Thats a common problem with how the fog is done in the game.

Damn, really? And what can we do about it?
---END QUOTATION---

Don't know, haven't heard of a solution yet.

Btw, I just found a problem. Sometimes, I can see the sky through the objects (hills, roofs, ...). Not completely but by transparency. Tell me if it's just me.

FIY, StalkerSkies was working properly before I replaced it with your mod. So I assume Overhauled must be the culprit. I used the user.ltx you provided to double check, and still have the same problem.

Yeah, this is the problem that - at least from what i saw is connected with fog in stalker generally - my mod just uses fog to more extend than stalkerskies cycle - it is more dense and more close to you. - especially during rains and mornings.

you can try to experiment with the fog_density and fog_distance setting during those hours - this is one of the things that are still to "look into" by me before the update - but i'm afraid that without sacrificing most of the effectiveness of rains and storms it can be difficul if not impossible.

it's one of those compromises you have to make when doing weather effects in stalker - you can make them "light" or you can make them "intense" but a little buggy

there are more buggy weather features - like the entire flare system, which is unusable at the moment beacase of it's undevelopment by GSC.

---QUOTATION---
Is this compatible with Stalker Skies?
---END QUOTATION---

"StalkerSkies mod textures are fully integrated to my mod already. One of the aims of creating this mod was to was to use them to the limits and to create a lighting settings that would fit them" - this is a quotation form my previous post - i hope it clears the thing out .

BTW please, please read at least some parts of the realese post (the very first post in this thread) - i wanted it to be as much comprehensive as possible and to offer as many information as possible. please make my work have sense by refering to it

NOTE: if you're using StalkerSkies and would like to use my mod - it is ABSOLUTELY vital to do the 0.5 point of the installation order - all information is in readme (updated one) and in the realese post

dark nights quick fix uploaded!

hello

I just uploaded the quick fix for the dark nights "issue". It is available in this link:

[link] http://rapidshare.com/files/77095088/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.Weather_Overhauled_v.1.0_dark_nights_quick_fix.rar.html[/link]

just unpack it to your main stalker dir after installing my mod.

this is the cycle with the ambient lighting setting almost quadrupled for the nights and also incereased for the sunset // sunrise phases - to aviod the effect of shadows brightness not synchronized with the amount of light, the setting or risisng sun gives - they will transit correctly.

Also since I unified the settings - it is very easy to light the nights up even more. To do this you will have to change 4 sets o numbers. This is done in a very simple way. Here's the instruction:

1. open the weather_default.ltx in notepad
2. click on the upper tab button edit > change
2a. 1st set of numbers to change. in the upper slot paste this:

ambient = 0.047, 0.045, 0.042

and in the lower paste this:

ambient = 0.057, 0.055, 0.05

you can change "5's" into "6's" - or increase it by any other fixed value like 0,01 or 0,005 - just keep the proper proportions bettween the values and note that those numbers should not exceed 0,07 - absolute maximum value for this setting - i sugest to keep it significantly lower)

2b. click on change all button

3. 2nd set of numbers. again open the "change" window
3a. in the upper slot paste:

ambient = 0.040, 0.040, 0.040

3b. in the lower paste:

ambient = 0.050, 0.050, 0.050

note that this set of number should be lower than the previous by 0,01 - so if you increased the previous one more - this one should be increased equally. maximum for this is 0,06

4a. 3rd set of numbers to change:

upper slot:

ambient = 0.04, 0.042, 0.055

4b. lower slot:

ambient = 0.05, 0.052, 0.065

same rules again - you can inrease it futher but you have to keep proportin inside the set and with other sets - 0,01 difference between
this and the previous one with the maximum settings at 0,075 for the last number.

5a. 4th - the last set of numbers:

upper slot:

ambient = 0.054, 0.053, 0.053

lower slot:

ambient = 0.064, 0.063, 0.063

Remember to keep the proper differences between the sets - if you increase one iwth the certain value - remember to increse all others as well - this is order to maintain smooth transitions.

NOTE: This particular quick-fix does not change the way in which the nights are lighted up - it only lightens them up generally.
So no moon light so far - but i'm looking in a way to implement it realistically. I can't promise anything - it all depends on the sky textures - which i am unable to edit at the moment.

NOTE 2: he values obove are intented to be used with the recomended contrast // gamma // brightness settings - check the release post for reference

I hope that all this helps all of you bright-night lovers out there

And of course I will be gratefull for any feedback - maybe we can establish sth like perfect settings for a brigth night - so that they can be used in the optional cyycle that i intend to release in the coming update.

BTW i think i have an idea how to minimazi the fog-making-the-objects-tranparent issue - i will try to release a quck fix for this too - also a pre-update one.

@ admins again

sorry to bother you again with a technical issue - but is there a way to make it possible for me to edit the initial post in this topic - i have lost this ability a few days after posting it

I would lie to uptade it with all the new things that i release to my mod - to keep all the information and links in one place instead of them being scattered all over the thread

please - if you can - "unlock" this for me

Well, first of all many congrats for this awesome mod
BTW I have a great issue since the installation....I'm always surronded by radiations in every location I visit and I think that in some way is related to the mod...
I've the 1.0005 version...Let me know something about it.

Thanks
---END QUOTATION---

Can you please be more specific? What do you mean you're surrounded with radiation?

Do you mean that you have more radiation emiting places spawned?

Or maybe the radiation post-process effect is more intense near anomalies and radiated areas - it makes everything a lot brther and also adds some pixel-noise effect (like the one near the lab in yantar)?

Also if it is possible to you - make a save in a place in which you have this radiation-surrounded feeling and send it to me via e-mail

i presume you're using the vanilla 1.0005 stalker version with only my mod intalled?
your save has to be made with the same all.spawn file version as the one I use if I am to be alble to load it - so vanilla one is the best choice.

Thank you so much Trojan ! At last a weather mod with "dark enough" nights. And configurable thanks to your explanations !

This new file you provide give me the perfect amount of darkness. I tried with the tweaked values you propose too, to be sure, but the first is enough.

New file : [link]http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/3411/ssq6600121707102520l01ecu5.jpg[/link]

New file with tweaked values : [link]http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/1633/ssq6600121707102823l01edi0.jpg[/link]

Old file is just "pitch black" and "sky".

The best weather mod out there for me (with the help of StalkerSkies of course)...

UPDATE : There are places where "pitch black" is still present, no matter which values you use (ex: garbage). Let's hope you'll be able to fix this too. Maybe with moonlighting and stars?

Thx for the info and for those comparison screenshots - nice For myself - even the first file is too bright in therms of gameplay

But it's a matter of approach and i am glad the mod suits the tastes off pll with different approach

Now because you touched the "sky" matter - a little expalnation is in order - the one which i wanted to post from some time.

if I want to make the current night night sky brighter - theoretically i should increase it's color values - rgb. now they're at:
sky_color = 0.72, 0.72, 0.66
those aply to the main night sky dispalyed (the one with the milky -way which is dispalyed for the whole night appart from the storm session). So when I increase all those by 0.1 for example - it should make the stars brighter - along ith the whole texture.

But the problem with this texture is - that it is not black with white stars - it is dark blue with white stars - 0.66 is maximum value for the blue channel in this texture in which this "blue-ness" is not seen. if i increase all those values equally - you will have noticably dark-blue sky at night.

Becuase of this I can only increase the red and green channel, but this on the other hand makes everything else on the texture, apart from background (so the milky way nad stars) - appear yellow (and the bigger gap between blue setting and red // green setting the more of this "yellow-ness" . Current settings are the maximum also form this side - with the current gap this yellowness is barelly noticable - but starts to be if you increase the r and g channels even by a slight.

To make things short - I went with this particular texture to it's limits - it can't be brighter and still keep realistic colours (it's neither blue nor yellow).

But I had a little braketrought lately with my brother - in the field of editing sky boxes in stalker themselves. i think it's not neccesary to write what possibilities this unlocks

just wait and see hehe

I actually rather like being able to see the clouds through the buildins and such. The cloudy sky actualy serves to give the fog some texture and depth.

Sorry, but this isn't possible. You'll have to let one of the mods know each time you want to change something in your first post.

Changing the opening post seems to be only possible withing 24 hours after posting.

Trojan, I noticed that nights are still pitch black when it rains (storm ? as you said ?) Is it possible to make them brighter too ?

Thanks for your explanations about the sky. Since I love blue sky, I don't care if it's too blue anyway. A matter of taste, yep.

I'm impatient to test your next version.
