TS, yes I agree it was hard when I first started playing.

Not once did I think, make it easier!!

I dont like playing easy games, I lose interest that way.

When the OP looks back in a few weeks time when he is able to take out all the millitary with just a pistol and jacket, he will see how ridiculous his request was.

I never expected sympathy and will not dish out any

Make Novice easier please

busetibi & Vintar~

How can you be without some understanding and sympathy?

Think back to when all of us were Rookies and we met Petruna and
his two men to go to the Bus Depot to rescue Nimble and we all got
our ass kicked by the Bandits before we realized how hard the Game
was. Sure we had our crappy Shotgun and PMm Pistol but the Bandits
with Vipers and AKs tore us a new one. I remember I couldn't even
see where all of them were and I thought wow!... this is a tough game.

For this very reason we all know that you will die quickly in the Zone if
you act like Rambo. You must use your brain to think about your angle
of attack, use cover and get better weapons. So please do not be so
hard on newcomers and try and remember we all started as Rookies.

---END QUOTATION---

how can I be without understanding or sympathy?
because the first time I played through SoC was on Master and I thought it a walk in park, so much so that I almost binned the disc.
but what saved the game for me fatrap as I picked up his FPS R&G mods and lately Nightwatchs excellent NEWSA mod.( version 3 release imminent)
like I said in my initial post it may seem a harsh comment but.....
I'm a FPS gamer and have been for over 15 years, starting out lanning with quake/quakeworld and finishing playing Q3AOSP CTF comps for seven years, I'm not interested how pretty a game looks, I want challenges, something that makes me think outside the box, If I want any easy game I'll buy Barbies Horse Challenge or something along those lines.
might be a good game for someone in this thread to try.

The Game may seem real hard at first but it is not as easy as a lot of
other Games. You can't just stand out in the open and fire a few shots
at the Enemy and expect them to die.

---END QUOTATION---

I'm not. I usually find myself hiding in buildings near a doorway waiting for the NPCs to come in and then I blast them ijn the face with a shotgun. It works, but its a tad boring. However, beibng in the open at all is a death sentence as they can see me from miles away and my accuracy at any range is shit.

---QUOTATION---
To begin with you have to use
cover and get behind things to protect you. Try using crouching and
low-crouching to make yourself a smaller target while at the same time
that increases your accuracy while shooting.

---END QUOTATION---

I'm already doing

this.
---QUOTATION---
Learn to use Bandages
and Medkits quickly by hotkeys so when you take damage you do not
die quickly.

---END QUOTATION---

I'm doing this as well, but it striikes me as a bit ridicluous to rely on spamming medkits and bandages to surbive. To ghive an example, Im currently stood atop a building in the agroprom complex with about 8 military coming up the staitrs. When they all rush up the stairs onto the roof Im dead unless I just run up to them and spam around 20 bandages while I shoot them all. Everyone's bleating on about how fun the 'realism' is, and then I can run around in a firefight and not die because im spamming a button?

---QUOTATION---
The weapons you start with are weak and not as accurate
so try to get better weapons from looting the dead. Don't just shoot at
the Enemy anywhere but concentrate on headshots that are a lot more
effective and deadly.

---END QUOTATION---

I am. I'm not brainless lol.

---QUOTATION---
Keep in mind that being killed so easily is actually
what makes the Game so fun because it is NOT easy and makes you
use your brain to think about your attack and not just standing out in
the open and shooting the Enemy with ease.

---END QUOTATION---

There seems to be a common opinion among some on the boards that a. being repeatedly killed etc MUST be fun for EVERYONE (witness all the blanket statements like yourse here), and that anyone NOT having fun and getting frustrated by the difficulty of Stalker wants to playn in some sort of God-Mode. There aren't just two extremes, using cover etc and standing still firing in the open. I'm all about the cover, me, I love sneaky sneaky silent assassin strike from the shadows gameplay. Its a pity that the stealth implementation in Stalker is so badly done, or I'd not be so frustrated.

---QUOTATION---
Get in the habit of making
Manual Saves often so you can go back to them if things really go bad.

Good Hunting Stalker.

TS
---END QUOTATION---

I'm not criticising your personal preferences for playing, but you have to understand that not everyone is as good at the game as you. And you also must understand that THAT DOESNT MAKE ME A BAD PERSON. I cant use stealth as I would like to because the NPCs have superhuman detection skills, and once theyve seen me the firefights are unenjoyable for me, no matter how 'realistic' they may or may not be.

I AM NOT asking for a Serious Sam experience. I don't want to have an infinite health cheat. I don't want noclipping or all weapons at the start or to be able to carry twice the carrying capacity or never get out of breath. All i want is for the NPCs to be a LITTLE less uber in terms of their detection of me and for me to a LITTLE bit more accurate with my weapons at a distance.

Indeed, if you're skilled enough and have the right equipment, then you can take out anyone with just one hit to head

w3rd!
I wish they (devs) would stop dumbing down games, even on Master SoC is easy if you have only a little skill.
so instead of asking for a mod to make the game easier, how about picking your skills up or go back to CS (counterstrike)
may seem a harsh comment, but meh!
---END QUOTATION---

'Meh' is exactly the reaction I have to Counterstrike, Team Fortress, Frontlines Fuel of War, or any FPS that has no plot. I find multiplayer twitch games to be absolutely mindless borefests.

You advise me to 'pick up' my skills. If there is a mod that allows me to play the game and enjoy it at my current skill level, what harm does it do to you? You still have Master to yawn your way through.

What is up with all these people wanting easier games.

I mean, do you want to run through them in ten minutes or what?

I`ve said it once and I`ll stick by my previous comment "GO PLAY PACMAN"
---END QUOTATION---

No, I don't weant a ten-minute Stalker experience. Which I would have thought was obvious. Your attitude baffles me.

Arguments about whether or not 'easier please' requests make me a pussy aside, can anyone tell me if there actually is a such a mod out there? then i can make up my own mind whether or not to use it.

well I have seen people talking about using a "Trainer" to play SoC to make the game easier, but as I've never used one I'm not sure how they work.

try;
http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/trainers/stalkershadowofchernobyl.shtml
grab the Trainer which relates to the patch version you're using.

I gather that the hit probability thing affects the player as well as the NPCs. Is there a Mod out there anywhere that would lower the accuracy of the NPCs but not the Player? I find that if they are anything further than fairly close, I can empty mgazines at them and the dont drop. The NPC detection is set too high IMO as well.
---END QUOTATION---

The hit probabilty only affects the NPCs, the way Diplomat stated. Folks think otherwise because their perceptions on second and subsequent shots is that they seem to miss. You are most accurate with zoomed single-fire, pausing between shots to permit your aim to resettle (and the NPC hit anim to settle -- there may be a mismatch between hit box and animation, or some other factor).

Again: Your accuracy is not affected by the hit probability settings. See [link]http://www.metacognix.com/stlkrsoc/WhatYouKnowThatAintSo.html[/link]

If you can get the actor.ltx file from a mod or database extractor*, you can change the settings to improve your situation immensely. Change hit_probability_gd_novice in that file to a lower value; 0.20 means 20% accuracy when they shoot at you.

Make your shots more accurate by lowering disp_base from 0.8 to 0.4, and disp_aim from 0.04 to 0.01 or even 0.0001. The first is the Marked One's contribution to firing from the hip, and the second is when you aim (iron sights or scope). This affects only your portion of accuracy; the weapon has its own accuracy component and later weapons are considerably more accurate.

Then look at [actor_immunities_gd_novice]. Lower the damage you receive from bullets: Change fire_wound_immunity from 0.5 (half damage) to something lower like 0.1.

These settings are for Novice or Rookie difficulty.

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
For those of you who want a harder game, in any mod:

Change hit_probability_max_dist in gamedata\config\weapons\weapons.ltx from 10 to 250, and change hit_probability_gd_master in actor.ltx to 1.0. While you are there, make your head and eyes more vulnerable, like that of the NPCs: change bip01_head, eyelid_1, eye_left, eye_right to "2.0, 0, 1.0, 5.0" and jaw_1 to "1.0, 0, 1.0" (without the quotes).

*Don Reba has a database extractor that works with .NET:
[link]www.codeplex.com/SmartModManager/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=10596[/link]
See the associated info there and visit [link]http://www.smart-mod-manager.org/[/link] for info on the Smart Mod Manager if you haven't yet done so.

The Zone Reclamation Project has this file if you can't find it anywhere else. Find it in the Downloads section of [link]www.metacognix.com/stlkrsoc/[/link]. You can copy actor.ltx.original from the gamedata\config\creatures\optional\ subdirectory over to your own STALKER gamedata subdirectory, renaming it to actor.ltx and then edit it as shown above. This file by itself will work with any patch version of the game, I believe.

You might need to create the gamedata subdirectory and modify fsgame.ltx to enable the game to see the changed file; see the mod's installation instructions. The Smart Mod Manager makes this easy and painless if you want to install the whole mod (1.05 Test recommended), but you need to be patched to 1.0004 or later.
