Shadow of Chernobyl - Patch 1.0005

Yes, if you move out to the middle of the road, you will be surrounded
and massacred. Try to retreat back to the little sentry booth and you
will be overwhelmed. The only chance you have is going to the left of
the truck that you appear next to and using it as cover to head on south.
I think it was intentional to discourage people from going that way if
they were in the Red Forest but the re-spawns there for a returning
Player was just an added benefit. Otherwise it would be like the CNPP.

The only thing similar is the Mutant Swarm that greets you when you
re-enter the Army Warehouses from the Red Forest or if the Player
enters the Agroprom Underground and then decides to retreat back out
the way they came. It's always funny when you hear people talk about
some if these situations and believe they were never meant to survive.

I returned immediately to Pripyat so there was no Monolith
re-spawns I had to fight going up the road. Entering the city
still under Monolith control meant I had to slowly take different
sections of it as I searched to get all 9 armors that I knew where here.
Again I had to watch my time and be careful to survive another day.

The Monolith are ready to greet you when you attempt to return coming
south from Pripyat. You can try to make your stand and fight them
in place but it's best to use the cover of the nearby truck and put
some distance between yourself and them. You can fight them
anywhere on the road or lure them away. What you cannot
do is avoid them if you plan on returning to Pripyat.

Their position at RF level changer does seem like it may have been intended to deter players from returning after entering Pripyat. I remember being caught off guard by it the first time and then eventually realizing that it wasn't just a case of bad timing like the many previous instances of meeting enemies at the very moment of entering a level. I've come to love that about the series, how you never know exactly what you're gonna get when loading in. Well, except in instances like this where they're always there.

First successful trip to Pripyat. I know I can't make any Manual Saves
there or stay long enough for an Auto Save to kick in ( may cause CTD )
so I have to go in, spend less than 10 hours and then get out with my
first load of loot going back to the Red Forest. There I can make a Manual
Save, drop off my load and come right back. This is the first of many trips.

There's definitely no one to blame but myself. Earlier I had
gone through there and had my team wiped out. I think there
were some Monolith hiding inside the metal shipping container.
This time I tried to over compensate by throwing grenades and
I paid the price for being reckless. It was pretty funny overall.

If I'm not mistaken I think I checked my stats later as shown in
one of the upcoming videos and those were a different class of
Snorks. Luckily this was my last death in taking Pripyat and
I was a lot more careful. I wanted to share my two death
videos to show I'm not perfect and the game is not easy.

My 2nd attempt to enter the City of Pripyat. You would think that
entering a space with 5 Exoskeleton Loners would be more successful.

That's why you don't use frags in close quarters and turn them hostile.

The "man-eating" variety of snorks that you often find in the northern areas can be somewhat problematic due to their extended leap-attack range. With them it's best to hold fire until after they land from a side-stepped attack. Though you can really only tell which kind they are by seeing what they can do, so it pays to approach with caution before engaging (unless you can get a clear headshot).

Pripyat can indeed be a dangerous place.

There's about a minute of bad audio around minute 3 to 4. I don't
know why. It wasn't there when I first uploaded and watched it.

Entered Pripyat for the first time ( in this Game ) on May 1, 2013.
What followed were the events that lead up to my untimely death.

Here's a couple of short videos related to my 12 Months in the Zone post:

My major stashes in Rostok on April 30, 2013, where I set out north to
Pripyat that evening to enter the city on May 1, 2013: 12 Months in the Zone.

Standing on the road going north in the Red Forest. One year ago at
this exact time, I got the task to kill Strelok from Sidorovich. Now it
was time to take my quest further north and enter the city of Pripyat.

The first part of this video could have been called "Rock in a hard place"
as I found myself atop my favorite perch near the Red Forest checkpoint,
caught between incoming Zombies and a surprise group of Monolith
reinforcements. After sorting through a lot of loot, I grabbed an SVD and
headed north on the main road where I had one last task to clear out the
Monolith guarding the road to Pripyat. After looking over my 12 Months
in the Zone stats, it was time to depart the Red Forest and enter Pripyat.
