Upgradin processor help!

Ok, here's the deal. I have a fairly decent video card (Radeon HD4650 Super 1024MB) and RAM (2GB DDR2 533). But my processor is lacking. A crappy Celeron D 3.06 GHz, FSB 800/533MHz. What I'm concerned about is whether my processor is holding back my gameplay quality with Stalker. So, my motherboard can only support these processors; Pentium D 900 series Dual Core
Pentium D 800 series Dual Core
Pentium 4 500
Pentium 4 600
Celeron D
I'm thinking of upgrading to the Pentium D Dual Core 960. I just want to know whether it will be worth it or not? Should I upgrade, or won't it do much?
Thanks

First of all, I`m sure a moderator will tell you this is the wrong section.

But to answer your question with a statement told to me by a sagacious old fart on this forum "Dont waste money on archaic hardware"

I am in the same boat as you IE: needing to upgrade my MOBO, and I do agree to a certain extent with "The old fart" that you should not throw good money after bad. But, if you only have money at the moment for a processor upgrade and are impatient like me, then I say go for it, not that I think it will make much difference.

Just ask Tejas Slacker, who like me use a Pentium 4 3.o GHZ and we both have no problems.

Thanks for the help.
Yeah, I had a feeling it was in the wrong section. I'm new if you can't tell.
But I'm still not sure. It's just that, my graphics card and RAM are fine, I should be able to run games a lot higher and smoother than what I run them now. I run Stalker at medium and it still has a relative slow frame rate, about 20 - 27.
I just thought that if I went from a Celeron D 3.06GHz, FSB 533MHz, 256kb L2 Cache to a Pentium D 960 3.6GHz Dual Core, FSB 800MHz, 4MB L2 Cache I would get a much more improved gameplay.
Are you sure it wouldn't help?

Lol, TS has had more crashes than anybody on these forums, all because of his ancient rig. I have some too because of my 2 year old rig as well. The thing is, the older the comp, the more it will crash so all of us need to upgrade our comps asap.

Actually you are completely wrong. My computer never crashes. And if you read my post, I wasn't asking about that at all. Not once has my 'ancient rig' crashed while running any game. Stalker, Fear, whatever it may be. It is a very stable system. Now answer my real question or go away.

Once you have a good video card and plenty of ram, a slow CPU will
give you a little bottleneck. I have noticed a smoothing effect and a
little speed boost from doing just such an upgrade. If you think it's
worth your investment...go for it. Besides, newer games will just make it even MORE "worth it" later.
