Shadow of Chernobyl - Patch 1.0005

The two main reasons I'm using Fang's Exoskeleton is for the armor
protection added with the 4 Mama's Beads ( giving me 80% bullet
protection ) that comes in handy when facing Monolith Exoskeletons
and Military wearing Skat-9M bulletproof military suits who both have
high end weapons. The second reason is I can carry up to 80kg which
helps going all around Pripyat gathering loot ( mainly ammo, medkits
and food ) and then back and forth to the Red Forest. As you well know
I hate armor that you can't sprint in, so this is not my style of Game Play.
It just helps for the temporary conditions until Pripyat is under my control.

Yeah, that extra 10kg over the Tourist Suit would be useful for hauling all of those armors. The Exo's increased bullet protection is a poor trade-off for its lack of maneuverability, though. Not getting shot is always preferable to getting shot while wearing better armor. But I suppose it doesn't matter all that much when you can easily heal and repair your suit.

Shadow of Chernobyl - Patch 1.0005

I'm going to post all my Pripyat videos soon. The first and second one
will be where I got killed. I was wearing the Tourist Suit when a Snork
went through me like paper. My fault for not keeping my distance and
using the wrong weapon. The second video was a gun battle down in
the underground parking garage in the middle of the city. I went in
with 5 Loner Exoskeletons. Sure, we knew it was a trap. We were
doing well at first but then the next thing I know, they're all dead
and I'm suddenly all alone being killed by Monolith Exoskeletons.

After that, I decided it was worth the extra armor until I cleared out
the city. As the Tourist Suit weighs 5kg and let's me carry 70kg and
the Exoskeleton weighs 15kg but let's you carry 80kg, it's an even draw.
However the Pripyat level has the toughest enemies than anything south
of it. Plus, upon returning to the Red Forest, I have the Monolith ambush
party waiting for me. It's lack of mobility is made up by that better armor.

All of this has made me think more of the CNPP. I know there are a lot
of armors there ( in the last level past the Wish Granter detour ) so I
might end up having to really consider what 2 suits I want to take there.
I know I want to take the Tourist Suit and one other. The Skat-9M is very
heavy at 12kg. I might choose a less heavier suit just so I can carry more
supplies. More people have failed at the CNPP due to having a bad load out.

Right, I guess the weight carrying ability between the Exo and the Tourist Suit are the same when you factor in the weight of the suits themselves. It's been quite a while since I've even considered wearing an Exo in SoC.

As far as coming back from Pripyat goes, I'd much rather have an armor that allowed me to sprint for that scenario. It's similar to returning to Agroprom from the Underground through the front entrance; If you just stand and fight the Bandits who gather there you're gonna eat some lead, but if you immediately sprint for cover before returning fire it's possible to come away from it completely unscathed. Though you're much more likely to catch a few rounds dealing with the Monolith, but for me there's no situation where the loss of mobility is truly worth it from a defensive standpoint.

As far as CNPP load-outs go, the SSP-99M generally wins out for me due to its balance between low weight, decent armor, and excellent rad-protection. It's carried me through the end of the game several times, though I'll sometimes switch it out temporarily with some of the suits found within the facility for a few firefights in order to preserve it. But bringing the right combo of artifacts and weapons is the most important part of making it through the "true" end of the game.

Here's something you don't see everyday. 4 Freedom troops passing
through the Red Forest walking down the main road going to Pripyat:

Now that the Agroprom Military Base was under my control, I decided to
see how long replacements would take, what direction they would come
from and the frequency of the numbers. You would think they would
be smart enough to use the road but maybe they were ordered not to.

In a sense they were ordered to take that weird zig-zagging path, and if you would've taken out the base in the Cordon and then gone to Agroprom you could've seen them move along it going in the other direction. Or if you had quickly entered the Underground after killing them and then left you could've seen them all arrive sooner and in a single group.

Shadow of Chernobyl - Patch 1.0005

In older Games I had seen them walk down the middle road between
the two compounds and end up coming up to the northern gate. That
might have been at an earlier stage in the Game too. Like with all of
the levels in the Game, NPC & mutants behavior is changed by the
Player's progress and sometimes never gets noticed unless you look.

I've seen bunched up groups of Military before and for unknown reasons did not
see them do this in the Agroprom. They wanted to come in as singles despite
their deaths close together. In an upcoming video of Garbage you will see this.

* * * * *

After my time at the Agroprom Military Base, I moved on briefly
hanging out at the Agroprom entrance before moving on to the
Agroprom Loner Camp. As Bandits, Military and Mutants were
always a threat there, it's not really a safe place for a Loner to be.

Going through a level changer and causing them all to either spawn or move from an existing point at once seems to generally be the reason for respawns traveling in large groups. Otherwise, if you stay within a level the respawn timers function as intended and they're more likely to sort of 'trickle" in.

As for soldiers moving from the factory to the Institute through the other entrance, perhaps they were initially heading to the factory but then received a higher priority order to move to the Institute. From what I can tell the main change in military respawn behavior in the later game is that the higher-ranking Spetsnaz spawn in the north (after the player shuts down the Brain Scorcher) and sometimes travel from there to the southern levels via the Rostok migration path. The grunts still seem to mostly behave in the same way, moving from one base to the other.

That's funny. I've seen large groups of Military in Garbage ( passing
through ) and in Cordon ( intended destination ) so I'm not really
understanding why they are spread out in the Agroprom ( intended
destination ) like we see. One thing is for sure, I haven't seen the
Skat-9M Military Captains in travel other than the level they are in.
They appear in the Red Forest and I know their point of origin for
where they spawn in Pripyat. It is on the western side in an area
surrounded by anomalies and buses southwest of the Monolith Base.

Speaking of that, here's one of my biggest surprises in my Game:

* * * * *

I entered the Agroprom Underground expecting an average,
normal run. That did not happen. What I came across was
something I have never seen before down there, should
not have been there and defies explanation. The Zone
is always full of surprises and they usually kill you.
