Yeah, unfortunately here in sunny South Africa, we pay through our noses for bandwidth and buying the disc is literally 100 times cheaper

romulous, there is a strange coincidence that every time I linked to ZSG, it then went down for a month. But now the site name itself is apparently no longer registered.
---END QUOTATION---

Hm, that is interesting! (lol, I know who to blame now). Sadly, I think the site is gone for good now. I did a little while ago grab a rip of the actual site content (minus the forums), so I at least have a copy of the pages/images/videos, but there was a lot of info in the forums that has gone The ZSG lifeboat forum isn't very active and the other alternate (the roleplay forum, newly setup by the guys from the lifeboat forum) isn't very active either.

---QUOTATION---
Also, be sure to enable the show_hit_damage variable in xr_motivator.script. It will show you when you are actually doing damage to the NPCs. Note that it doesn't show when you struck them but did no damage; to show that you'll have to edit the file. You can also show what bone was struck; some bones are invulnerable (e.g. fingers, toes), and a lot of bones are invulnerable with the MonoMartyrs themselves.
---END QUOTATION---

With the 'NPC is invulnerable while in their hit animation' bug, what should this be showing? Nothing I assume from what you wrote above.

---QUOTATION---
I think the triangles appear when the renderer is not properly initialized. Alt-tabbing might increase the likelihood of occurrence.
---END QUOTATION---

When I had the bug with my old nVidia card (6600GT I think it was, bug no longer happens with the newer cards), Alt+Tab was the only way to trigger the bug. I think the console command vid_restart also can fix the bug, without having to exit SHOC and restart.

---QUOTATION---
There is a script function to bump npc and mutant bodies, and one to bump boxes. Should I make these debug functions? Currently you can use z.bump() and z.bumpbox() which default to bumping stuff within 10 meters, but you can use a parameter to increase the radius of bump, and another to increase the force.

They are separate functions simply because the applied bump impulse needs to be large for bodies, but small for boxes and metal cases. But I can combine them. The bump function takes an optional force parameter, but that's making it even more complicated. Maybe a multiplier?
---END QUOTATION---

Bump as in 'NPC is standing in the doorway and won't move, so you can bump him out of the way so you can proceed with the game'?

I'm no killer, really! I didn't kill the Freedomers, the bloodsuckers did! Master and Smartass got pwnd by two very angry boars, Scarecrow and Gusarov lost their respective battles to Bandits, Vampire got shot by his own camper buddies... I swear I had NOTHING to do with that.

"Yeah! Yeah, that's the ticket!" Oh, wait, notanumber, you're Scandinavian. Hmm. "That's my story and I'm sticking to it!" Oh, well. Just know that I laughed.

Re suggestions for Lukash modified GL quest: Try the pellet gun. I never managed a good gravity gun. Yes, I can push stuff with lots of force without damage, but the resulting movement will inevitably introduce the object to virtual reality: "Crate, meet rock. Rock, cra-- ...That wasn't nice, rock."

---END QUOTATION---

No, Storm Shadow State, my "if I live" was a reference to life's fragility. A car crash, an earthquake, a wife jealous of STALKER (just KIDDING! --Mostly.) -- lots of early ticket punchers exist. And there is always the total cellular apoptosis at the end, or the lack before then known as cancer, or even the flu or the possible followup of pneumonia.

From my sense of humor's viewpoint, I'm the one that's warped. Was that crack because of where I put the modified grenade launcher in the demo? You did find it, I hope. Hey, I now suspect that the diamond was meant to be an upward-pointing triangle (like the downward one), but the image rectangle reference is too large (XML fix?)... Thanks for the feedback.

just downloaded zrp but i don't have a modifier.exe file. i have modifierhelp and modifiernotes. deleted and reinstalled, but the file is still not present. little help please...

---END QUOTATION---

You are probably using the Smart Mod Manager to install the ZRP, sabbybklyn. The recent versions no longer copy the Modifier.exe program (which would appear as just Modifier in the default configuration of Windows to hide known extensions) to the gamedata directory. You would have to extract the archive first, make your modifications via the Modifier in the archive's gamedata subdirectory, then install that modified archive with the SMM.

For best results, I recommend the ZRP 1.05 Test R10 version, not the deprecated 1.04c. The demo is good, too, and it is something you can install over your game at a later date if you want the additional support, like the tougher enemies after the game ends.

Pssst! Let me tell you about the Modifier's real secret! It works if you copy it to the installed directory, too, but the SMM won't know about it, so you will lose your changes should you decide to uninstall or add other mods via SMM. The external archive modifications are safest, especially if you use other mods.

Dont you want to hold your disc in the air and shout from the rooftops that you are holding a piece of the future of FPS gaming....
---END QUOTATION---

What's scary, Vintar, is how prophetic that statement might be. "Everyone says that FPS gaming went the way of the dodo and the DVD. That's not true. Thanks to organic forensic analysis and recombinational genetics, there's actually new hope for the dodo." PCs are losing the battle of the big bucks, owned solely by a dying breed of folks neither big-biz Morlocks nor consumer Eloi. Maybe autoaim will home in on the solution for consoles.

No, actually quite the opposite. You aren't doing as much damage as you would expect, but it isn't zero, most of the time. Try it and see.

Re vid_restart for rain triangles: I've not been able to get that to work, but I do have old drivers for an old card. Maybe that should be the suggested solution, now that you and Storm Shadow State have mentioned it.

---QUOTATION---
Bump as in 'NPC is standing in the doorway and won't move, so you can bump him out of the way so you can proceed with the game'?
---END QUOTATION---

No, the reference was to bumping "NPC and mutant bodies". Make him a body, and then you can bump him.

But you can switch him offline temporarily, walk past, and phase him back into existence. Or just use the Esc D F debug command to get past him (quicker, though not as satisfying). I've tried persuading them with logic, but it just makes them complain without budging. The only thing different from reality is that the complaint is in Russian.

NatVac~

Hope you're enjoying our fine Texas weather.
Congrats on getting the recognition in CoP.
It's available on STEAM now I heard.

I've already spent over 3 and 1/2 months Game time
with the Russian version of CoP with the English Mod.

If you talk to any of the ZSG guys tell them
that they are more than welcome here always.

Shame about the ZSG SoC Archive. If we had only known
that was coming we could have tried to keep it going somehow.

Gotta get back to Jupiter. Got some Bandits I'm trying to protect:

Bug in bind_stalker.script

Not sure if you can be quick enough to save game when npc punch you but if you can then this may crash the game. In save() method:

...
if self.st.disable_input_time == nil then
  packet:w_bool(false)
else
packer:w_bool(true) -- typo! should be packet not packer
  utils.w_CTime(packet, self.st.disable_input_time)
end
...

disable_input_time field is set in function _g.set_inactivate_input_time() called from xr_effects.actor_punch() which is called when npc punch actor ("punch" animation in state_mgr_animation_list.script) - that is when you abuse npc (for instance by trying to talk with npc without holstering your weapon)

Finally, even if you fix aforementioned typo, in load() method:

...
local stored_input_time = reader:r_u8() -- <-- here
if stored_input_time == true then
  self.st.disable_input_time = utils.r_CTime(reader)
end
...

We saved boolean value (true/false) but we read it as byte, so if we saved false then it will be read as 0, 1 if we saved true. Both 0 and 1 are not equal to true thus if value true was saved in save() method, time in load() method won't be read at all so other data from packet will not be read properly. Also self.st.disable_input_idle should be also saved and loaded.

SHOC is now reinstalled, so I shall be trying it shortly. I also picked up CoP a few minutes ago - as TS stated above, it has now been released on Steam. If you have SHOC or CS on Steam as well, you get a $10 USD discount on the price of CoP, from $29.99 to $19.99 (I'm an Aussie, but Steam still charges us USD for purchases out here). I wasn't going to get CoP (sick of being a bug tester for GSC), but I was bored witless, so I thought "Why not?". I'll have to keep an eye out for your name (also as referenced above)!

Edit: Slightly OT, but it seems (according to the CoP forum) NatVac's and a few other names are in the CoP manual. As the Steam version of CoP does not come with a manual - making it virtually unplayable by the way, as the interface is again different to CS which was different to SHOC with the result that you don't know what any of the icons on the HUD mean or even simple things like 'how do I holster my weapon' - I won't be able to see them. Or play the game, can't work out the interface. Five minutes in, and I'm ready to return it - only Steam does not allow you to return a game you have purchased.

Well, the record-breaking foot of snow is melting, Tejas Stalker, but the damage is still being repaired. I lost the Internet connection for almost a day (oh, the horror! --not) and we had intermittent power problems (okay, now I'm ticked) but quite a few others in the area (you?) are still without power. We lost a third of an older tree in our front yard, which probably means a complete replacement, and we also lost a couple of large limbs from live oaks front and back. Still, no car or roof damage. The neighborhood really looked like a war zone the day after: a few large trees split down the middle, blocking roads or even crumpling car tops and leaning against power poles.

The credits in CoP seem to be a copy of what was in CS. I think I'm only listed there because Don Reba kindly pointed me out to someone in The Ukraine.

And I'll pass along the invite to the forum folks at the ZSG 3.0.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
I consider my ADD a strength, Fredy. I'm also possibly HFA (essentially Asperger's), with a 39 on the Baron-Cohen Autism Spectrum Quotient (the norm is 20 or 22). In person I come across as "blunt", "cold", "distant" apparently, although I'd say I was being direct, truthful and more interested in something ... more interesting.

It took me a very long time to figure out that when folks asked how you were doing, they really didn't want to know.* But on the Internet no one can hear you scream if the microphone isn't hooked up.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Re Bug in bind_stalker.script: Yes, barin, Cpt. Borovich reported the bind_stalker.script packer typo on 24 July 2008 (page 102 this thread), but there wasn't any followup research; the "method on nil object" crash was not happening in 1.05 Test R10 and now we know why with your investigation. Thanks for letting us know. The Test R11 and the demo RC1/RC2 versions already have the typo corrected, but not the mismatch on save/load that you found.

Since the 0 or 1 are not true (because comparing different types always returns false), it would never try to load the following disable_input_time variable, and that could cause problems. But it is possibly never true; the _g.set_inactivate_input_time() call performs a level.disable_input(), implying a keyboard and mouse lockout.

This same function is called for cutscenes. I don't know what keys work, but maybe quicksaves are disabled so the crash doesn't happen in vanilla. I'll make the adjustments in case it can. Again, thanks for reporting this!

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Thanks for posting the link to the ZSG lifeboat forum, romulous. On the manual: I would have expected a PDF file in the Steam archive. There might be a separate download there for that. Given the nature of the game, not including a manual sounds like a novel form of DRM.

One of us, one of us!

Ahem.

Found a small error in the latest ZRP while mucking about with the PDA map recently: the l12_stancia and l12_stancia_2 entries in game_maps_single.ltx have the same bound_rect and global_rect values, which causes the entire NPP to be labeled as "NPP North Side" on the Zone map.

(Feel free to smack me if this has been reported already.)
