Dino's (very) short stories.

So I've been bored in class and got interested in the Zone again, so I figured, why not try writing more?

So this is it: I'll be using this thread to dump short stories I write up. (constructive) Criticism is welcome and wanted.

I would ask you to please let me know if making this thread is in anyway wrong.

Also, is it in bad taste to delete one of my previous stories and add it to this thread? Should I just quote it?

Well, let me know what you think.
---------------------------------------

“A while ago, almost last year now, there were rumors all over the Zone, from the Bar to Yanov, about a certain stalker. Now, although he was no rookie, this stalker wasn’t necessarily a master at finding artifacts or a famous mutant hunter, no, he was just your average loner. These rumors, which blew out of proportion, were actually about something pretty trivial. Well, for the Zone at least. You see, this loner was only special because he had burns across the right side of his face and his right arm. And again, the burns aren’t something very uncommon in the Zone, but since nobody knew how he got them, people started speculating and, eventually, everyone had a theory.

The most common ones, often told with lots of energy, were the ones of incredible heroics or feats. Many believed the scars were etched onto his face when the stalker was looking for artifacts in the boiler, where he managed to get his hands on a fireball but after having chased it through one of the erupting flames. Some had a theory that he went on a daring raid but was ambushed at a gas station, which bandits had rigged to explode. Others thought it was when he first tried getting into the Zone, at Cordon, where he was spotted by the military. It never really made sense since nothing there really could’ve burned him, except for maybe some land mines, but if he really did step on one of those bastards, he wouldn’t be stalking, let alone walking.

Huh? What was my theory? Well, I never really thought of one, since I never really had the time to. I actually found out what happened. It was pretty easy too: all I did was ask him. He said it happened a month or so after he found his way to the Zone. Once he found a couple of artifacts and settled at the loner base. Anyway, one morning, shortly after dawn, he set up his little gas burner and stove-top espresso maker, with some of the only real coffee in the Zone, but as the water started boiling, the burner just exploded.

That, my friends, is how he got his scars. You don’t believe me? Ask him yourself. He’s near the Bar now and still makes espresso every morning, except now he has an electric burner and always carries a fireball.”

-Story overheard inside the 100 Rads bar.

Well, for now I guess I'll just quote it, but this was written a while ago.

---QUOTATION---
Strelok's dream

I could see a fence with a radiation sign on it and an old abandoned factory, then I saw a man and I knew it was Strelok even though I could only see his back.

In the distance I could see a huge pack of rats running in his direction as he pulled out his rifle and started raining lead on the rodents. For every rat that fell, another took its place and the distance separating Strelok from the rats was diminishing rapidly...

Some voice then called out for him s=as he shuddered and started turning around, I could almost see his face when I was woken up by a Duty guard screaming: "GET OUT OF HERE STALKER!"
---END QUOTATION---

Where's the damn edit button?

Anyway, working on the next story, but having trouble accessing the site from home, so I'm not sure when I'll post it. Hopefully the problem will fix itself, but if not, I'll use a proxy.
Also, if I fugre out where the edit button is, I'll use this post, to save space.

I was about to hijack your thread and post a small one-shot of mine, but I thought it would be nicer to ask for permission first.

Very late reply, but please go ahead and post your stories too.
The one I was working on met with some complications, and until I can get my hands back on my old SoC disk, inspiration will probably run low.
