Using the Level Editor

Hello folks,

I am hoping to create/edit some EAX sound environments using the 0.4sdk level editor for a mod I am working on. Trouble is, despite all my effort, I can't import the maps into the editor to, well, edit them.

Here has been my process so far, borrowing exclusively from this tutorial in Russian (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9Ok4ET9eTo&feature=channel_video_title):

1. Run xray 0.4 setup.exe
2. Map the X:\ drive
3. Run xray 0.3 patch
4. Run xray 0.4 patch
5. Copy entire gamedata folder from C:\programfiles\thq\etc to X:\ (this gamedata folder contains all assests from the mod I am working on)
6. Copy xray re-tools [10sep2008] update to the X:\ drive
7. Copy xray re-tools [20090708] update to the X:\ drive
8. Open X:\fsconverter.ltx, and change the $sdk_root$ to X:\
9. Repeat with X:\fsaiwrapper.ltx
10. In X:\converter.ini, change paths under [2947_config] to X:\gamedata\ and X:\gamedata\levels\
11. Run with the command: "X:\converter .....[need help here]"

Any ideas? I have tried nearly everything I can. Thanks for any help.

The instructions seems right, i say that you have to mess with the converter.ini.

Look for
[2945_config]
[2947_config]:2945_config
[aitest_config]:2947_config

sections, and alter these lines:

$game_data$ according to your SDK\level_editor\gamedata
$game_levels$ according to your SDK\level_editor\gamedata\levels

Did you convert the levels first?
Have you run the windows compatibility toolkit for win7?

Yep, sorry, i forgot the command:
Make a bat file (batch) where your converter.exe is, and run this command:

@start converter.exe -level l01_escape -out l01_escape -mode raw -with_lods

-level l01_escape: the level folders name, what you want to convert back to level editor scene in your SDK\level_editor\gamedata\levels folder

-out l01_escape: you have to specify the output folder in the SDK\level_editor\rawdata\objects\levels and the level name, what you get in the SDK\level_editor\maps folder - here you will find an l01_escape.level file, what you can open in level editor

-mode raw: output mode, it can be le, le2 or raw, see the documentation

-with_lods: extra option, produces lod textures, so you don't need to make separately in level editor. It's a must have to validate the level.

Thanks Hopefully that patch will fix a 0.4 SDK issue I'm having with browser windows not appearing. My OS is Win7 64bit, I already have the compatibility fix installed, I've also added -editor to the batch file and gone to the actoreditor.exe properties and under compatibility set it to XP SP2 and to run as administrator. Am I missing something out of that?

My OS is Win XP 64, so sorry, can't help with this.
There are few reasons, why i still use Win XP. The number one reason is Stalker SOC and SDK.

Ah ok. If I have to I'll pull out one of my older (by older I mean Phenom 2 ) systems and install XP on it. I'd rather not have that hassle though if I can avoid it. Damn shame the CoP SDK won't work for SoC

---END QUOTATION---

Does that bolded section have to be changed in the .bat file each time I want to load up/edit a new level?

So, for example:
To load level |01_escape (using my newly created .bat file):
@start converter.exe -level l01_escape -out l01_escape -mode raw -with_lods

To load |02_garbage:
@start converter.exe -level l02_garbage -out l02_garbage -mode raw -with_lods

Is this correct?

---END QUOTATION---

I am confused by this last part. By SDK\level_editor do you mean X:\?

If I am interpreting that correctly, I need to specify the output folder for each level here:

X:\rawdata\objects\levels

...so, for |01_escape, I would create:

X:\rawdata\objects\levels\l01_escape

To summarize, if I wanted to open/edit |02_garbge, I would need to

1. Create the following folder:
X:\rawdata\objects\levels\l02_garbage

2: Edit my .bat file to read:
@start converter.exe -level l02_garbage -out l02_garbage -mode raw -with_lods

Is that correct?

Also, my X:\maps folder only has mp_atp and mp_atp_test. I got the level names from my X:\gamedata\levels (which has all of my mod files in it). Am I missing something?
