NPC detection just too high

Hiya all.

I've only found one mod out there that alters the NPC detection rates, and it looks from the comments that it goes too far, with NPCs not noticing being shot in the face from a few feet away. this isnt what i'm after, but at present the NPCs detection skills are in my opinion ridiculously high. I'm playing it on Stalker difficulty now as suggested in order to improve my own accuracy, and im still haaviong trouble with agroprom I'm tryuing to get in to get the documents, but the place is full of military and all my saves there start weith the damn alarm already on for some reason (is this a bug? I tripped the alarm, reloaded a save from before i tripped it and it weas still going in the earlier save).

Anyway, i got tired of dying over and over and thought 'maybe I'm doing this wrong. maybe i need to go back to Cordon and just do a bit of looting or what have you and save uo for a better suit and better gun etc.'

So my new plan was to simply get out of the Agroprom base and back to cordon. i didnt want to go the underground route, so I made it to the exit (unguarded one) and started to make my way round the outside of the compounds wall. Its night, by the way. There's no moon, I'm crouched, moving right up against the wall and Im actually IN a band of thick shadow. I turn the corner and way weay off i can see the flashlights of 5 or 6 military. Thery're miles away, really. And yet in moments they have seen me and are attacking. In any other stealth game i have played, at that distance, with the lighting conditions and the cover Im in, they wouldn't have seen me. This is especially annoying because i much prefer to stealth through games than run n gun them.

What i'm hoping for is that theres a line in the game code that controls the NPC detection levels that i can manually change. Does anyone know of this?

Any other advice on my problem would be appreciated as well, as long as its not 'lrn2play' style insults lol. The stealth in Stalker seems borked to me.

I've just found a thread from 2007 posted by me with the very same problem lol. it seems I just have to run in like a loon and then run away again.

I suggest going through the underground route because you can find a really nice AK-74 there. (Unique fast firing one.) If you haven't got it yet, it's in Strelok's stash.

EDIT: Watch out at the exit, you'll meet something nasty.

Strangely, their seems to be a variable in stealth mode. I've done just as you did in Agroprom but VERY carefully and was able to watch the Military guys for a long time. Don't let their light hit you from ANY distance and you seem to be safe (reflections? - I don't know).
Stealth IS in this game...but it ain't easy.

For remaining undetected&stealth when you start with a save-game, the location of the save-game should be far far far outside any enemy-area, enemy-sight, possibly(!) enemy-contact.
In the vanilla-version there is a "save-bug" that alerts any enemies around you even if you was completely stealth before the save.

(sorry for my bad english)

Even though the enemies can detect you so easy they're really stupid and all you have to do is just wait for them to come around corners and let em have it. I'm speaking of human enemies not mutants. Mutants are quite unpredictable. Especially the bloodsuckers. Like how they run up and attack you then run away. The same thing happened to me at Agroprom. After exiting the underground area I was immediately detected and I ended up having to kill everyone in the base. If you wait too long before escaping they will all come back though. And being stealthy is extremely difficult. I hid in places I know they wouldn't have found me and they all came walking right to where I was. That's what makes them easy to kill though.
