More for show w/ the scope than anything else. Pretty hard to target w/ that big ass barrel w/ a big ass scope on it but it looks intimidating!

Damn, that revolver could probably leave a huge hole in one's body!

Wow, nice AK there! You've got world's most reliable gun now!

Had a few double feeds.

Needless to say, my confidence in the weapon isn't as high as the internet made it out to be.

It truly is a primitive 1940s weapon. But I like it anyways.

As for the other guys pic, one is a Mosin, another an Enfield, and the last one is a K98K.
---END QUOTATION---

Y'know, I was going to introduce them properly and totally forgot about it!

The one on top is a Mosin-Nagant M1891/30, made in Izhevsk, Russia in 1943. It's an utterly typical example of a midwar-production Soviet rifle that was put into storage following the outbreak of peace and then refurbished some time in the '60s or '70s. The brass caps on the upper handguard probably aren't original and the bayonet doesn't match. Despite being the longest and heaviest of the three, I find it very comfortable to use: being left-handed, the short bolt handle is easier for me to reach than the curved handles of the others.

The one in the middle is a 2A made by Rifle Factory Ishapore in India in 1964. The 2A (early) and 2A1 (most common) are 7.62mm NATO adaptations of the Lee-Enfield Mark III* in .303, built as a stopgap while India transitioned from the SMLE to the FN FAL. It has an utterly atrocious coat of rough black paint on just about every exposed metal surface, plus a military rack number on the butt and a repaired spot on the forward handguard - this is not a 'never issued' rifle by any stretch of the imagination.

The one on the bottom is a Karabiner 98k with a 1942 Mauser Borsigwalde receiver. It's a perfect example of the Soviet captured K98s which seem to be most commonly available right now: not a single part matches - I've identified components from JP Sauer & Son (later of SIG-Sauer fame) and Steyr (later makers of the AUG) among others - and the metal and wood both have thick, rough finishes. Despite that, all the parts fit together very well. The action is built like the proverbial tank, though the rifle as a whole is the shortest and handiest of the three.

I'll try to get some footage of them in action the next time I'm at the range.

Polish Tantal

I'm in the market for an AK-74 and I'm thinking of buying a Polish Tantal (but I've heard they're pretty heavy). There are lots of them here in the States to be had rather cheaply.

Anyone have any Tantal stories? Recommend or dissuade?

Can you get a sniper rifle in the US if you have a class 3 license? Also do you have Vintars, VAL's and SVU's for sale in the states? If so, how expensive are they? Specnaz weapons are cool!

P.S.: Who here has ever fired a Magnum 44 or a Desert Eagle with .50 Action Express rounds?

your a lucky lot,

It took me a great deal of time just to find my Makarov pm, cost me a fortune because i also had to pay for deactivation thanks to Australian laws.

I would love an AK74 but getting one of those here is simply impossible, the best i can do is either a deactivated or replica AK47. I am thinking of getting one later in the year and replacing the crapy wood with plastic furniture etc.

Would also like to get a couple of bakelight mags for when and if i get the AK but again, finding things like that here is near impossible.

Ill try and take some pics of my makarov pistolet when i get a chance but you lot already know what they look like.

Sniper rifles are generally bolt-action or semi-auto, so you wouldn't need a Class 3.

Vintorez's (Vintorezii?) and VAL's would be more problematic due to the integral suppressors, not to mention the fact that SP-6 ammo is 1) extremely expensive, and 2) has overwhelming armor-piercing capabilities.

I actually bought my semi-auto AK online. All you need where I live is a licensed dealer willing to accept the transfer.

Here's one of the Tantals I was considering.
