Log into the Zone!

I am interested in some way to mod the game into a persistant multiplayer world. I would like atleast 16 humans to login in at a time dynamically. The multiplayer maps are nice, but I wish to use a map the size of a single player map and have all of the elements of such. In fact, I would like to write some AI modules of my own.

So this is what I envision when I am done. my friends and I log into a server that has this mod. The server has been running perhaps for a few hours. Perhaps we start in some small town just outside the zone, which I have moded into the first map. In the town we gather at a bar and talk to the npc's which just happen to each sell a variety of things or know where to get them..... At some point like a bunch of noobs we go at night and sneak into the zone, looking for artifacts, finding them, and figuring out how to get them without being seen by the patrols, killed by an anomoly, etc
you get the picture?
of course outside the zone, we would like to sell our stuff, rent a place, perhaps have pets?, and buy better stuff so that we can go futher into the zone. In this game, killing isnt really the focus, its more about finding, collecting and selling artifacts and staying alive thru a vareity of goods and services from the town and the liberal use of ones iq.
logging out from such a mod would not "stop" the world or the npcs from doing what they all normally do. npc stalkers stalk, military patrols and shoots stalkers, townpeoples buy artifacts and sell stuff like some kind of mining know what I mean?
Each word should be at least 3 characters long.
