The old man spoke of another odd thing. Back in the days when he was still scouring through the tunnels and labs, he had come across some very sensitive data. Something about how the three of the most dangerous creatures were connected. Them controllers, burers and poltergeists. Bures are supposedly a degenerate case of a lab produced controller and the poltergeists are a attempt to forcefully make natural born controllers *ascend* to a higher plain.
Probably just the ravings of a old mad man but then again, there were a lot of weird experiments being conducted in these here parts.

My first try...

"There was one time, about 7 months ago, I made a find rarer that practically any creature or artifact. No, it wasn't some one-off creature, gun, or artifact, it was a stalker...a female stalker! Of course, you couldn't tell by looking at her -- she wore a SEVA suit, and never spoke much; she was usually alone. She carried either a pump shotgun or a G36...I can't remember her name, but I don't think it was her real name anyway.

But I was just rambling...anyone, one day she approaches me and says she needs help rescuing a friend, captured by bandits. I agreed of course, and we set off immediately. But when we got there, he had already been killed. Just...wow, was she pissed. She charged headlong into their camp, blazing away. She killed nearly 30 of the bastards before she was finally gunned down...full of holes, and half of 'em weren't fatal. Good thing the remaining bandits only had sawed-offs and pistols, or I'd have been the same...but I managed to keep the last few off.

But what a waste! Yeah, you might expect someone to go down like that, but to fucking bandits? Ugh...But she made a lasting memory. If only every poor bastard caught by a bandit ambush was able to take that many with them..." -Unknown zombified stalker

Another...

"Stuck in a hole...door won't hold up long...I shouldn't have trusted that asshole...set off a bunch of mutants and ran off...I managed to gun him down, but now I lost my gun, and I'm trapped in this shed and surrounded by PsuedoDogs...They usually don't get pissed off like this, but then, I've never seen one with pups before...shit...plus the dog's stomach is growling louder than her throat is...it's only a matter of time befo--" PDA found near half-eaten corpse.

Every once in a while you might have noticed that upon entering the bar you get chills running down your spine or something of the sorts. It is a little known thing that a controller inhabits the lower levels. No-one really knows where he came from, at some point he just sort of integrated himself. Now some of you might say this is utter nonsense but next time you are there, take care to notice the behaviour of some of the regulars and the relative ease of mind the staff treats most threats. Tread lightly

Swamp Song

Listen, I know there are a lot of bizarre Stalker myths out there, but unlike most folks I have actually seen the evidence for this one myself. And as an Ecologist I encourage you to take it to heart, since you may be able to make contact with the Zone in a way no others have before.
Anyway, here's what I know: this very inexperienced Stalker wanders over to the Eco base in Yantar asking about bloodsuckers and their ways. Now this is very different than the usual "drinks on me I just capped a bloodsucker" reaction, so I'm immediately curious about his curiousness.

"I don't know if I really saw what I think I saw yesterday, but I think I saw three bloodsuckers sitting around a fire way the hell out in a swamp north of the bandit offices in the Dark Valley," he blurted. The kid'd never been anywhere near there before, but some lead on an artifact stash got his blood flowing and he made the trek.
He goes on to say that after a real nasty hike through some of the worst swamp in the Zone he was surprised to see a light off in the distance, and on getting a little closer he was sure it was a campfire, but he couldn't make out whose. This was so far from any regular camp that he was afraid he'd run into some Monolith psychos doing who knows what out there, but the info about the mystery stash made him grit his teeth and crawl on.
When he was about 30 yards away, he heard the telltale grunting of a bloodsucker, and from the look on this guy's face I knew he pissed his pants. But here's the crazy part: this kid swears up and down that after the hiss he heard a couple of random, nonsense honks on a harmonica, and when he got his vinegar up to really close in, he saw three bloodsuckers at the fire, just sitting there! Well, he said one was standing and looking around, but the other two were just crouching and hissing at each other by the fire like they were just hanging around on a night off!

Now the kid should be dead right now, as close as he is and no less than three bloodsuckers fifteen yards away, and you should have seen his eyes when he told me his PDA started beeping with a message right freaking then! Look, I told you he was inexperienced, right? Who knows how this guy is still alive... But instead of rushing right over and ripping him to shreds, he swore all three looked right over into the rushes where he was hiding and took off into the night, in the opposite direction! The kid was sure they'd flank him and do their thing, and just about had a heart attack waiting for them to come back. But after an hour of lying there in the muck there was no sign of them. He wanted to check out the fire, but was too frayed to risk them still roaming around and made his way as quickly as possible back to the Bar without looking back. The whole episode left him so flustered and curious that he asked around and eventually made his way to us.

Now, listen: even though, professionally, I doubted the accuracy of certain parts of the kid's story (namely the harmonica noises) I got the kid to show me where he thought the fire was on the satellite images, and beelined it there with two other guys without wasting a second. I had been in the area once before, two years ago, and was pretty sure I could find the spot. Sure enough, near a telltale copse of swamp tress in the lee of a huge boulder, we found the remains of a tiny fire on a muddy hillock, days cold, surrounded by bloodsucker tracks and some scratches on the trees. The kid had something going, and I thought that would be the end of it.
But imagine my surprise when I notice, dropped into the hollow of a rotten stump, a harmonica! Now I'm not saying I think some talented bloodsucker was playing a tune that night, but the whole thing's really left me wondering about those tentacled aberrations out there, and just how inhuman they really might be...

The roads you know are but a few amidst the many and varied paths that run through the ZONE. Most are only known by the creatures of the ZONE or master guides, the few lucky bastards who have managed to survive in the merciless conditions for most of their lives. If there is a safe path to somewhere, they know of it.
Once had the good fortune to overhear one sittin next to a campfire. Man looked old as hell but damn were his reflexes sharp as ever, eyes and ears constantly scanning the surroundings, that aside the point though.
Some of the other loners had persuaded him share a few secrets. He told of a small path the warehouses leading down to the train tunnel, the one with the collapsed opening in the old military compound. He said that it would take you right pass the monolith patrolling RF, also that there was a concealed entrance to one of the abandoned labs, should you have enough balls to go there.
Not sure whether he was leading the men in to a trap to secure his identity or whether he was actually telling the truth. He also said that he has not been there since the last big emission, so even if he was telling the truth, it is highly possible the tunnel is riddled with anomalies. I will say though that it is worth checking out.

Man! Every once in a while I run into a spot in SoC where I'm like, "are you kidding me? This is a dead end?" Perfect spots for something to be, but there isn't. In the Red Forest at the Monolith Outpost, there's a door that always bugged me until I found out that it was going to be another Lab until GSC cut it. Bummer.
*BUT that old STALKER in your post could be talking about a path from the train tunnel, through the ruins of that lab and straight to that door! If only...

Not really 'folklore' but too short to justify its own thread

So. Another misfortunate soul has stumbled in to the ZONE.
What is it that you seek here, you poor kid? Wealth? Power? Fame? Believe me when I say that you will be lucky if you find none.
How many stories have you heard of people, who come out of this hell-hole, yet alone live happy lives later?
Sure there is plenty to be gained here, you could become richer, more powerful and more famous than you could have ever imagined. The ZONE however gives nothing for free, even freedom comes at a price.
How much are you willing to sacrifice, how far are you willing to fall to achieve that which you dream of?
I too once came here, in search of freedom. The pursuit was long, the things I had to do. So many…so very many lives worthlessly wasted, people betrayed…good people. Freedom I sought and freedom I finally got, freedom from the outside world, from the law of man…only to become a slave to the ZONE. Only then did I realize what I had become. Not a single day goes by that I do not wish I could undo all which I had done.
The ZONE will eventually drain you from your humanity… leave you a empty shell of who you once used to be. The more you want, the more She will take from you, from who you are.

You are still young, if you have any smarts, you will leave this place before you begin to descend into the darkness.

Ok, after reading some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. books, I gathered a story or legend about Semetsky
You all have heard about Stalker Semetsky (Семецкий). You receive messages about his death. And not only once but every week. Do you want to hear why?
Just after Zone appearance, stalker found out that they receive strange messages to their PDAs. It always contains information about Juriys' Semetskys' death.
Noone has found out where from those messages come. They tried to block these messages, as they became more a spam like, but they appeared again.
It always contained name Juriy Semetsky, time and reason of death. Everytime it was different. Once he got eaten by blind dogs, next time got into anomaly - everytime different, as I already said. For example, yesteday he died because of food starvation.

Most interesting - he cant be found on stalker global map. You think it is some kind of PDA virus?
Maybe, but nobody knows how to get rid of it. Still, they somehow are a bit useful. They gave traders an idea to send such messages if stalker dies. With his name, time and reason of death.

But returning back to Semetskys' deal, rumours are he got to center of the Zone, or as other know it - the Monolith. But Monolith can make any wish to become true, right? So, Semetsky reached it and made a wish - "become immortal". But what he received - different death every week. Thats why you all get messages about his death.
But to die again, you have to be brought back to life. Who knows how he can do that. Maybe Zone do it? Similar like zombies. Anyway, this is just legend but who knows. There always is a bit of truth in every legend, right?
