Is the "bcdedit /Set IncreaseUserVa 3072" "fix" helpful for those of us running Vista 64 with large amounts of ram?

I'm running Vista 64 with 8GB of ram (see sig), and I still get very frequent CTDs and/or monitor goes black and system stops responding while playing Stalker 1.0004 and/or 1.0006 with the detail settings maxed out.

I have to turn the settings pretty far down to have a somewhat reliable game, which kind of upsets me considering I built a very high end system.

Does this fix help guys like me?

PS. What version of video drivers do others with nvidia cards run?

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yes, this fix should help users of any flavor of Vista.

With that video card's RAM, you might want to experiment with an even larger allocation of memory for applications running on your system. It can take it.

Just as a side note, after using the fix, I noticed a little bit of an FPS boost, did anybody else?

I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit Service Pack 1 with 2GB of RAM, and I can run the game with maxed out settings on static lighting, fine, even with lots of mods. However, turn on dynamic lighting (even with the lowest possible settings, 800x600) then the game crashes with an out of memory error after about ten minutes, and I find that stalkers, items from crates, and mutants are "late" in spawning, so I can walk around an empty camp, and then they pop into existence much later.

I have done the command prompt bcdedit /Set IncreaseUserVa 3072 and it made no difference at all.

Do I need more RAM?

The bcdedit command should fix the normal "out of memory" errors in Vista. And 2GB of RAM should be enough.

The late spawning is not so much a RAM problem as it is an issue with dual-core or multi-core processors, which seem to have spawning threads stall in some cases.
