I'm about 60 days ( Game Time ) into the old ( but new to me ) 1.4.22
version. I'm somewhat surprised to find so many things bugged or not
right, but on the other hand they are tiny little things that I can either
ignore or they don't affect the overall Game Play. On the bright side I
see many improvements and enhancements so overall I am very pleased
with the 1.4.22 version. It's not as hard as the 1.3.19 version I played
for almost 10 months but I'm sure the majority of the people wanted that.
I will be posting my list of all the good and all the bad things that I see soon.

Yeah, balance in 1.4.22 is too easy. 1.5 was shifted to a more long term play style; something you'll probably prefer.

Having fun with 1.5.4r. Found a repeatable crash, which is probably a known issue by now.

How to crash the UI: pistol in left rifle slot, pistol/knife slot empty, drag a rifle from the right slot to the left slot. The rifle disappears. Press "i" and the game crashes.

Tough game early on, before finding anti-rad artifacts, as clearing radiation with vodka makes the player hungry.

Found 4 or 5 advanced toolkits before the first basic toolkit (numbers balanced out more in time, 5 basic and 7 advanced so far). Jumped right into doing the second tier upgrades. Perhaps the basic kits should be more common, and the advanced kits harder to find.

You should install 1.5 in a different folder so you can check out some of the added features without having to lose your 1.4 game and saves.
It has some interesting features added that are worth a look. I have a COC folder and in that a COC 1.5 & COC 1.4 folder.
I tend to only play 1.5 now as it's grown on me and I prefer the slower journey from the games newbie start to being a high powered Stalker King.

I like playing as a Clear Sky member but I swap the relations around a bit so Freedom go from enemy to neutral and the Mercenaries go from Neutral to enemy.

That's a good suggestion but I have a tendency to do best just focusing
on one Game at a time. There's certainly an appeal to start a new Game
because sometimes the best part of any Game is the early struggle, also
known as the "Hobo" phase where you have crappy weapons and armor.

As I've only tried the Loner Faction, certainly I'm leaning towards trying
another Faction. While I like how the Clear Sky Faction has all those
unique armors, sadly there is not enough variation between them. For
example the high end CS armors should have 5 artifact slots ( instead of
4 ) that are only found on the mid-range suit. I wish we had the CS-1
armor from Clear Sky and not the flubbed mistake one from CoP being
considered better when it clearly is not. Likewise creating a CS Exo
defeats the purpose of having all those other suits. Basically in CoC
people go from a starter armor to a short-lived mid range ( or not at
all ) until they go ahead and get the Exo used for the rest of the Game.

As you have noticed, sometimes choosing a Faction is based on your
relations or a desire to alter them. I still have trouble being around
Freedom and having Bandits among them who are dangerous to me
but are oblivious to them. Seems like the Mercs would have been a
better choice to be neutral to Bandits ( like in SoC ) instead of Freedom.

I was wanting to try Clear Sky next but then the appeal of the Ecologist
Faction is strong, being neutral to the Military. I've always wanted to walk
around the Military encampments and see what they do in peace time and
see what their Trader sells in the Agroprom. CoC Faction choice is great.

Mercs and Bandits being neutral in CoC will always be a terrible idea because the combat between the two factions in Dead City would cease. It's a much more interesting place with them at war than it would be with just a bunch of dudes standing around.

I preferred the Bandit relations in the old version back when they were hostile with everyone (more action when playing as one), but them being neutral with Freedom is a decent choice. Playing with the current relations as a Freedom-neutral/Bandit-hostile faction like Loners you simply need to get used to looking for Bandits when approaching Freedom camps, which is a pretty easy thing to do.

Thanks. All of my videos and play-throughs: 1.2, 1.3 and now 1.4, are
done with the basic Call of Chernobyl Mod without additional Mods added.
I do this so I can evaluate what Team Epic has given us and share my
thoughts, screenshots and videos so that people know what to expect.

That's exactly what I'm finding in the Army Warehouses with Freedom
& Bandits neutral, a bunch of dudes just standing around doing nothing.
Ideally if the Bandits & Mercs were neutral than it would make sense to
replace the Bandits in Dead City with another Faction to make it better.
It really makes no sense to me, for the small number of Bandits who have
no chance to defeat the Mercs, to continue their unprofitable suicide attacks.
What would make more sense is for the Bandits to be replaced with the
Monolith Faction coming from Limansk and the outlying areas. They are
fanatical enough to attack the greater numbered Mercs, or even having
the Military replace the Bandits, who would be ordered to retake Dead City.

It's all a matter of personal preference and certainly with your Bandit
experience ( more than anyone else I know ) you have a good grip on
what you like and what would be the most fun. MY point of view is
simply if I was a Bandit, I would want access to what the Merc Trader
sells: all the scopes Susat & PSO, all the rare guns and ammo, the
best armors in the Game compared to the narrow items of Skinflint.
