Artifact Issues

1.4002 (1.4005 will appear shortly)

;-- *************************************************************** --
;-- * ARTEFACTS THAT CAN ONLY BE PRODUCED BY MERGING * --
;-- *************************************************************** --

This^^ snippet from the gamefiles (artefacts.ltx) then goes on to list various arts - many with a 'recipe' - that may or may not be created with a Merger.

Amongst these you will find:

Compass
Snowflake
Flame
Bubble (Baloon)
Firefly
Rock
Liver
Bouquet
Cuttlefish
Soother
Ball of Twine

..and so on.

Now I do not dispute that most of the early ones in the list are "cookable" if you buy the recipe.
Nor am I critiquing in any way the lack of recipe for the unobtainium that theoretically can be manufactured by the player..
Nor would I wish to spoil anyone's playing fun by mentioning any "new" artifacts. No.

My point is the following:

I can buy a recipe for Liver, Bouquet, Cuttlefish; but it's a waste of skin.

Luring wildlife into the weak Vortex near the Bar (easy after Duty push off to Outskirts) triggers pretty regular fallout of - Stone Blood, Meat Chunk, Soul, Liver and Cuttlefish, with occasional Devil's Guts, Crescent and Gold Beads..

On the way from Dead City to Radar: luring the piggies into anomalies between the road and the Bandit Village, got me a Crescent and a Ball of Twine FFS. (I know that these arts were NOT present before pigkill - because I was running my actor around with "detector out" and nothing registered before pigshatter.

Waaaay back in Forest, in Music Village, while doing a "sanitization cleanup" prior to rescuing some twit; I had the good luck to find not just a Night Star in a Springboard - but also a Spring practically in the same location.

If the 'spawn' for Spring is "radiation_average", how might this be explained?

Just started D.C. and luring wildlife into anomalies is something I'd never have considered - thanks for the tip.

It's just - something you DO.
It follows from Bloodsucker Village in SoC. Sure, you can blast / drill the bloods, but it's more economical to play to their weaknesses and run them into the Electros.

With the NEW artifact properties in LADC you can build a respectable Rupture immunity pretty easily (provided you allow for health and bleeding issues)

Then you can take on mutants with the knife.
Even chimeras.

Have fuunn!

Artifact Issues - Unusable or nerfed rocks.

I get it that the devs want a more proactive ecology with the artifacts as far as the player might be concerned;

That the Sauron's Eye, Crescent and maybe others are unusable bc of a scaling error (the hunger factor is messed up);

But what's with the nerfing of the White Sun? Or the Devil's Guts?

Considering that both of these are available from Artifact Fields in Outskirts or Generators, WTF is the logic in degrading their properties?

Why bother exploring a map for something that has all of the comedy value of a plastic dog-turd or a rubber crutch?

Look, it's your game, Dezowave, why shaft it?
