle, but it can't. Here's a pic:

When you left-click on the M203, the only option it gives you with a GP 37 in your rifle slot is "drop".

1.0003 patch bug.

Noticed since the .003 patch all NPC's that sell.... Sell armor with an extra '0'. Armor that sells for 6,000 (shown in the HUD) sells for 60,000 by NPC's...
This is for all armor... 15k armor sells for 150k....

Also noticed the game seems to miss check points.....
Missions get repeated, like the game fails to check to see if the mission is listed in the PDA 'completed' list... Or does not check to see if you have cleared a certain area where the mission was suppose to be.

Armor damage math seems to be off......Armor damage seems too high.
Suggest doing away with Armor damage.... the random armor drops are bad (found cheapest armor in chernobyl... lot of good that would do ;-D
Not to mention players always want to buy better armor... So assuming the high price the NPC's charge isn't a bug, no one can afford it any how.

Game loads faster and runs slightly smoother.....

NPC's still shoot through things they shouldn't be able to.......

NPC's still come through walls (and floor in Dark Valley)....

NPC lights shine through walls, floors, etc........

NPC's (some) vanish and reappear right after dying.......

Grenade launchers still do not show explosion after 1st shot........

Suggestion: Random treasure drops are strange.... After 6 times through the game (twice since the .0003 patch) Some items don't even appear in a game or at least in the same map as they did in the previous game.

Also if there is any way to have the next patche(s) keep the save games would be nice.

Under the strange: The present game I'm on, I cannot get the night vision to come on at all.... So far I'm only to the start of going from the bar to the Dark Valley......

Still love the game.... just need to get the next patch right as it stands now.... The game was actually more enjoyable before the two patches...

Few more, propably reported before

v.10003

- Duty Mission : "Kill Rapist/Murderer Bandit Poker" imposible to complete, the dude is off somewhere rapin' & murderin' it seems, i've killed every single bandit from Dark Valley, Garbage, Agroprom, Agroprom Underground, Cordon and Wild Territory. Most of these areas twice over. The guy doesnt exist.

- Randomly get Sidorovitch mission "Kill bandits at Agroprom Underground" to pop up whenever i enter new levels (even im nowhere near Agroprom). Some other already completed missions keep poppong up at nonrelated locations, but this is the most annoying one because its most frequent one. (furthermore it cannot be completed anymore, even if i try to go there and kill the bandits, it just dont give the "task complete" trigger)

Just tought to report, if it helps that many people do so. Maybe increase the possibility of fix. Who knows.

I just found out what causes the reputation bug. This may have been reported elsewhere, but I've not seen it yet.

The engine support function change_character_reputation() is meant to take a delta: change_character_reputation(10) increases it by ten. But the script functions task_reward() and task_reward_storyline() call the function with the argument "db.actor:character_reputation() plus task_desc.reward_reputation".

Your reputation is pretty much doubling every time you complete a quest -- until it overflows and becomes negative. Then it toggles back and forth.

The fix is to remove the "db.actor:character_reputation() plus" from the argument in both places. Then start a new game, or patch add_actor() in db.script with something like this:

	if actor:character_reputation() > 100000000 then
		actor:change_character_reputation( -1 * actor:character_reputation() plus 10000)
	end


That's because the set_character_reputation() function isn't there, at least in the version I'm using.

You are running with a HUD mod which may be hiding the cursor. That "furnace" requires that you crouch, maybe even double-crouch, and aim at the very top of the backpack.

I've seen the mutants-as-friends quite a bit lately. I wonder if it has anything to do with the reputation bug, or some change in patch 1.0003...

I know you are aimed at it. Even with normal HUD, that doesn't work with that stash. You have to position the cursor on the top of the pack after you crouch. If you "low-crouch" right up against the furnace, only the top sixth of the visible pack is searchable. If you back away a bit, maybe the top third works. It's as if there is an invisible wall in front of all but the very top of the pack. Please try it and see. I agree it is still a bug, though.

Your link wasn't clickable, and I made a wrong guess about it based on my other experience. The reputation is given to zombies and stalkers when they are spawned, and maybe the associated zombie has a positive number instead of a normally negative one. Yeah, I'd say it is also a bug, and likely a different bug than the one I mentioned about being friends with formerly-hostile-but-now-dead creatures.

Major Freedom bug.

I've doen this a couple of ways, but the result is always the same.
Novice level...
Go to freedom base (Do not do the help freedon/duty mission)
One time I did the duty mission to get the Bullgod6, completed it and returned to the freedom base......
The other I did I did't do any missions....
Both times I went to the freedom leader's room, saved game and quit.
The other time I just saved and reloaded the save.....

The result is once the load is complete the entire base goes on alert and you'll have to go way back to an earlier save or do the "Help the freedom/duty" mission by your self as you will not get to talk to "Max", thus no attack/ help on the duty camp.

One time I had saved while standing in fromt of the freedom leader and when I loaded not only did they go aon alert, but ran out of the room and blocked the door.
I tried the trick of reloading the same save again and again (sometimes thigs work different)... but that did't work, they would not move! (Had to reload an earlier save out side of the room)......

This happens everytime.... All you have to do is converse once with the leader...... So... DON'T SAVE or LOAD in THIS ROOM!!!!

Those strike me as realistic possibilities as well as bugs.

I'll bet you accidentally shot one of the scientists around the helicopter crash site in Wild Territory (Rostok, west of the Bar), which will make any member of the scientist community your enemy. I think it may be possible to do the sporadic automatic quests to get back in their good graces over time, but it may be easier to reload a savegame prior to the Wolfhound/Kruglov encounter in Wild Territory.

The bug for me is that there should be a way to undo "friendly fire" reputation damage, say by talking with Sakharov as you have and having him say, "You shot one of us!" and giving you the option to perform quests to make up for that.

**Edit:** I just noticed that you are a member of Freedom! That'll affect your rep with the scientists, I think. I didn't know it was truly possible to join Freedom as of the official 1.0003 patch, and this also implies that you went to Army Warehouses before completing the X-16 mission, something I know nothing about.

The camp protect mission (another bug: it's a campsite, not the Agroprom!) is an ongoing thing. Neutral stalkers come in from outside the map (usually from the south, I think) and repopulate the campsite over time. The same goes for the mercs. Yet it may be a bug if you don't have a recent patch like the one from bardak which allows the mercenaries to actually attack the stalkers that appear. Ironically, there is another bug that often completes such a task if you save/reload.

now that i'm freedom all duty, scientists and even some loners in bar shoot at sight but i gained neutral with bandits and mercs (man i love bandits voices they are so reall) but the reason i posted it as bug is that i managed to talk to scientists inside bunker but when they get out i get shot:/

A few more .003 bugs/ items.

Novice/ 3rd time through since last patch(8th time thru overall)....

The 3rd time this game I went to Yantar I got the "kill zombie" & "Zork lair" missions, killed the Zombies in front of the round mini lab and got the "Return for reward"...for the Zork mission.
(oh, I never asked to do either, they just popped up once entering the area)
There was also the "bandits at the Algoprom" in the PDA as well.....

The Bulldog 6 still does not show up unpo entering the basement, I had to quick save and reload twice before it shows up in the usual spot.

This time thru...the shotgun for the guy in the bar "Family heirloom" never showed up in the usual place at all (even looked around the area.
Mayby it was because this time there was several of those invisible lightning NPC's running around the track area and they threw it somewhere???

When leaving shops or going into the underground the item held in hand shows as binoculars even though you were holding a weapon when entering...

This is annoying. The game tends to remember things it shouldn't (like reloading a saved game after dying, and the enemy are already aware of you when they weren't when you saved) and not remembering things it should, like the weapon you are using on level transitions and the like.

The first time Duty fights Freedom at that intersection after turning off the brain scorcher, those are Monolith warriors at the top of the hill in front of the exit to Pripyat. In the unmodded game, Monolith is never your friend.

I think it is deliberate. They stack up there in a cheerleader-style pyramid waiting for you. Want proof? Press the Pause key during the synchronizing as you load the Army Warehouses level coming back from Red Forest.

Found few more bugs at the endgame *possible spoilers*

v.1.0003

If i decide to fight the C-Con and go into the teleport section, game seems to "remember" what you have done -after- the savegame, and ammo is wasted / enemies alerted when you load the save.

Example : i had ~30 shots for the Gauss rifle, and i had just come out from one teleport. I saved the game, and shoot the enemies with Gauss as i proceeded. Then i was surprised by 2 gauss snipers from the roof and had to load as i died. to my surprise - i only had ~10 rounds left in my gauss plus all the guys at the level were "alerted" of my presence - even the very far away snipers who did not previously activate until at close distance. Now they were yelling "Umma" and shooting at me immediately after loading the save - at rediculously far distance.

/edit: saw now that this has occured to others at earlier stages of the game, to me however - it only occured at the late stages - and especially with gauss rifle (the ammo wasted when loading) which is painful, because the ammo for it is very hard to get.

I know the NPC at the top of the hill are always your enemy, the point I was making was..... The battle between the duty and the freedom at the intersection, should not BOTH be friendy to you.
BOTH sides showed to have yellow AND green when I cursored them.
Even killing a wounded one on the ground that was yellow, did not cause the rest to become hostile......
The other 5 times through one side or the other was my enemy (usually the duty as I usually help the freedom in the warehouse mission) And even though I sided with the Freedom this last time, both sides were my pals and would not shoot at me....... BTW they killed each other off and I had to take on the Monolith guys at the top of the hill myself... Which was not chore as I had the "VintarBC

One thing I've noticed..

Through the games I've played before the patches and after, is that the game is terrible at doing checks......

This can be the cause for problems with the repeats of the missions, with reloads, even NPC's lights and bodies going through walls, celings etc.

Another things that ashould be fixed is....

In shops when you are buying something the items you have equiped should be 'grayed' out (or in the games case 'redded' out)
How many of you have accidently sold the weapon you had loaded and in your hand? ;-D

I've read there are suppose to be more sequels to this game, but this engine really needs a ton of work before doing any more.... Which I'm sure the devs are doing......
I just wonder if any of them actually read this board.....

I guess I did miss your original point. I hold a different opinion about this; I thought it was very realistic to have them both be friendly to you. What I didn't care for was the close-minded Hatfield-McCoy feud between Duty and Freedom -- but unfortunately that is actually realistic, too.

But the real bugs are in your next post. I agree about the checking problems.

I not only concur about the trading of equipped weapons, I would like to extend the idea.

I would like to have to "unequip" an item before it becomes available for transfer or sale, whether it be weapon, suit, or artifact. I have three Stone Flowers, for example, and I sell one or provide one for a quest fulfillment. The one transferred is often the one from my belt!

Off-topic but related to the equipping problem: In the case of favored weapons, I've found that I can add "quest_item = true" to the associated item in the appropriate .ltx file, like Strelok's Fast-Shooting AK74 in unique_items.ltx, and it doesn't even appear in the grids involved in trading or transfer, only in inventory. To trade it later, just re-edit the file outside the game and remove the added line or prepend it with a semicolon.

Info on how to do this can be found with a bit of browsing of the Mod Discussion section. (Or one can start a thread there...)

I could accept that if I had that issue with every gun, but it's only with the Spas equipped that I encounter this corruption/blockyness. That tells me it must be a game bug. Also, I have not witnessed any other corruption in STALKER than what has been mentioned by me in this thread.

one can play about 1second to few minutes there and then fatal error repeats again.

strange, didnt have the error at all in my earlier play-throughs (all with 1.003) but this time the bug seems very persistant.

glad the 1.004 will (propably) fix this. (dont want any mods at this time so dont suggest mod fix )

Game Crashes/ Trader door stuck bug fix

Dear Moderator/GSC

i realize that this is a double post. i didn't post it the right section but this is where i wanted too. i apolgize.

To fix the Trader door bug. What i did (not being able to use the USE button) to fix this was Run at the door and back up quickly and i mean RUN. I ran at the Door in a straight line. When its open u will not need to open the door anymore during the game. Hope this helps some ppl.

I am expierencing game crashes on Army warehouses lvl.. sevrely. Also i get game crashes randomly (just at anytime even just standing there) and when trying to save game.Using all the save methods F6/ ~/ esc. All crashes result to Crash To Wndows. i was able to play the game somewhat until i hit Army warehouses lvl.

Plz help Sir.I love ur game which makes it harder to bear.rRrRoar....

All i want to do is to be able to play the game i don't care about the other bugs. :/

have read alot of threads and the one fix that was posted was an none offical fix by replacing XR_3da or something like that and i don't really like screwing around with those areas if need be.

I have to the same problem as above, in army warehouse level, destroy monilith soldiers, the tab comes up to enter next level. I check yes, screen stops, get message that engine has problem. program locks up. Have to use task manager to close program. Have you found a solution to this problem?

Really annoying, sometimes it happens faster and sometimes it takes longer to happen. Never had crashes or problems before. It started after installing the latest nvidia driver, at least I think. I had been to yantar before after installing the newest patch, and before installing the latest nvidia driver and then it worked... anyways this is the log:

Are you waiting a second to let your aim accuracy settle? It's just like not using the iron sights, but you can't see the crosshairs shrink.

I recommend trying some target practice with a building wall.

The same with me and I run XP sp2 2GB of ram and have NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS. The frame drops until there is stops in the game and the horizon is none see able. You can look at your pretty feet though!

Another small bug

Bug

Probably it isn't a bug, but here it is:
I took mission from General Voronin. In it I'm supposed to purge the pseudodogs liar. But when I get to place, I haven't found any pseudodogs. Istead of them there were blind dogs. But after killing them, you can collect your reward and in that way complete mission. So it is just a little inaccuracy in game

Many containers are affected by this bug... For example, the drawers and closets in Borov's hideout in the Dark Valley. I doubt these bugs will ever get fixed by an official patch, due to their insignificant nature.

One thing I thought of that'd be nice to see is helmets, to obviously protect your head from shrapnel and gunfire.

Another thing, would be to tighten up the "spread circle", when aiming with the sights, because it's so unrealistic that you're aiming at a guy's head with the sights from 20 feet, and the shot goes way off.

Also, I'm another one for the occasional removal of bodies from the level, in some places, they really start to stack up .

Refix the teleport bug. It's close, but still there to a lesser extent.

Cases in point: Cordon south .mil base, these guys teleport in still. Well, usually just one. Same with entering yantar from the bar, usually .mil/merc about 3 seconds behind you as you enter the area and drills you in the back. Not fun.

Worst was after clearing out the DV bandit base (with a bulldog, no less) I was admiring my handywork as I approached the compound's gate.
4 teleported right in front of me 2 with AKs, 2 with Krinks and drilled me good. Exo went from 98% down to 85% or so...not fricking fun.

This is with the .03 patch.

Hope this patch brings major improvements for those of us who can barely get the game to run for more than a few mins... Fur fecks sake I can even get Gothic 3 to run for hours without a crash (aka: fairly stable) and Stalker has only once run for more than a few mins without crashing.
They are even making a new game/ep. How can they expect me to believe they even care about us, their "old" customers

Multiplayer Bugs

1- Error Message, something about a runtime error

2- NO PB!

Singleplayer bugs

1- Numerous spelling errors with npcs

2- grende that does cannot be used in armory at bandit hq

3- constant respawn of duty, bandits, militia and bloodsucks in almost every area

4- fps gets lower and lower for no reason

5-get hungry wayy to fast

6- enemies shadows go through wall so you can see where they are on the other side of a wall

7- enemies go through walls sometimes

8- enemies shoot through walls

9- every time you go through garbage the loner camp gets attacked by bandits

10- every time you go though the duty checkpoint more have spawned

11- npc's repeat phrases way to much

12- mouths move on npcs when they arent even talking, as well as when they play guitar

13- npcs block doorway

14- same quests "spawn" from lukash at freedom base

15- those web like anomolies dont do anything

16- blocky shadows

17- headshots dont always kill

18- the empty shells STILL come out the gun on the wrong side (supposed to come out on the right not left)

About the shells... The weapons are shown to have ejection ports on both sides, and the AK's have the charging handle on the wrong side. It should be on the right where the ejection port SHOULD be but the ppl who designed the weapon had no idea whatsoever of what a firearm should look like. And even if they have seen one they are just idiots for designing the game like this without paying attention to detail.

Not enough flies on rotting corpses. No foot prints, never has to take a leak. How much detail do you want.

Yeah and if you can see an ejection port you WILL get nailed in the noggin with hot brass. There is a reason for everything and it is normal to use the right hand to lock and load an AK. If you want excitement make the guy permanently left handed. You get all the action and realism of a realistic firearm and still have your wonderful excitement of fantasy land.

Heres a problem, patch 1.0004 sucks ass in general and overall. I pray to god that the reason for the jump to 1.0006 is because GSC/THQ know this and are rectifying it as well as fixing other stuff. Also, increase mutant spawns and make them free-roaming for crying out loud!

I don`t mean to demean your concern, which may indeed be true, but I am compelled to say that is absolutely small-fry in a world of quest bugs.

The rifle looks like, sounds like, shoots like, and is as satifying as a Russian assault rifle ought to be. I kind of come down with others who would compare this to errors in modelling Spetznaz boot tread patterns or the like.

They are not idiots for allowing me to play with such satisfying ballistics. Had I not read this post I never would have known about some kind of inconsistency in the weapon modelling. I am sure GSC would accept a corrected rifle model if you would like to craft & animate it. Saying the people who designed the in-game incarnation of the weapon are folks who "have no idea what a firearm should look like" is both absurd and dumb.

Some civility goes a long way.

I agree that the rifles should be mirrored correctly. This is also a problem in Counter-Strike. But should this be fixed in a patch? No! If we ever get an SDK we can have the models mirrored correctly (have the actual model mirrored and recompiled into the game.) It bugged me at first that all the ejection ports were right in my face, but I got over in a second or two.

Look, the patch isn't released yet. Hell knows if it will ever be released.

Why they keep patchin' SoC after releasing Clear Sky? It's time wasting. Everyone moves play Clear Sky after it's released.

why would say that no one would be playing SoC? and just move on to Clear Sky? i won't buy CS till they fix SoC and only till then that it works the way it should. i know a lot of people here in the states that feel this way to.

they to are tired of these MP patch which only thing they think that need to be fix! now there is a waste of time if anything at all. but i guess the MP side of SoC is big over the big pond, but here in the states it is not. the single player is the big thing here with SoC.

if they don't release patch 1.1 then majority of the players here in the states won't be buying clear sky's then. which is a big part of there income i would think

the problem started after taliking to the trader in cordon. up untill this point i had a main quest and main quest arrow. now i dont. ive mannaged to get to the loner leader and talk to the captured commander but without the main quest pointer i cant find his buddies to kill. whats wierd is that when i talked to the loner leader and subsequently the imprisoned commander i get a quest complete message but no new quest message even though they clearly gave me quests.

IN SHORT:- no main quest in pda and no yellow arrow pointing to it dispite having being given a main quest

Well now that i've installed the 1.5.0.4 patch(russian) i cant move to new areas. The blue pile isn't there but if i look at the map i see that other locations have the blue pile and when i move to that location with guide the blue pile dissapears and when i try to enter a new area this message comes up:

More and/or faster memory. That's the main cause of it, and there's no real fix for it other than that, or turning down settings a lot.
