[???] Crash with no Error Log - WTF???

What would cause a crash that has nothing to paste from the clipboard, a completely blank and empty log file and no bug trap either?

I am really at an end here, I don't know what could do this to me...

This can be a problem with textures.

Normally when you restart from the last save point, it will work.

With weather - you get a no-log crash if you missspell a name of a param for ex. you type fun_color instead of sun_color. Another way is to set one of the params to have too much digits for ex. sun_color = 0.5687424, 0.568745, 0.0498462 (I think four digits after ',' is max for the engine to handle).

Generally I think that no-log ctds may come from syntax errors in ltx's (althou other reasons may be possible as well).

hmmmm, maybe, but I don't think this is it.

It is very weird bug. It started a while ago, and at 1st I thought it was a new smart_terrains.script that I was using, reverting back to an older version seamed to work at first. Then it came back, I thought it was the pysdo giant causing it this time, don't think so now, I never changed anything to do with him. So I thought it must be somthing to do with modding while still playing and not starting new game.

Next thing I did was remove AEM mod from reb. Tested with a new game and it worked fine, 100% saves, arny, fights, everything back to vanilla arena. So at the end of my test I shot a stalker in the bar and CTD. Error log was for a script that wasn't part of AEM anyway (xr_effectors), but that pointed to another script I had removed (xr_cond), so I replaced it with the one from ZRP. That fixed my CTD and I could shoot anyone in the bar.

Now I found that the only save that would load was my autosave at the bar level changer, other saves would crash with no error log. But, if I moved a few metres towards the bar, then crash with no log. Same if I start a new game. So I wondered if I could travel to garbage, no, crash again, and plus that lost my only working save file too!

So, now I can't even start a new game and have no indicator what is going on at all... Maybe if I upgrade all my scripts to latest ZRP, this might be it. I have a feeling that the last time I tried to merge ZRP 1.05 into Reb, I know that I did it wrong, but I think I stuffed up my back up version by merging some of the files into my back up instead of my working version.... Maybe this is the reason, if so, maybe a full ZRP 1.05 merge will fix it (which I'm gonna do anyway), but I would rather have this bug sorted first.

If I can't fix this, then Reb will die.

Edit: I kinda answered my own question there... I've found that xr_logic.script was the culprit. But I think this must be due to a mixed suite of ZRP scripts, so only a full ZRP merge will tell for sure.

Anyway, Reb still lives yet!!! Cheers Troj & Thunder Freak anyway.

Something is bugged, bad ltx or script or all.spawn (dunno).

Possible reasons of 0kb log:

The error is too complex and it crashes the game even before it could write it to the logfile. I think there is some kind of error what the core cannot react with printf, possibly the developers did not prepare for errors like this. Well I'm just guessing. This should be something similar, however there might be many unseen reasons why the game fails at logging or even before that.
Obviously you did something wrong what you did not notice, so the only way is look deeper inside the files or just simply rebuild the mod from scratch, add stuff one by one and test it correctly.

Just to throw out another possibility, SS, just incase it starts happening again . . .

Either bad DRAM or overloading the DRAM (overclocked DRAM or BUS, adjusted timings, etc.) can cause such errors, too. Something gets skewed, and the engine just freezes . . .

Anyhow, hope it doesn't resurface, though

i've found a real show stopping bug in my build. It's a crash with no (blank) error log, but it is not random. It happens everytime i load the Sarcofag level and always happens within 18sec of play. it dosn't matter what i do on the level, i can try to get as far as i can in 18sec or I can stay put in the starting location for 18sec. it will crash every time, without error log.

I have double checked (by reverting to vanilla or ZRP files) of both my character_desc and all.spawn files for this level. And reverted all actor models back to vanilla. But that's not it, still crash within 18sec (and new game was started each time - then ZRP teleported to level).

I suspect it could be to do with somthing that spawns on that level. But what spawns on that level exactly 18sec after level start?

Anyone have any ideas of what this strange yet specific bug could be?

Yeah, about that much time, but a little earlier. The Call of the Monolith starts playing as per normal.
