Improving Stalker performance ?

Basically, my problem is that im finding Stalker simply isnt running well enough.
Here is my system:
Q6600, 8800GTS 320, 4GB 800MHz, and etc.
I should be able to run it on max settings at 1680x1050, judging after hearing people on midrange PCs have managed to run this game on max at acceptable framerates at similar resolutions.
So I ask...does anyone have any ways to increase performance ?
Any hotfix, or anything ?

I can run the game on medium/high settings (mostly highish), but to be honest, from the framerate im getting (25fps, approx), im not satisfied.
In addition, I would expect more from my system.
Anyone know anything that may come in useful ?

Cheers in advance.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

One thing you might want to try is to get the Float32 patch.

You can get it here:
[link]http://www.thefloatingpoint.org/main/news.php[/link]

It should improve Stalker's graphic performance.

well the video card you have is not helping you any. you got the 320mb card. that card was never that great to begin with. but if you got abetter video card it would have played better for you.

also do you know what video driver you are running? since i do know for a fact that STALKER is very picky about those. i am a beta test for tweakforce.com, they tweak video driver for performance and quality.

i use STALKER as my test game, and if it runs great. i would run more games and a 3DMARK06 test on it. but 1st and all ways i run STALKER to see if it has high frame rates.

since i run the game with antialiasing and antrisotropic filtering set at 16x and if the main menu has 1100 fps it will play great and with high fps. but if it has less then 300fps i know the game will drag horrible and crash the game and or my pc. since i have seen it over heat my video card because of this.

and all of this is done via the nvidia control panel. that is if you have a nvidia video card. i am not sure of what it is called in the ATI tool.

this is the site i spoke of
http://www.tweakforce.com/index.php
i run the XG174.93 driver right now, since the new 176 and 177 drivers have been bad for me. beside not being able to over clock my 8800gtx at all.

but i would try a different video driver if you have not done so yet. but yes your system should be able to run it better then that. but like i said your video card is what holding back your system.

since you have a new quad core and 4gigs of ram which are the best way to run STALKER. but if i was you the 1st thing i would get is a better card. and since ATI has gotten a price war going on, basically. nvidia newest video cards are getting cheap and they use less power and generate less heat.

wish my 8800gtx could do just that. but mine is like your in a way. it is based on the older die, the G80 . the newer G90 and 92 and now the GTX200 are even better then ever.

i have not herd any one run the new ATI 4850 or 4870 video card on STALKER yet. since they are even cheaper then the nvidias cards are now.

check out that site and look around. there is a lot of good info there. and don't worry i am there. and lol atleast you don't need a 150 post count to get a avatar like here

It used to work fine.....

Hey, Im in a real pickle!
I got my laptop last year; its a dell 1520, with core 2 duo t7500's, 2gig RAM and an 8600gt. Stalker was the first game I bought for it, and it ran quite well with all settings on the standard high and with lighting on full dynamic.
After a difficult reformat I cannot make the game playable if any form of dynamic lighting is enabled (object or full). The game runs to a great standard with these turned on but it just isnt the same lol.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My game dosent run well either using full dynamic lightning etc.

3.4GHZ C2D, 4gb RAM, 8800GT 512mb

Really bad performance aiming around. Turned that off now so i got great fps again.

Its not the most optimized game. So i wouldent jump conclusions about your components. If you dont have problems with other games that is.

I have a similar card and found that I can run the game maxed out using DX9 but if I want to see the DX10 pretties then I have to drop the slide bar back to medium. I then raise the AA slightly and the game runs great.. (on 177.93 beta) . The trouble is that these cards were great when they first came out but are now showing their age (ish..). My next upgrade will be a 260 and hopefully that will last until I can replace the whole system..
Check out Tweakguides for stalker clear sky, soem performance tips are included...
