Gonna punch the screen!

I am on version 1.4005 build 6890.

The game freezes to black screen about every few minutes.

What ever... Didn't on the first lay through. Now all the time. Do i need to install the EP to fix this or just say screw this?

There is anecdotal rumour that this has been observed by others.

From your description, the problem seems to be that your game environment has altered between the first playthrough and your current experience.

IME (and for others) the game would not complete in vanilla 1.4005 for a variety of failure reasons. Not only that, but attempting to reload a save to troubleshoot such failings resulted in 'erratic behaviour'.

It used to be that the decompressed environment could be investigated and tweaked in a reasonably logical manner, but with the 1.4 engine used in DC things are a tad more arcane as the new team seem to be migrating towards a different tree structure for the game OS.

Cutting to the chase - and this is just my 2 €c theory - if your game worked first runthrough, but won't run again; logic says that a reinstalled vanilla installation should behave as you first encountered it.

FWIW - even v1.3003 LA installations could "go off" - but it took MANY playthroughs to observe this, and the buggy behaviour was much less intense and mostly confined to dropping the player in the Swamps for Freeplay or a cruddy all.spawn dice-roll.

Nearly forgot.

With the previous^^ post in mind, change one variable at a time.

Despite its hallowed status as being a panacea for a multitude of shortcomings, it's more of a testbed for tweaks and bugfixes that should have been evident in alpha testing.

Ask yourself the following: "If the 'EP' is an addon rather than a patch, how will it cure an underlying problem in the core game?"

Keep it simple - Reinstall ab initio and see if you can get a working environment. If not, try the EP.

(THEN punch your screen)
