Call of Chernobyl mod (Official Thread)

That's exactly what I'm finding in the Army Warehouses with Freedom
& Bandits neutral, a bunch of dudes just standing around doing nothing.
Ideally if the Bandits & Mercs were neutral than it would make sense to
replace the Bandits in Dead City with another Faction to make it better.
It really makes no sense to me, for the small number of Bandits who have
no chance to defeat the Mercs, to continue their unprofitable suicide attacks.
What would make more sense is for the Bandits to be replaced with the
Monolith Faction coming from Limansk and the outlying areas. They are
fanatical enough to attack the greater numbered Mercs, or even having
the Military replace the Bandits, who would be ordered to retake Dead City.

It's all a matter of personal preference and certainly with your Bandit
experience ( more than anyone else I know ) you have a good grip on
what you like and what would be the most fun. MY point of view is
simply if I was a Bandit, I would want access to what the Merc Trader
sells: all the scopes Susat & PSO, all the rare guns and ammo, the
best armors in the Game compared to the narrow items of Skinflint.

Replacing the DC Bandits with Monos or Military would be alright I guess, I'd just hate to see an action-filled level reduced to a boring one in order to smooth things over between Mercs and Bandits just because they were pals in SoC. After all, it's not like criminals or mercenaries have a history of shifting their alliances or anything.

Them being neutral to Mercs for the sake of trader access doesn't really appeal to me either, as in Bandit-mode I'd rather keep the Mercs as a source of free loot instead of a paid shopping destination. I'd rather have Freedom as enemies as well but it's tolerable enough as-is, and if it was too irritating I'd simply change the relations.

From previous experiences with Loner games I always thought that making the Mercs hostile to them would make for a more enjoyable experience, as the Loners have things incredibly easy with the current setup. Aside from giving them more enemies to fight (not to mention the old "it was like that in the previous games" argument), cutting off their easy access to the Merc gear would be a good way to add a negative trade-off to a faction that seemingly has everything else going in their favor. Somehow I doubt you'd like that change as much as I would, though.

Is anyone experience begin as Monolith in this mod ? Actually i mostly wanted to play as Monolith this mod but i can't leave Misery 2.1.1. because of liking Misery's 2x Master difficulty and different AI. Monolith is fun. I've enjoyed playing all the factions.

Monolith can easily explore seldom seen territories. They gear up quick, short hobo stage, get high end free guns from corpses (gauss and val drops). However, they have few friends or allies in the zone, very few stashes on Monolith territories, and not many task givers or safe havens.

CNPP & Generators are fairly quiet, so once explored there is not much there. Jupiter and other lively territories make up for that.

The game is a little tougher with 1.5_R6 Beta as the developers removed many of the free guns etc. on the locations. Shop prices also went up. Currently playing "Z" faction (essentially same as Monolith).

Tried Monolith for a second run-through when the mod originally came out. Set off with a crew down to the Cordon loner village, came home alone.

Call of Chernobyl mod (Official Thread)

So y'all had me intrigued about being a Monolith so I decided to start a
new Game in my existing 1.4.22 Game and see what I could see. I had
not made it to the upper most levels in my previous 1.2 & 1.3 Games
before I had trouble with them and they no longer functioned. It's my
fault for not going there sooner rather than putting it off for months and
months until I had problems where I couldn't. But anyway back on topic.

I started out as a Monolith with an AKSU at the CNPP in a leather jacket.
Quickly found the Skat-9 right outside the Sarcophagus hangar door in
the back of a truck. Saw two Military around the corner fighting some
Pseudogiants. I waited until the Pseudogiants were killed then ambushed
the Military Exo and regular. Snagged an AN-96 and AK. Both worn down
from killing the mutants. I also started with a scope but had no real ammo.

Explored to the east and found a Berill-5M armor inside a bus. Got close
to the BTR-70 and it fired at me. Why? Was this Military and unsafe to
get near? I didn't see any Soldiers by it. Explored to the west and found
a brand new AN-94 with scope and a new RPG-7. Since all my Faction
was already green I was able to hire 3 Companions right away: Armed
with 2 RPG-7 and 1 SVD. Didn't see a Trader, Repair Tech or important
NPCs in the level. I was allowed to enter the Sarcophagus but my 3
Companions immediately panicked at the brain scorcher hallucination
mutants, fired the RPG-7 at them, hit the wall a few feet away and all
3 were killed. I guess I shouldn't go in that direction. So I'm assuming
there is no support in the CNPP level. I know there's no help in Zaton
so I'm assuming that Pripyat is my only hope for a Trader and an RT.

Any tips or insight would be appreciated. Who is best to sell my mutant
parts to? Where is a good base to work from? Where are some Traders?
Where are the Repair Techs and leaders? No one offers any jobs I've seen.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like nice to me. So what are the relations between other factions. Are all factions enemy to Monolith or is there any difference of their. Also are Zombified Stalkers neutral or friend to the Monolith

Tejas, that account of companions shooting at hallucinations had me laugh out loud.

Pripyat is the only area with trader and repair support for Monolith (or Zombie). BTW, as a Monolith the Zombies were neutral in 1.4.xx. As a Zombie in 1.5_R6 the Monolith are friends and companions [EDIT: but only the Monolith trader gives tasks]. Forester won't like you, but will still do repairs and upgrades. Tough situation in the new beta 1.5_R6 game, armor is worn, expensive to repair, and I'm waiting for the trader to offer a sewing kit.

Not sure if hostile scientists will pay you for parts, probably not. Did get Cardan to take a repair kit when I was a Military (1.4.xx), but he wouldn't do any work for me. Kept a stash on the ship. Visits were entertaining, some run, others fight, and you might get punched.

COC 1.4.xx still has vanilla stashes and items on CNPP and Sarcophagus, like that scoped AC96 (a favorite), RP-74 & binoculars at a military camp, plus lots of armor (used to go around back and pick up all the exos). Beta 1.5_R6 rebalanced for more misery, removed almost all of these goodies, and lacks old exploits (chatting with NPC to change gun quest item, the recharging repair kits, refresh trader inventory with save/load).

The more I hear about 1.5 the less I want to play it.

I don't understand the effort for it to be more like Misery...

After all we are already getting new versions of Call of Misery based on CoC.

"Will the real Call of Misery please stand up?"

Two Games stand up.

Sakharov won't be buying parts from the Zombie faction. He was red hot angry and shouting, ran out of the bunker, and punched my guy on the way out.

Freedom faction gave the most satisfying play, recently. Lots of neutral factions to befriend. Visit Nimble to order special guns. Lots of Traders and technicians to work with. And some weird situations, with "friends" fighting "friends", or encountering a group of friends with some enemies mixed in.

Nimble guns are unavailable for Military-Bandit-Monolith, and don't show up in stashes. That is on my want list, like to see some unique guns in the rare stashes, or as rare Trader items.

And some factions don't have as much to do. Monolith-Zombie is probably the worst that way. Only one Trader, and his first mission is to clear the Swamp fishing village. Those factions are even less rewarding after most "free" items, guns armor etc. were removed from CNPP (1.5 Beta).

One recent oddity, Zombie spotted neutral bandits at Dead City, but they turned red when some Monolithians shot at them.

Found more Traders for Monolith

Pleasantly surprised to find another Trader who will buy artifacts, PDA's, and offer jobs to the Monolith (Zombie) faction. Getting paid 4 Ru more for each faction patch too. Beta 1.5_R6 Zombie has visited 27 levels and wonders how many jobs must be done before Zombie is friends with another faction.

One error, the first important Monolith trader mission, conquer territory (Swamp fishing hamlet), always fails when the Zombie player leaves Pripyat. The similar important mission for Monolith players works fine.
