gamedata\config\gameplay\character_desc_general.xml

That's presuming it is the same as COP and there's no other factor involved with vanilla.
I know this does it for the mods I have used in SHOC.

Except that I already said that I checked those files and it ain't in there, unfortunately.
You'd reckon that it wouldn't be too hard find when you start the game with a dolg scientific suite, a pkm and an mg3 (got oblivion lost installed), as well as a bunch of artefacts.

Starting equipment is set in the all.spawn, so you'll need to decompile it, make your changes and recompile.

well then you need to look a little harder. DE is right, if its not in the character_desc_general.xml then it's somewhere else. you must have a custom version of OL because the one I have gives you a novice_outfit and little else. In my version its spawned in the all.spawn.

look for some custom file, perhaps some kinda cheat script that gives you all that stuff. get Agent Ransack and use it to search your gamedata files.

if it is the all.spawn, remove the "[dont_spawn_character_supplies]" from the actor section and then you'll be able to use the character_desc_general.xml

Right, I'll go try that all.spawn thing, but I don't have the tools for those yet, so it probably was something else.
But I guess it never hurts to try, as long as it fixes the problem.
In the worst case, I'll have to reinstall the mod/game.

I guess that ransack thing might be another option.

In any case, editing all.spawn to remove that line would definitely be the easiest way of changing stuff a la CoP.

Is this a second dig at my post in which I was trying to help?

Try comprehensive reading.
Editing the character_desc file would be my prefered method, but in my original question I already stated that wasn't the case because all.spawn still contains that line disabling that method (and I tried adding stuff that way but it didn't turn up in-game). Ergo, the stuff got added somewhere else, but I'd have no idea where.

Right, thanks angrydog.
I've managed to find my older editing with that ransack thing, and I managed to change all.spawn to allow CoP-style editing.

What exactly is the deal with certain textures having "halos" around them? Mostly noticeable on arm textures and such, and sometimes stalkers. It's sort of like the texture/model should be larger than it is and it's sort of overlapping. I assume it has something to do with the bump mapping not matching up with the texture.. is this the case or is there something else?

Good question - I've noticed it too - kinda assumed it was a deliberate thing to sort of emulate ssao effect or something but to me it looks cartoonish. Aaargh! - maybe that's it and it's deliberate (Borderlands = VOMIT!! )

If you mean changing the head a NPC has you need to open up the mesh in a hex editor and change it. Alternatively you can take whatever corpse looking face texture you have and rename it to a head texture used by a NPC, that'll work too.
---END QUOTATION---

Thanks ket - I've noticed that killed npc's do use different model to the living one - do you know what/where that is? - I'm guessing I then just need to do replacement of texture with that bloodied one I've found.

Silly question but I've dearched and searched and can't find it - so figured that perhaps someone with experience poking about in scripts might have tripped over what and where it is.

In many mods there are blue storage boxes and rucksacks scattered about.
Most are always empty.

Questions:

How do you add items to these boxes and rucksacks?
How do you identify their locations within a map?
