Latest Tools for modding
UPDATED-LIST
It's not the most user friendly tool in the universe but it still allows us to modify the 'all.SPAWN' file to a certain extent:
It's called XVI32: Download and/or learn about it here:
http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm
---
If you'd rather not have to wander aimlessly through your 'all.SPAWN' looking for your previous changes, you can also grab a good HEX comparison tool:
It's called Araxis Merge: Download and/or learn about it here:
I haven't been able to make any actual changes with the new 'all.SPAWN' using Araxis but it's a great comparison tool - which might help you locate your changes quicker and easier.

The following program lets you search/compare and edit most of the file types used by Stalker. It features a very efficient search engine which will rip through the entire DB set in minutes, while rooting out single words.
It's called Total Commander: Download and/or learn about it here:
http://www.ghisler.com/download.htm
---
A program called Winmerge also deserves a mention: Download and/or learn about it here:
It doesn't feature the complexity/options of Total Commander but the upshot is that that makes it extremely easy to learn/use.

UltraCompare & UltraEdit
UltraCompare is a good and easy tool to compare files and folders, you can also delete/copy/paste from/to files in this tool.
UltraEdit is a tool that you use with UltraCompare to edit files.

---
Notepad
is a tool for xml and lua coding. Its really good and im working with it since my first days in the SoC community. Never experienced any problems with it. If you select the right language all commands were highlighted.

I would like to see a Thread in which the latest versions of the tools were linked. Maybe all of them should be uploaded on a seperate site (file-upload ?) because most are linked to some russian sites, which block most of the time the downloads.

I did try a similar idea the other day...maybe the thread name wasn't appropriate or something - plenty of views but no input. Anyway, because I'd already done it, this is a direct and unashamed copy/paste from that thread, as well as some additional tools:

I find "Ultraedit" to be pretty damned good. Open multiple files in the same window, great filesearch function for strings/words, and a file compare tool.

I googled it and unfortunately all I can find is an old xrspawn thing from Russian sites, but not the new beta everyone on here says exists. I would like a link as well if it isn't too much trouble. I like this idea of a Mecca for all modding tools. We already have a thread on HOW to mod, now we need one with the equipment to do it.

^ I think you can forget about it being a complete list. It seems as though there's a 'tool' being emailed around here among 'special' members that is a 'secret'.

Ive heard that the newest version of the xrSpawner should be xrSpawner v0.13.1 Beta. But im unable to find it on the www.
The only version im able to find is 0.13 Beta. But beware the 0.13 version is a not working version, it corrupts youre all.spawn and creating a serious npc bug!

Therefore it would be cool if some of you could load up the newest version of the xrSpawner and post a link in here plz!
I cant download anything from the russian sites, there allways blocking my loadings.
Without the up to date tools im unable to beginn my work.
