This does not surprise me.

CDC: The coronavirus could be 'just a few mutations' away from evading vaccines

Me neither, with so many infections, faults (=mutations) are bound to occur at a higher rate. Or the chances simply increases.

Looks like humanity is having the battle of its existence since the Black Death. A race if you may.

Well, that's the same with the other flu viruses too, that's why you have to get a new shot every year pretty much. End of the day covid is another flu virus , so it's expected to adapt in a similar way or so one would think.
I'm getting my covid shot tomorrow btw (Johnson & Johnson), caved in to peer pressure you might say
My brother was sick for a few days afterwards, wonder how I will fare.

Comparing this with the black death is a bit preposterous though.

There is the Spanish Flu of 1918 that killed an estimated 20 - 50 million people. It's also estimated that in the span of 2 years the flu pandemic lasted 500 million people got infected, about 33% of the worlds population at that time.

That's what I was thinking about too, it's the more fitting comparison.
It's gets even better when you read up on some of the happenstances back then and realize that humanity hasn't changed one bit. People refusing to wear masks etc etc.
Difference is that people who refused to get vaccinated where even imprisoned, for endangering society, in some places.

And unfortunately we have the internet with social media today so the spread of misunderstandings or even worse: plain lies are way more widespread.

It's pretty strange: People don't trust those in charge (government, health specialists and so on) but they have no problem trusting the talking heads in the media who rarely actually know what they are talking about or in worst case: have no qualms directly lying just for the sake of having people listen to them. It's like many people have it easier believing something that sounds a bit mysterious than the plain truth.

I've had my second shot a few days ago. I was a little bit out of commission for a few days.

I have to agree it may be better to turn of social media now and then. Seeing all the messages of people who are against the vaccination etc, does not make you happy. I usually shake my head and continue scrolling . It's even better not to start talking about this with them.

Anyone wants coffea?

I have a co-worker who I recently discovered is refusing to get the vaccine. Luckily all of us were sent home in March of 2020 and we have individually been working from home a.k.a. telework. In talking to him, his logic was that people who got the vaccine could spread covid-19 just as easy as those without the vaccine.

I tried to explain to him that the vaccine was not so much about spreading it, but the major reason was so that if you got vaccinated and caught covid-19 that it would not result in a serious illness or death. That didn't seem to sink in. He also admitted that a close friend of his had her son die of covid-19. Some people are just stupid especially since he has ongoing health issues.

Same over here. I still encounter people who think of the vaccine as a medicine. Not to forget, I hear and read the dumbest assumptions about vaccines. As you say, it would not result in serious illness or death if you catch it. I really facepalmed when I read about people who have been vaccinated twice and still test positive. The nurses just don't understand how it is possible.

As a First Aid medic, I am instructed by our Orange Cross not to do mouth to mouth when performing CPR. I got attacked by several co-workers when I told them about it. Saying I am a bad FA medic because I will let the victim die. They'd rather do it, get infected anyway rather than let the victim die.

One of the co-worker did catch it and was seriously ill for several weeks. Talking about karma.

Well, having a cold and a gum inflamation (which spread to my ear) and then getting vaccinated is not a good combination. I was pretty much out of commision over the weekend and am on sick leave this whole week.

I'll have some coffee too Mr.M
