CO-OP Not giving up til I get an answer Mr. Reba!!

I pulled over 11 pages that the search engine pulled with people asking for Co-op in multiplayer and the only response from you that I saw was
this: GSC knows how important co-op is. At one point even the possibility of tasking a separate team with it was weighted. The fact that GSC is not talking about co-op now implies either that co-op is still unmanageable or that it is being kept as a surprise. In either case, it does not make sense to ask.
So have they even done anything with this? And it does make sense to ask, It may prompt more sales, Co-op is more popular than maybe even you may think. So Sir can you please check on it again and please sir can you respond! Thank you.

Silentwolf

.... I really understand what you are driving at. Stalker: shadow of chernobyl itself wont go coop as it is all about strelok and his experiences. That game will stay as is.

But look at the storyline. strelok had a team ghost and fang were members, perhaps more. So we know of three members on streloks team. Perhaps GSC should consider making a coop sequal/prequel in which you and your friends can play cooperatively and along that storyline of strelok and his team.
or a team of mercs, or some other faction? Maybe as part of the story, you start off as noobs and get to choose a faction at some point, or stay a group of loaners.

I think this angle fits more with the storyline and so is an easier sell to GSC/THQ and plus they can charge us for it..$$ Its just good business. What do you think?

Quite frankly, Co-op is impossible. And none of you are stupid for thinking its not. You see, the A-life engine is just to complicated; The zone doesn't revolve around you. One time, i died, stayed dead for two hours, and watched many things happen: A bunch of bandits walked by. A few military walked by, and shot at a flesh that was eating a dead STALKER. A rookie walked into an anomaly. I heard lots of gunfire from the Aprogram base. And so on and so forth.

It would just be too hard to calculate all the relations, what all the players are doing, and meanwhile trying to function what is possibly over 2 millon A-life events at once. For instance, when you find a dead flesh in cordon, there's a entire story behinde it; from the time it was spawned to the time it dies. And the player very often has nothing to do with this. So, i have to go, but basiclay, it's just way to complicated. I think. Consult a GSC guy for conformation.

? Within your response is the proof that it is possible. read a few times and think on this. if you like

A-Life is an interesting approach to simulating life. Its like the matrix, you know streams of data per unit time, and then when you come in contact.... it renders. Well, A-Life is a program, it does not think or compute it simply compares values and follows the algorithm. There is no thinking. no computer thinks, ever, at all. Humans think. computers compare, and report, nothing more nor can they ever.
for a computer, its question is always, 1 or 0? If 1 follow this line and if 0 follow that line. .....simple. you can write a program which is feed data continiously and this program will simply run the algorithm or path. nothing more no matter how complicated the path.

The game itself does not make decides for the human, only for the npcs it controls. all on prestamped paths.

Still the more factors you write into an algorithm, the more decides branches the ai may take.....

It has been news about this on many diffrent gaming-sites.
There will be NO CO-OP IN EITHER SoC or CS!
Because the AI-engine is too complex for it.

I don't think that's a good answer...

Another link says:

"A cooperative mode is impossible, since Life Simulation would be different at each computer," it stated. "Synchronizing it would be practically not doable."
---END QUOTATION---

Ummm, Why would you ever think of "synchronizing" the life simulation?

You would not want your Life Simulation to run on two seperate computers... You want 1 comptuer to run as the server, and pass the data to all the clients.

Because then the only data that needs to be passed is the same data that every Multi-player game from MMO's to Unreal tournament with BOTS needs to pass.

Who they are, where they are, what they're doing(Actor, Position, and Action)

Now their server may need to be a little more robust. But to say it can't be done... well, when looked at this way:

How is it any different then Unreal Tournaments bots from 1999? The AI is better and there is potentially more actors.

The AI rides on the server and determines actions for the actors: What do I see, where can I move to, what can I interact with? All that doesn't need to be transmitted to the clients. You just send the bare minimum data. Where AM I, What Am I doing.

Now, maybe it would have to work with a "dedicated" server.

But to say it's impossible: is a cop-out. What the Developers SHOULD say: "it is not a feasible with our current development team, resources, and schedules."

If they really wanted it to work out, they could work out a way to do it.

Which is to bad, I would play co-op in a heart beat. This game would be really good Co-op.

They could do what that guy whos modding The Eldar Scrolls IV: Oblivion is doing, render each 'person' as an NPC so to speak. Well thats what his site says.

Sorry if this thread is dead. But you could have set "tables" where events are preplanned. Maybe repatative but 4 or 5 coudl amke it interesting... Plus then jsut send the table of data so the pc knows what to roughly follow, then add the extras.
THAT or

same again distribute the tables of data then make everyone start at once, make sure 1 else can join. So all clients will be kept in time and will start wiht the same data. as events happen they are updated etc.

Itd take some niphty coding however
