A Truck named STALINGRAD ( Act II Part 6 )

I dropped my empty AK and quickly got out my Viper lining up on a target:
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/9279/ygb328gy8.jpg

I reloaded and noticed I still had 400 Rounds which is as many as
I had used with the AK. The Viper then got really hot and jammed:
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/6883/ygb329ap1.jpg

Two were getting close so I tossed a Grenade right at them:
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/6231/ygb330un0.jpg

Which turned out to be a mistake as several fallen Zombies suddenly stood back up:
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/7223/ygb331mi5.jpg

6 Zombies left as I continuously kept firing:
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/3087/ygb332kw5.jpg

Now 7 Zombies close as things were getting really bad. They were
using the tree as cover as they were getting higher on the slopes:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/3382/ygb333gi3.jpg

My Chaser 13 quickly greeted them but now I had 8 more around the corner:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/5772/ygb334kv6.jpg

I glanced at my PDA and saw Veterans, Experts, Experienced and Rookies:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/5853/ygb335xm9.jpg

The Viper kept jamming so I got out my Pistol. The UDP Compact
barked loudly in the Canyon, 2 of them dropped and I reloaded:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/5361/ygb336zb0.jpg

2 Exoskeleton Zombies came over the rise at me blasting their Shotguns:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/2636/ygb337wp9.jpg

Two well placed shots and one of the Exoskeleton Zombies dropped:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/9542/ygb338ol2.jpg

I was reloading my UDP when the pain hit me and everything starting going white:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/9284/ygb339ds3.jpg

I fumbled for my now cooled off Viper as I first saw the Controller:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/4734/ygb340ub3.jpg

5 Zombies left and down to 300 Rounds:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/9232/ygb341qe4.jpg

4 on the Mini-Map left and I knew it could not detect the Controller:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/442/ygb342pj3.jpg

My Viper continued to be jerked around as I sighted on the Creature:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/7868/ygb343hy7.jpg

A Psychic Wave knocked me down again and I rose to blurry vison:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/1317/ygb344cf5.jpg

I switched to my Shotgun as the Controller got closer:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/9483/ygb345sz4.jpg

It blasted me again as I struggled to see as it had moved back away:
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/4219/ygb346qm2.jpg

A new PDA Contact suddenly approached and to my surprise it was a Loner:

Before I could do anything...I watched the Controller turn around to
attack him, I heard a loud shot rang out and even from this distance I
could see the Loner's spray of blood from his throat as he died instantly:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/7294/ygb348ur6.jpg

I opened up with the Viper and reloaded again and again and again
until the Controller dropped and finally all the remaining Zombies.
The smoke rose up from my silenced gun drifting down the Canyon
and away up into the wind. I looked at my Inventory and saw I was
down to just 105 Viper Rounds in reserve with no more Grenades:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/7498/ygb349ub2.jpg

I waited as the seconds became minutes..the minutes became hours.
The cold and wet of winter really seeped from my Suit into my bones:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1450/ygb350qb4.jpg

I climbed out of the protection of Stalingrad's bed and started looting the dead:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/8739/ygb351ms0.jpg

There were so many bodies piled upon each other that they were beyond counting:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4432/ygb352ed3.jpg

I came across so many Controllers I had lost track of how many I had killed:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6606/ygb353az6.jpg

I found Sava Parasite the unlucky Loner and took his PDA Info and Ammo:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/9004/ygb354yl1.jpg

This was the largest concentration I had ever seen of Exoskeletons
in all of the Zone except for all the Freedom & Dutyers up in Pripyat
with both sides up there having been my Friends while this was all Enemy:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/7932/ygb355hv9.jpg

I picked up a little more deadly Radiation as I ventured off the Road looting:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5759/ygb356kp8.jpg

I looked over the Controllers, Snorks, and the Zombified Army
who had been armed with a huge variety of Ammo and Weapons:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/968/ygb357cu6.jpg

Made up of former Loners, Bandits, Dutyers, Freedomers and Mercenaries
this was the largest Multi-Factional Army that had ever marched forth in the Zone:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5285/ygb358na0.jpg

I found a dropped IL 86 that had been fired so much it was completely worn out:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5060/ygb359iu1.jpg

Found another brand new SPSA-14, lots more Shotgun Ammo, and more
standard Pistol Ammo which was really good since I was down to my original
Hydro reserve of 7 rounds remaining with more loot than I could ever carry:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5397/ygb360pk9.jpg

I stood there silently waiting and waiting letting a few more hours pass
by before I finally realized there were no more of the Zombies coming:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/8800/ygb361tz3.jpg

The Zombified Army had marched to retake Yantar and had been stopped
and defeated right here and they did not get past Captain Ivantsov's Truck
he had named Stalingrad. The irony of the situation did not escape me:

A Truck named STALINGRAD ( Act II Part 8 )

The enormity of the battle and the passage of several days fighting
suddenly bore down on me like a heavy weight. I slowly walked away
turning to look back at Stalingrad to make sure I was not being followed:
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/1039/ygb363vx0.jpg

It was strange to see after several months of two Dutyer Guards always
standing at the entrance to the Mobile Lab when winter hit they stayed within:
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3844/ygb364mm5.jpg

I turned over the dead Loners's PDA Info to Sakharov. He said there
were no more new reports of any large movements of Zombie Forces.
I had depleted the huge pile of Ammo I had saved in my Yantar Stash.
I grabbed a few Grenades and got back out my SVU with it's meager reserve:
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/7674/ygb365bn4.jpg

As I approached the Dutyers my eyes were fixed on the moving Snork on the hill:
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/9179/ygb366rk5.jpg

I told the Dutyers I was headed back up to Rostok and for them
to keep a better eye on the road and the Loner's Camp nearby:
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/1476/ygb367dx5.jpg

Leaving I met Sanyok Witcher who I told that I had added the Fuel
Stabilizer and had charged the Battery for him. The Truck was okay:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/9430/ygb368bu3.jpg

I had almost made it back to the road when my Mini-Map indicated 2
Contacts. I could see the lumbering, swaying walk ahead of a Zombie:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/1619/ygb369bw7.jpg

I tried to sneak up on him but the crunching of icy foliage gave me away:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/4251/ygb370uq3.jpg

It was a Zombified Mercenary who jerkily turned his head to see me:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/4797/ygb371zo3.jpg

We exchanged the usual type of greetings:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/5968/ygb372cr0.jpg

I turned to see another Zombie beyond the range of my Shotgun:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/5806/ygb373gf1.jpg

I grabbed the Merc's TRs-301 quickly sighting it and dropped the Zombie with one shot:
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/1357/ygb374gk5.jpg

The Zombified Bandit and Mercenary had wandered into Yantar all alone:
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/9819/ygb375rp7.jpg

I approached the Yantar Canyon and looked ahead with my Binoculars.
The Dumptruck was still surrounded with the remains of the destroyed
Zombified Army. I walked past it and over the rise and continued north:
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/7496/ygb376vu8.jpg

As I came out of the lower Yantar Valley the skies above cleared and I
could tell day from night again. Kilometer after Kilometer I met no one
on the long road I was traveing and soon I arrived at the most southern
hills of western Rostok more commonly known as the "Wild Territory":

A Truck named STALINGRAD ( Act II Part 9 )

The Wild Territory was one of the most Mutant infested Areas of
the Zone. I put away the Zombie's AK and got out my SPSA-14:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/7993/ygb378bq2.jpg

There was less than an hour of daylight left and I knew I would be
lucky to be arriving in Rostok before Midnight. If all went well that is:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/9607/ygb379ie4.jpg

I checked my PDA. It was all lit up with so many different people
wanting me to go here and there and do certain things for them:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/1483/ygb380gv9.jpg

I looked at my damaged Suits Stats. I hadn't had a good Suit
Regeneration since I had passed through this way going south:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/8448/ygb381sn1.jpg

I stepped into it and let the Burner Anomaly envelope me completely:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/1230/ygb382lu1.jpg

It felt so good to get my Bulletproof Cap back up to 75%:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/4641/ygb383nc0.jpg

I approached the Loner's Camp and saw my Friend was still alive:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/5218/ygb384yf4.jpg

Arriving at my Stash in the Loner's Camp outside the trailer
I dropped off all the Zombie weapons and made a mental note
to take all my AK Ammo & Scope the next time I went to Yantar:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/416/ygb385yk3.jpg

I continued north and went to the third floor of the unfinished building.
From the high vantage point I could see Mutants swarming everywhere.
Two Snorks spotted me and moved toward the bottom floor stairs as I
leaned over to shoot at them. I lost my balance and fell to the ground
floor where the Snorks and a Pack of Dogs surrounded me. This is
where the SPSA-14 really comes through as I got ripped up so quickly
and badly I actually had to use a few Medkits to keep from dying:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/3610/ygb386dv8.jpg

Met a couple of Bloodsuckers:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/7430/ygb387bn2.jpg

Thank You...I'll be taking that:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/9939/ygb388xr1.jpg

Ran into a few too many Rodents:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/513/ygb389vq3.jpg

Found two Loners dead with the Pseudodog that killed them:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/7558/ygb390lc2.jpg

I really needed to sell all the useless IL 86s that had been piling up:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/4492/ygb391gh5.jpg

Located a Trenchcoat Bandit and two of his Comrades:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/8/ygb392os0.jpg

Now you know what I was saving the last of the SVU Ammo for:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/9343/ygb393km0.jpg

A Truck named STALINGRAD ( Act II Part 10 )

There comes a time in the Zone when the only Artifacts you ever
still see or come across are those only found on the Dead. I took
everything but the useless Pistol and 9X18 Ammo that I had a Code
be them Friend, Neutral or Enemy, I always left the Dead their Pistol:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/1901/ygb394ru9.jpg

My kind of Loot. An Artifact, some Ammo and a Grenade:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/5657/ygb395hr7.jpg

I heard gunfire and as I approached the Gauntlet I ran into a Loner:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/4048/ygb396xv1.jpg

Found several Dead Bandits on the other side who foolishly tried to
attack the Duty Detachment. Great...now I had some Vodka & Food:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/4585/ygb397wn7.jpg

This was a very rare trip for leaving all the Dutyers still alive in Yantar
and coming all this way north and finding all the Dutyers still in place:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/7883/ygb398jw8.jpg

I stopped by my only major Stash in the entire Zone where I used a Body:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/7995/ygb399jt8.jpg

As I left the Wild Territory I glanced at all the dropped weapons of
all the Men who hard been ripped apart by Mutants at the Entrance:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/3448/ygb400mt0.jpg

I finally arrived in Eastern Rostok in the middle of the Night:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/2716/ygb401kl7.jpg

It felt so good to be Home but as expected it was mostly deserted:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/7960/ygb402pq4.jpg

I stopped by my Main Artifact Stash and dropped off some including
my Mutant Body Parts. I stopped selling all my Artifacts a long time
ago not needing the money. Collecting 101 Pseudodog Tails was Fun:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/9731/ygb403kt1.jpg

Other than the 100 Rad Bar Patrons, the Dutyers at each Gate and at
the Duty HQ, there was only a single Loner Guard in the small room
and 2 Dutyers walking about in the Warehouses. Rostok was Empty:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/3664/ygb404wo4.jpg

Gave the Bottle of Vodka to Arnie and went to my Ammo & Supplies Stash:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/6674/ygb405js8.jpg

Sidorovich told me one of my Order had passed a message to him that
I was needed to go to the Red Forest to go help escort some Loners:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/2821/ygb406nl8.jpg

I sold him 2 of my worn out Shotguns. He had nothing I needed or wanted:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/866/ygb407vt9.jpg

I prepared my Load for my next assignment going up to the Brain Scorcher
but before I left there was one more thing I needed to do at the Duty HQ:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/662/ygb408zw3.jpg

I passed through the Main Gate just after 4am. The dual Seva Suited
Guards stood silently with their headlamps still on. I saw my Friend:
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/4240/ygb409kt0.jpg

"How's Stalingrad?" Captain Ivantsov cheerfully asked holding his Tunder.
"Good...I even charged the Battery myself. Your Men said to send some more
Anti-Freeze...the usual Gas and also why you're at it...a couple of new rear Tires."
Ivantsov looked puzzled at the last request. "It's a real funny thing but the best
I can figure out is the Zombies shot up the rear ones for some strange reason."
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/3842/ygb410qr3.jpg

THE END.

Hey! On my IRL AK-47, the ejectionport and cockinghandle are on the right side of the receiver!
I never noticed they are on the left side of the weapon in the game.
That is pretty inconvenient since the firer will have a constant stream of spent casin flying past his/her face and risk hitting his/her left arm.

Is this a "feature" of the AK-74 or am I missing something?

This has been a thorn in the side of many players (myself included) since the release of Stalker.

It's not a feature, it's just how the guns have been designed.

The Government on purpose shipped all the specially made
Left-Handed Weapons ONLY to the Zone that way they can
easily track any illegal weapons that escape or were stolen.
