Hi there! Just came by to say that you've done impressive work. I'm having fun replaying the game with your shaders. Good to see someone continuing Sky4CE work

By the way, what is the purpose behind contrast filter in SSAO algorithm? You know, that option that makes the image darker and raises contrast. Is it there to make dark SSAO stripes blend with with surroundings better? Or for something else? I've never been too familiar with shader making, so I'm quite oblivious to reasons behind this part of SSAO effect. I just switch it off all the time because overly high contrast levels are never looking good. Am I breaking something when I do that?

Oh, and before I forget - I've wanted to suggest some tweaks for lmodel.h, simple improvement for reflectivity output. Are you interested in such?

Hey BAC9-FLCL, good to see you're obviously still alive after all those years!

Thanks for your post and your suggestions. As for SSAO / contrast, that part (like most of the shaders stuff in my mod) doesn't come from my feather, I believe it's Sky4ce's code, and I've no idea what he or whoever implemented this intended to achieve with it. The comment to that option in the config just says "Increase texture contrast for diffuse lighting", so I'd guess it's meant as a fine-tuning of SSAO rather than a work-around to the stripes. But that's only my idea, not sure about that.

As for lmodel.h tweaks (or any other improvements), yes I'm absolutely interested! However you should know that, as said above, I only extended the original shader pack, thus touching just those files which I needed to implement my stuff, so for most parts of it I have no deep background knowledge on how it works in detail. But could you send me a mail or post your tweaks somewhere so I could have a look into it?

Basically he seems to be using my/kingo's shaders; I downloaded what I calls "Beta shaders" and compared with mine and there's virtually no difference at all! So, given that source it's definitively not possible.

No idea where from he has the additional things he wants to do - if it's really possible (with the injection thing he mentions or whatever hack he's using) - that would be awesome and for sure another big boost for ShoC's graphical power. However, until I get a testable download version I'm sort of skeptical...

Not without creating xr_render3.dll and modifying the engine to use it, plus SoC was developed on XP, and DX10 doesn't work with XP, despite all the compatibility patches out there.
Most likely faked. Enhanced DX9 most probably.

Would be my guess as well. However, some faked effects or enhancements would still be worth looking into it IMHO. Let's see what he'll come up with

Little OFF, but as i searched for eyecandies for Stalker, i found this:

Subpixel Morphological Antialiasing injector

Worked well with Stalker, performance impact is friendly.
