I have a feeling that these files are similar to Source's .GCF file types.

Not sure, but if they're anything like that, then you can't really mess with them. Maybe the SDK will just produce a new one for mods and such.

I will be upset if i cant extract those dba's and rebuild them together after editing sum things. I want the SDK sooo much....more then i wanted this game. It better be a great SDK because this game has had its let downs, and it needs mods to improve certain areas.

Ive been digging through the structure of these files, they look like storage units and do not look compressed. Its just a matter of separating the data for extraction, I hope.

It might be a proprietary form of compression or storage, meaning it was developed in-house by GSC. If this is the case, they would possess the tools to extract the files from the archives. Taking a look at "fsgame.ltx" clearly illustrates the file structure of the game:

---QUOTATION---
gamedata
ai
spawns
anims
levels
meshes
shaders
sounds
textures
scripts
config
savedgames
logs
screenshots
downloads

STALKER is using LUA, yes? If I recall, Far Cry used LUA too, and if this is the case, once we have the tools to access files within the .gca archives, one could jump in and start modifying many aspects of the game (possibly weapon damage, things like that; people who dislike the "arcadey" feel of combat could change this!).

Edit: Seems like a lot of what I said just now had been previously mentioned in this thread.

Hopefully they release the SDK ASAP. I know the game has only been out for a day or two but I believe if they dont release it soon they will lose sum sales revenue. I know groups of people who wont touch this game until they release the SDK, its sad and stupid but true. Every modder out there cant wait to get they're hands on it and tweak/mod to they're personal liking. Whether its expanding the world, enhancing textures, fine tuning those sounds, the list is endless. If anyone gets any information on how to extract those .dba files please pm me I'm highly intrested in this game.

I have a feeling it might take a while to get the SDK. I remember, Boiling Point never really had its SDK released like promised, and I think that contributed to the death of the community surrounding it. Hopefully STALKER's SDK will be released quite soon - or at least a few tools to extract from the .dba archives!

Yeah, I just want to be able to edit the scope sprites so they are round when running widescreen. That doesn't seem like too much to ask.
