Please Help - Agr Underground CTD

Hi, hope there is anyone who can help.

I have en-counted a show stopping bug. When I try to load the Agropom Underground level it get's as far as client sync'ing then CTD with no CTRL-V error log and an empty xray_yourname.log

It makes no difference if I start a new game, walk to the level changer near Mole and enter, or use the ZRP Teleport to go straight there, same crash. Funny thing tho, I tried entering from the other end, level loaded fine, I could take on the controller then turn left and take on the nearest soldier, but after only a few steps into that room, CTD with empty error log again. I don't know what that means

It also makes no diff if I have quit_on_abort set to either true or false in _g.script.

I have been trying everything I can think of, I have rolled back to various good versions of my all.spawn and still no change, I have been reverting all my recent script changes and still no change.

I suspect it is a script issue, I am now going through every .script change and reverting back to previous version to test, but this is a painful process, so maybe someone might be able to point me to a certain file or let me a way I can force an error log.

If only I could get to a stage where it would give me an error log and I would at least have something to go off.

Before anyone asks, yes I do have an nVidia card on an ASUS mobo with a core 2 duo, if that makes a diff.

Hope someone may have seen something similar before and can help shed some light for me, many cheers in advance, Shadow.

Shadow, it could be anything. Try think harder what you most recently changed.
Or more specific what special things happen down there like the dude with the storming abakan or perhaps you changed streloks stash.

i know what you mean, but these are things that should at least give me an error log on CTD. I have double checked my alife_l03u_agr_underground.ltx file in all.spawn and it's not that either.

I've only seen blank crash log reports with two categories of problems, although there may be other causes.

A blank log indicates that the exit out of the game bypassed the normal error handler (the infamous BugTrap dialog is part of it), so the log was not flushed (completely written) to disk. This means the error occurred at a low level in the game's engine or support DLLs, or even in the drivers.

One problem category: driver bugs or incompatibilities, or bad parameters passed into low-level support routines. Low memory conditions could conceivably bring about this kind of crash, although they are normally caught/reported and the log closed.

The other issue is a modding issue, generally, in that a mistake in the definition of an item or entity or particle effect in the configuration files results in the inability of the engine to process that data in a manner that permits the reporting of the error.

It could be a mesh, or a model definition, or an inventory item on a bandit. It could be an item in all.spawn. You could probably triangulate on it to some degree because it probably crashes when the item is switched online. But the Agroprom underground doesn't provide much territory to get a "fix" on the location.

I'd start by commenting out those items, effects and non-player-character types that you added to the game. Think of what you would expect down there, like bandits and Electro artifacts, and maybe bloodsuckers. Something close to "Mole's" entrance, something within switch_distance of that spawn point in the Agroprom underground.

When you get it working again, start adding stuff back, bit by bit until it crashes. Then look to the visual (Edit: or other online-related) stuff of the last item(s) re-added for the error.

thank you again Nat, again you gave me the tools I needed to hate fish!

I systematically lowered my switch_distance while working backwards through the level. I had to put the switch down to as low as 5 metres then I could approach from the normal direction too to get a 'fix' (well a 'cut' at least) to within about 10 metres and using esc D to get the co-ords. Then I could find the culprit bandit in all.spawn and his respective char profile, fix the error and now it works.

Thanks again, now I'm off to unwind with a run in the beautiful hills of my country. Shadow.

EDIT:
it was the little fucker that normaly spawns here:

You are welcome for the tools, but you did the work. Excellent memory, by the way.

'Tis a brilliant use of your knowledge there, Storm Shadow State. Quite Sherlockian deductive and detective work.

If you happen to see this reply, I sure would like to know what kind of bandit configuration would cause a crash so severe that there's no log flushed to disk. Was it a mesh? A weapon? A bit of undigested beef from last night's sup, perchance?

NV, TBH I don't actually know what the exact cause was. Once I eliminated down to which bandit it was, I checked his char_desc and just removed a couple of modded new wpns that I had in there. Don't know why that fixed it, as those wpns are sweet as and work every where else in my game. I don't actually have a backup copy of my old char desc file, so I can't compare the changes.

From this thread of mine a while ago:
[???] Crash with no Error Log - WTF???
https://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr&thm_page=117&thm_id=18154&sec_id=16&page=1

I've had this problem before, but it was always random. This agr undergnd one is the only time it's been consistent in one place. So, it may rear it's ugly head again in my future, will have to see.
