P.S.: Who here has ever fired a Magnum 44 or a Desert Eagle with .50 Action Express rounds?

I've got my 44 mag. Taurus on the 1st page of this thread. Yeah, it's loud, but since it's ported the recoil isn't really any different than my Ruger 357.

Haha I hope you're joking. I've heard that even in russia, deactivated ones only pop up every now and again, and even when they do, they go for around 10,000 US dollars.

That being said, my uncle said he knew someone who has a vintorez here in the states. I think he's ex-military or something. We also live in pennsylvania which is a class 3 state, meaning it's perfectly legal to own full auto guns, such as the vintorez. If everything goes according to plan, I might be able to live out my dream to see and hold one in real life. I don't plan on shooting it though, considering the ammo is literally impossible to find.

As for a makarov, a very good "friend" of mine just bought one last night. I was there for the purchase. It cost $385 . Thank you 2nd amendment!!

I searched the web and found nothing on VSS guns, no price list, nothing. I mean, are they really that much better than the US guns to be this rare and hard to find? Hell no, so why are they hard to find?

Well the only reason why it would be illegal is because of it being made after 1986, and perhaps because of that ban on importation of arms from russia. However, if you were military or ex-military and acquired the paperwork necessary to own one, then it would be legal.

Once again, I hope you're not being serious. It's not like these are Ak47's where everyone and their mom has one, and there were millions produced. The VSS is just a rare gun, used by russian special forces, which makes it hard to find, especially for US because we're not allowed to import russian arms. There are a few in existence in the US however. So maybe if you're lucky, you'll run into one of the few lucky guys in the US to own one (which I would give an arm and a leg to do )

It's also unfortunate that no airsoft companies have made any good replicas yet. I'm still waiting for that day so I can snag one

Well, can't you go to Russia and buy one, if you have a class 3 license? Or that'd be considered importing a gun as well?

No. Importing means importing.

You can import some types of guns, such as hand guns, but the mess, paper work for both countries, and the taxes would make it a pain.

Any full auto gun made before 1986 is ok, anything after is not. No more full auto guns. Nada. Never again. This is why the price is so high for the current ones. There aren't any more full autos being made. The price of a quality new AR-15 is $1,200. A full auto M16 is around $10,000 minimum. And that is going to be a 23 year old gun minimum.

Now, if you have a special license (are a firearm manufacture), then you can build them. But this isn't simply submitting paper work. You actually have to show intent that you are making them. Think Magpul, Bushmaster, Colt, ect. Not your average Joe.

And you can't just "buy a gun from Russia". Do they even sell guns to non-military organizations? I don't think so.

VSS and whatnot are made in extremely limited numbers. Unlike AKMs (the 1959 AK-47 revision), which were made all over the world. China, Yugoslavia, Poland, Pakistan, Bulgaria ect. made AKM/AK-74s. That is why there are a lot of them. Only Russia made the VSS in small numbers for elite SF units. You won't be finding them anywhere.

And no, they aren't better than American guns. The only thing Russian small arms are good in is reliability (well, usually). Otherwise they're usually inferior to other weapons. The VSS still has an awful safety design, similar to the AK. Would not surprise me if the ergonomics are as bad as an AK.

As for AK-74s, I want to get one to. 5.45 is cheap now. Just remember, most of the ammo is corrosive.

Tantals differ from normal AKs in a lot of ways. Different safety selector, integrated grenade launcher, I think the gas piston is different, and other things. But they are decent AK-74s.

I bought a Mosin Nagant 1891/30 on Saturday. Will have it before the end of the week. Got it for $100... was a beater. Don't ask me anything else, because I don't know it. It was an impulse buy. I decided to wait until ArmA 2 drops in price, but wanted to buy *something*.

Also, Saiga is importing guns. AKs in 7.62x39, 5.45, 7.62x51, .223, 12G and some other calibers. Dirt cheap to.

About $400 or less for a Saiga in 7.62x39 or .223. Spend $200 on conversion parts and a gunsmith to switch out the ugly stock, and you got yourself a new quality, Russian AK for $600. An AK that comes off of the production line the AKs for the Russian military do. Beats $600 rebuild AKs.
